Are game discs unqiue, or are they all copies?

RESmonkey

CAGiversary!
I just bought a game from craigslist. Very cheap, and it was new/sealed. I'm having thoughts that it was stolen now. Should I even put it in my Xbox, or would they be able to trace my disc (assuming it's stolen)?
So they won't be able to trace my console?
who is "they"? No, they won't be able to trace anything. If it's a retail copy that was stolen, they can't do anything. There is no tracking device or button they press to remotely disable the game or anything like that.

I just wanted to make sure there were no 'unique ids' on discs. Like, if a stolen game was reported, ... I'm just overthinking it.

Oh, well. Thanks
really? is that so...

They are all copies made on special format dual-layer DVD's
They have a special encryption code thing but I don't believe it's unique, its the same for all games.
However if its a burned game(which I doubt because it was factory sealed) microsoft can track that you are playing burned games on a Modded xbox, and your 360 is permanantly banned from xbox live:)

However, there is a law (I'm sure the armchair lawers can chime in) that you could face the MAN if you knowningly purchased stolen equipment.

Now would a DA actually waste his time to try to prove that you knew this or not on a petty item?

More importantly, the MAN would have to prove that the game in question was actually stolen. Since the thief apparently wasn't caught in the act (unless you picked the game up from a prison), that would probably be a nearly impossible task.

OP: You shouldn't have bought the game if you thought it might be stolen when you made the purchase, but if you weren't tipped off to that fact until after you received the game, oh well. Either way, there's nothing you can do about it now. Don't worry about it.

If it was stolen, it could be confiscated if the person was arrested and gave the police your address. But other than that...

keep the game, be happy you got it at a low price. If this feels imoral to you I highly suggest you not buy from ebay or craigslist.

Did he write "STOLEN" on the box or something?
Or leave a letter he hand wrote and notorized that he had acquired such merchandise illegally? I bet he didn't :D
By "bought from craigslist," OP, do you mean "bought from Wal-Mart for $0.00 when the clerk forgot to lock the cabinet?"
Hmmm. Good question.

OP, is the game in question in fact Grand Theft Auto 3?

X360 games are all the same disc, no unique IDs like PS2 (DNAS ID) games.

So you gave into temptation and swiped that $5 copy of Barbie's Horse Adventure from the bargin bin at Wal-Mart, eh? It's ok. We've all thought about it. I mean, it looks so cool and it is backwards compatible after all. No one is going to judge you and nobody can track you. Just put that bad boy into your system and play!
