That's where our numbers differ. Californians don't pay tax on digital. So I'm saving $3.20 on tax there.

Also, I'm getting back the extra $5 from Best Buy because I ordered before that promo date ($15 in certs total) so it's about the same.
There's still no 12% figure anywhere in the math.

Getting the $5 extra back is also not relevant. It doesn't come off the purchase price.

No Dark Souls III? :(
Yeah it sucks, there's still a small chance for a week of release gift card promo though. Thankfully I was able to get in on the B2G1 glitch so I have 2 Dark Souls III and MLB the Show 16 pre-ordered for $104 total. I figured I can easily offload the extra DS III and MLB for a good chunk back.

To be honest, how much profit are they really making off the $10 certificate promo? Yes, they boost sales numbers, but they are only making $38 on a new $60 product. And then when a lot of those sales are then traded back in for $35-40, they're basically renting new games for free (or in some cases, paying out money) to a lot of customers.

I love the $10 certificates but I don't think they're good business. And I know a lot of ppl are down on GCU, but I still like their 20% over Amazon's (no time restrictions - all games is huge for me) and their rewards program really adds to the savings if you buy and sell all your games there. Not to mention its $30 for 2-years while Prime is $200 for 2-years.
You did skip the steps of selling GCU for $30 and reselling that used game for $40-50, though.

$88 vs $80 I get it - I broke down and preordered the gold. Thanks for walking me through it CAGs.

I ordered the regular edition despite knowing that the season pass would be $8 cheaper.  I wanted to wait and see if the season pass will even be worth it and see how the community evolves.  I've bought a few season passes that I never played after, so I figure I'd rather play it safe and pay more if I end up actually playing the game..

Or just wait for a PSN sale like I plan on doing if I want it.

On a semi related note, I got a email from Gamestop saying you receive 1000 bonus points for preordering and purchasing a game within 7 days. Isn't 1000 points there basically $1?

You didn't spend $3,500 last year? Are you going to be elite for 2016.
Nope. Even with trade-ins, I don't think I broke $1,000. I haven't spent cash at a Best Buy for at least 3 years, so trades were my main source of generating points thanks to purchases made with GCs not counting.

I suppose Best Buy could always surprise me with another year of Elite+, but I don't know if I'll even be plain Elite at this point.

True, but PSN sale would likely be around the second DLC if they had it. If I'm playing it and enjoying it, then I'll probably grab the season pass when the first DLC drops.
It's so risky to buy these passes so early. Look at Ubi's last couple. Like others have mentioned fc4 only had one good one. I kept my vanilla preorder as well. Division could have those weekly events for pass holders. That would force me to jump in.

They already said that this is true, though maybe not necessarily weekly. From official website:

"Season Pass owners also receive a set of exclusive outfits and weapon skins, as well as access to special monthly benefits including exclusive content drops and special events."

i'm pretty sure division will be deader than destiny a month or two in so not sure why anyone would be buying gold/season pass.  there really isn't anything to do after 30-40 hours except gank other players in the dark zone.

That's my problem, if I'm out of GC money, I'll spend cash for a good deal.

If the division gets a decent community like destiny does then the division will be fine. They have a plan laid out with content for a while. I can still get full games in destiny easily and I'm sure the same will be for the division

Decent community like Destiny? That place is a cesspool of self-loathing grinders. Kind of scary actually. The Division at least looks like it will be a full game at launch with plenty to keep coming back to. And as long as their laid out plan for the future consists of more than "Let's troll the players as hard as we can and charge them for it" then they'll probably be just fine.

Still, I'm of the opinion the bar was set pretty high by Borderlands 2 for 4-op games and certainly would love to see it get beat. Not sure if The Division gets there or not based on what I've seen. I'm skeptical but hopeful.

