Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

Make sure to checkout the official CAG Game Center Exchange Thread. You can post your game center name and see the names of your favorite CAG'rs.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.
Threes has no relation to Sword and Poker. He was just using that comparison in terms of 'addictiveness.'
Read that post wrong, I got all excited too!

I completely agree with Threes, it is one of the games I have enjoyed the most since S&P. Anyone want to add me or post their names, mine is MattNY. I would love to compare scores on there (mine isn't awesome). I am so glad VL recommended it, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered.

Another +1 for Threes.

Also Sonic Racing Transformed for $1 is well worth it. I'm surprised by how well it controls on both iPad and iPhone.

Forgive me if this is something that shouldn't be discussed, BUT just two days ago the GBA4iOS GameBoy Advanced emulator received its much anticipated 2.0 update. Said emulator can be downloaded from the following website, http://www.gba4iosapp.com . Just note that in order for the download to work you need to set the date on your device to something before the 18th of this month. Other than that no jailbreaking of any kind is required.
With the 2.0 update to this emulator it can now play GameBoy and GameBoy Color games in addition to GameBoy Advanced games. Also the emulator is now fully optimized for iPads. It features a cheat system, if you need it, save states and nice iOS 7 inspired UI redesign. It also features dropbox support so as to sync your saved games across multiple devices.

Oh and for those of you who get a little paranoid when you start up the app the first time it will ask if you are sure you want to run this app and it will tell you it is by something Chinese, well not only is the developers behind this emulator on the up and up but multiple people on different websites verified there is no funny business going on behind the scenes with this emulator so you need no worry.

I won't tell you where to get it as doing so violates the rules but with this emulator you can play Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/etc. on your iPhone/iPod/iPad.

Oh and one last thing I should mention is that the 2.0 update requires you to be on iOS7 in order to install it.

Looks like Palm Kindgoms has a $10 "all maps" IAP. How's the game without it?

Most the maps seem to be unlocked too me

There are a shit ton of maps included and only two 99 cent IAP maps that I can see

Very cool game with a lot of content

Edit: Seems like the dev released all the IAP maps for free in an update last June and just added two more maps for purchase in December

So don't let the IAP list scare you away, its incorrect and this game has a ton of content

Question about Dungelot 2. My meat/energy/stamina only increases when I open the app. I should be able to start the app in the morning and have 12 meat/energy/stamina since it's been building up over night. Instead, it only adds one. I've had to log in every half hour to keep accumulating more meat/energy/stamina. I got to the second dungeon, uninstalled and reinstalled, hoping to fix it. No luck.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Holy Shaq freaking Fu Thanks for this! Was not aware of this app and held off on updating to ios7 forever. Now all my apps are squeeky clean and fast, my phone has lots of free space, and I have all my favorite gba's loaded up! GBA4ios downloading function works fantastic!

How is this even possible? I didn't think Installing an app not via the app store was even possible.

It is as long as they arent signed.  You can install apps via ifunbox (and probably other iOS tools) as long as they are unsigned versions. Which makes me really wish more emulator and homebrew people would release the unsigned versions so you could do it yourself like this

-edit

Looks like there are :)

So slightly off topic but does anyone else browse CAG on their iPhone and when doing so randomly have it take them to an app in the appstore without having clicked on an ad or anything?  It's happened multiple times and taken me to different games each time but I can only recall it happening while browsing CAG.  Before anyone asks no I wasn't browsing this thread and accidentally followed a link either.

Me as well. Same app every time: Game of War Fire Age.

No iPhone, but browse on an iPad, Galaxy Tab 3 and HTC One and that has never happened to me.

Further proof that iPhones suk.

Autumn Dynasty is free :

http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/id816164622?mt=8

servicable RTS with a nice art style. single player and multiplayer.

this just went to being self-published by the dev, so you should download even if you already own it for future support for the title.
Snagged this, I don't have any RTS on my phone..will be worth giving it a shot on MP with some friends.

Thanks, Ive been waiting a long time for this one to drop

On the Strategy front it looks like Palm Heroes 2 deluxe went Free as well. Seems like a very nice HOMM clone

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id452997018?mt=8

Note: All IAP maps were made free in a previous update
fuck, I missed this. Looks pretty good. I will wait for it to go free again, or at least go down to $2 or less.

Weird. I haven't had that happen and I use CAG on my iPhone several times a day.

So do I and it's only been a few times but enough to establish the pattern and get me to notice it.

I get taken to the App Store automatically (and annoyingly) while browsing other sites as well. But now that I think about it, they may also be forums. And the game is usually Candy Crush.... Ick.

I wanted to say thanks for the GBA4ios recommendation! I am finally getting to play through the English translated version of Mother 3 and it is awesome!

Epoch 2 in all its cover-based third-person robo-shooting glory, is down to $0.99.

Shadow Blade, the good looking retro-game ninja title, is $0.99 for the first time in its short life.

Haven't played either one, so feel free to chime in!
