Bay Area: Where can I get rid of old electronics/broken computer equipment?

Xevious

CAGiversary!
I know you can't dump them in the trash; you're supposed to go to somewhere where the parts can be recycled. I just don't know where...

Can someone let me know?

Try that site. It uses your zipcode to list all the recycling centers in your area. Sometimes near black friday some of the major electonics stores wil have like recycling day specials where they take in all your electronics stuff.
Awesome! Thanks!

a few months ago they were taking any electronic waste (aside from microwave). Got rid of like 3 car full of stuff.

Aside from it not being able to breakdown over time like normal trash, some of it has toxic chemicals that could leak and end up poisoning ground water etc..

I was eating lunch or dinner somewhere the other day, and saw one of these trucks! I needed to get rid of my old fence, so that's why I remembered.
They came to my work when we were getting new office chairs, desks, etc. I think they charge you to come pick up your junk. I'd rather donate than pay.

I recently recycled my old computer at Green Citizen in Los Altos (they also have a location in SF) and I highly recommend it.

It 's really easy to drop off (they have these carts you can take to your car and load up all your junk on it). They do charge you, but it is pretty minimal. It only cost $20 for my old computer complete with a printer and speaker system. Monitors are free for CA residents. You can feel good dropping your computer off with them because they truly recycle 100% of your computer. Unfortunately a lot of those free recycling places just ship them off to 3rd world countries where they poison the ground water there.

There are so much electronic crap in the bayarea, some of place (like GoodWill) will only take good, resellable items. A few years back, we took an old dot matrix printer in, and was rejected.
