Back to the "Futurama"?

Well, I'm a big fan of Futurama, but with the way the Simpsons has been going lately, I'm scared of new episodes.

Ditto, watched about 5 of the new Simpson episodes this year, can't remember laughing once.

If they do this, they better do it right and not put it in a shitty time slot so it can get pre-empted by football games. I am guessing the time slot would probably be 7:30 CST and they would either move or cancel The War at Home. Then they would have their "Animation Domination" block.

I am bit irritated that Comedy Central snapped up the Futurama rights after Cartoon Network brought the attention to the show.

As long as they continue with the same type of humor as before, they cant lose. I hope they dont turn it into Simpsons In Space.....

"As usual! Woo!"
Best news I've heard all year!

The worst episode of Futurama is better than 90% of the dreck on TV.
Agreed!!!!!!!! This is AWESOME NEWS! Hurray. Can't wait. We can only wish that they bring it back and cancel that horrible show that breaks up the momentum on Sunday The War at Home. Also, I can't believe all of this nagging about The Simpsons and how bad its been. Any Simpsons episode is thousands of times better than most of what Fox puts on and on most other stations. Would you guys rather they bring back The Simple Life and stuck that on in its place? Simpsons gives me regular laughs and though a few seasons back they hit a snag and it wasn't as funny as it was when the show peaked in the 5-10 seasons, but last season was really the first season I felt that brought the show back to its glory days. Maybe all you guys need is a break from the Simpsons to meander through what is on television now days and then you'll come back. They always come back.

When did CC pick up Futurama reruns from Cartoon Network? Haven't heard of this? Gotta link maybe?
here is a link to the variety article about futurama on comedy central

edit* after reading the variety article, they call Bender a "porn addicted crackhead".
i must have missed that episode...
That sucks, I loved being able to watch all my favorite animated shows on one channel in a 3-4 hour block. :whistle2:(

As for Bender as a crackhead, they could be refering to his addiction with jacking on. Otherwise, he's more of an alcoholic than a crackhead.

I'd be more concerned of it turning out like the new episodes of Family guy, the Simpson's problem is simply its length as a show any show that lasts that long is bound to become repetitive and generic.

QFT. I'd take an old episode of Family Guy I've seen 3 times over a new one any day.

I know this might piss a few people off in this thread but I really don't see how Futurama is gonna make it a second time around. Sure its seen popularity after its cancellation but not nearly as much as Family Guy did and at this point Family Guy is pulling in about average ratings.

There's still two years 'till it makes the switch. At that point, you'll probably be tired of constantly watching the same damn reruns and it won't matter anymore.

I can watch the invasion from the planet Nintendu 64 any time

Weird. Been watching those episodes for 6 years and I haven't gotten tired yet, so I doubt two more will do anything. :)

I predicted this on a "Predict events in 2006" type thread here at CAG. ;)
I just hope the new episodes are as good as the old. I hate the new Family Guy episodes. Let's just hope that if this goes through, they get back most of the old writters.
You think the execs would learn not to cancel shows that can make them some serious money down the road, but I don't think those morons have figured it out yet.

I know what you mean, I have the entire series on dvd, yet I'll still end up catching an episode or two a week on Cartoon Network at night before I go to sleep.

Finally. FOX brings back the cartoon that was actually funny.

I don't believe that Futurama has the same writers as the Simpsons. On top of which, the Simpsons' decline can be attributed, somewhat, to Groening's absence from the show (when he switched over to Futurama).

Futurama is, by far, one of the BEST cartoons around. They didn't get extremely old and tiring like Family Guy would. Their jokes were quite refreshing and original.

In addition, it's the future, they can quite literally do ANYTHING, from meeting God (or at least meeting a computer programmed to believe it is God), to re-discovering the wheel, to doing the nasty in the pasty.

from what understood from gotfuturama.com from a few months ago, the plan was to create a straight-to-DVD movie. if that went well they would make another [ movie ]. and if that went well they would create new episodes and put them straight-to-DVD.

im glad there working on it trying to put this 2geather even if there not as good it would be great for them to try.

The simpsons should let go...the problem is that they have changed writers over the years and the ones they have now are garbage. Im not a writer and I can think of endless funny homer simpson shows but for some reason they cannot we have to settle for 'marge joining red hat gangs' .

They should hire the old simpson writing team to do a simpsons movie and whore it out in about 3 sequels then nomore simpsons ever they should cancel the show.

Yeah, that's the reason that they mentioned in the commentary of the first season. Since it's in the future, they could mold it the universe the way that they wanted.

They should make an episode where a tv show they love got cancelled in the past, but then the DVDs got released, and everyone bought them, and then the show got back on the air.

Oh, and Bender should say more funny things.

Uh huh.

Family Guy began its second run with a crack at Fox and all of the shows they'd cancelled while Family Guy was off the air.

I'm not sure if Futurama would take that route because the joke's been done now, but they have taken shots at Fox before. Who knows what we'll get? :D

Yea, I remember that. I couldn't believe how quickly shows die and I didn't even notice.

They could take it a step further and advertise themselves as the show getting cancelled, but that might make it a bit too postmodern for anyone's taste.