Destiny is definitely a grindy game, but I do feel like it has a decent community, when I still played about a month ago there were still tons of people around and everyone was pretty cool for the most part and that's a community with a game where the devs have given no plan, no information and when they do give information it's usually wrong and makes The game have more problems, with that said I feel Ubisoft can look at them and see what NOT to do and they've already done that by showing us a steady plan with their stream of content. The division will be a better game (hopefully), and as such will thrive with an active community aslong as Ubisoft throws in the support

Oh, well in-game yeah most everyone seems to be pretty cool. Do NOT go to the Bungie forums though. Holy friggin' hell.

Really? I didn't like BL2. I liked the first, but the playable characters in the second game just sucked. Then The Pre-Sequel was a woeful turd.

A good way to maintain elite status is to buy your yearly smartphone refresh there.  I usually sell me and my wife's iphone for almost retail price right before they announce the new one then preorder the new one at Best Buy, that puts me in elite status with very little out of pocket funds, then all other purchases put me into elite plus.

That said I rarely buy games at release, this $10 bonus program was the only reason I did.  So if the program is gone, as it appears to be, it's going to change my game buying habits pretty drastically..  will likely wait for deal of the day or holiday sales coupled with the 20% GCU and Gamefly those I'm not interested in owning.  For instance I came to the thread to see if Far Cry Primal was being offered, which would have been an instant purchase, sadly it's not so I will likely rent it instead.

I'll preorder from Amazon now if they don't do the $10 certs. Would rather have it delivered to my house on release day then drive to Best Buy to pick it up.

Far Cry Primal is really the first AAA game I am not preordering in a long time, I think I bought all of em last year except R6 (hated beta).  But at this point I have a bunch of REALLY good games on backlog (playing Witcher 3 and Fallout 4 right now) and just about every game last year went through the same pattern - release at MSRP, drop to $40 a month later, multiple $40 price sale every few weeks and sometimes that included the season pass / gold - especially for Ubi/Square games.

So yeah, doesn't really make sense to buy Far Cry Primal now when I'm 99% sure I'll be able to get the gold version for $40-45 in 2-3 months, and the TIVs drop to $30 within 2 weeks now anyways.

If you order enough in advance (more than a week early) you should always get free release day shipping from Best Buy.

I don't know the exact cut off point, but while Street Fighter isn't free release day shipping anymore, Far Cry Primal still is.

Any clue on if BB will be having the Windows 10 copy of Quantum Break as a pre order bonus for the X1 version?
I'm assuming they will, but do know this offer is for the digital version of Quantum Break (which Best Buy sells).

http://www.quantumbreak.com/windows10/
The only digital version of QB that qualifies for the pre-order bonus of the Win10 version is the one you buy through the Xbox store (AKA, on the console). If you want to give Best Buy your money to pre-order this, you'll need to buy Xbox cash from them to pre-order it on the console.

EDIT: I'm re-reading the text on this, and I am pretty sure I'm wrong but now I don't know what's up. :)

What I read implied that purchases of the digital version at qualifying retailers counted also. (so buying a code card at BB or Walmart would count)

Where are you seeing this?
1. log in to your bestbuy.com account

2. click "overview" under "my rewards" in the light blue menu bar

3. on the right side there is a meter showing your progress towards elite status

4. There is also a chart at the bottom of this webpage that shows your Elite status

mine has the elite plus logo (indicating current elite status) and says "Enjoy another year of Elite Plus status by spending $3,500 in 2016"

I think that means you won't be E+ next year...

The current year of Elite/Elite+ ends on 2/29.

That doesn't mean that you get another year of it.

question, anyone was able to pre-order hitman from BB with paying just $5 deposit. For some weird reason, they couldn't do it at my local store.

I didn't think there was a disc version of Hitman available yet. I believe it's digital only until all content is released then a disc version will be released later this year, most likely around Fall/Holiday. They most likely haven't added the retail version yet, so it doesn't cause confusion with different release dates.

yes, I did. They said only digital copy is showing up on the computer, which doesn't make sense to me
