CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.
Yep, got there this morning. That's where I found that basket hidden on the bongos.
Did you find anything there? They showed me a list of what they had in stock for the sale and the only interesting title I saw was 3 copies of FF: Dawn of Souls; but they were gone by the time I got there.
Just wondering, does it mean they have copies if a game shows up on the store availability function on the Best Buy site?
I don't think it's very accurate. For instance, I looked up Sega Superstars, and it said neither of the Best Buys near me had it. But when I went and looked, both stores had several copies.
Anybody looking for Dawn of Souls? BB.com is still showing my local store having it in stock, and I have to run up there tomorrow morning.
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! MEMEME!

Man, I have to have this game to play in my hour and a half breaks at school! One would think it would be wise to study, but not me!

So I went to best buy and I didn't see any of these games, didn't notice a single one and this at lunch (like 12:30) I mean someone could've stormed through already, but my guess was they were pulled from the shelves or something. I asked the employee there and just got a blank stare for an answer on where all the clearence games were.
I did see about 10 Taiko sets for $20. Nope PS2 though so I passed.
All this talk about Taiko makes me want to go back to Best Buy and buy one...or two! Grrr. ^_^

Sale was mediocre at best for those lucky individuals that got in on it, otherwise it flat out sucked. Simple as that. Didn't get anything myself.
Wow! Advance Wars for $.99?! You got fucking lucky there, man!
umm....no, not lucky, just stupid. It was Future Tactics, sorry. I swear, those two games have the same font/design for the title, so I always get them mixed up.

I keep seeing Bloodrayne 2 lumped here with other games that aren't worth buying. Is it that bad?
i went to best buy earlier today (springfield, va) and it was already cleaned out. Either the games that they were trying to clearance had already been sold at regular price or some sneaky CAG/FW/other person beat me to the games. i just hope it wasn't a FW'er...
Dammit - I was going to go there first thing in the AM (Tues). Usually the Best Buy's around DC are MUCH better than the ones in Oregon. I've found much more there than at home. Oh well, I'll go anyway - maybe they have some penny guides.

Well..anyone from East County San Diego should know that the local Best Buy basically has nothing. I went today around 2:00 P.M and all I found was 1 copy of Magic the Gathering (Which kind of made me happy) 1 copy of Narc and 1 copy of that Nam '67 game. So I picked up the last gathering and headed out...

However, I figured people would go ballistic on the clearence deal so I bought: 1 MK Deception Kollectors Edition, 1 Mech Assault 2, and 1 Pinball Hall O Fame online last night. $28 SHIPPED. Not to bad overall...

Thanks for the info..fellas, I love crazy clearence madness. :D

I went to 3 BB's in the Baltimore area on Monday over lunch and found 1 copy of Mr Driller: Drill Spirits. This is pretty similar to what happened last year when Best Buy blew out a bunch of stuff for $5; either they let their employees get all of the good stuff or they do an amazing job of controlling out of date inventory.
i'm going to go try price match at CC today...
doesnt the store you are trying to price match have to have the game in stock for the other store to price match it? that always seems the case...

as always, everrything depends with who you're dealing with (store and employee) when it comes to any type of store policy

I went in hopeing to pick up a few games. Namely Y's, Risk, MegaMan X Command Mission, Final Fantasy 1/2, and they EyeToy. My store didn't have any of them and I did not bring a list so I am not sure if any others were in the sale.

They did have the EyeToy, but for some reason it is not marked down in the stores, just online.

This was the Inver Grove Heights, MN store btw.
I wanted to get Harvest Moon - but it wasn't marked down - after looking at the bestbuy website I found out that only the Player's Choice version was marked down - all the back of the cases had a best buy yellow sticker barcode over the barcode of the original game. I wanted to peel the sticker off, but there were employees all around me since there wasn't anyone in the store.
That might have been 'Another Wonderful...', this is a different title.

Two versions of the Eye Toy - see earlier post.

last time I price matched GTA:SA...they saw the price on the website and let me price match..never called the local Best Buy to see if it was in stock
Well, four of the six items I ordered shipped:

Tak 2: Staff Of Dreams (Xbox)
Godzilla: Save The Earth (Xbox)
Astro Boy: Omega Factor (GBA)
The Incredibles (Xbox)

Two items are now backordered:
Growlanser: Generations (PS2)
Ys: The Ark of Nephistism (PS2)

So, now BB has to pony up the difference on the first four, $10 + $30 + $10 + $10 + tax. That's a phone call for tomorrow.

Last two, have to wait until they ship, and if BB follows past experience, I'm not getting Ys or Growlanser. Which chaps my ass a bit, since I ordered them around 2-3PM CT on Sunday, same with the other items. That's also on the phone call for tomorrow, to find out the ETA on those two games. Probably be never, knowing BB.
thats werid. i ordered Grow and Ys around 5pm central and both of them shipped, i wonder why yours went backordered .. also check your order status they said the discount comes off automatic so you might not have to call...
Sale was mediocre at best for those lucky individuals that got in on it, otherwise it flat out sucked. Simple as that. Didn't get anything myself.
Yet we are all so poised (and desperate) for a good clearance sale that we jump into action for almost nothing.

If I can get them to adjust my web order (they said they only match prices for instock items on the phone! but they might do it anyway) . . . then I will have basically gotten the games I wanted for the prices I wanted except in 2 cases.

Mr. Driller
Astro Boy
Otogi 2 (all OK at $10)

SH4 $5!

Paid $10 online when I thought they'd be $5 for:
Crash Twinsanity
Sypro

I'll likely eat the extra $5 on those 2 . . . but not happily

The inaccuracy of the prices on the list made this sale a drag

If anyone got Growlanser, Paper Mario, Silent Hill 4 (Xbox), Final Fantasy Origins, VIII, or Anthology, I will pay you a dollar or something for the receipt. PM me.

My total haul from the sale...
GTA GBA 10 bucks
Resident Evil OB $5 (w PS2 coupon)
Ghost Recon $5 (w coupon)
Furute Tactics .99

Still have an extra Baten Kaitos if anyone has a Growlanser, y's, or FF DOS to trade

Really cool and all, but the local store didn't honor the prices. $5.00 more than each price listed...so, it wasn't a bust, but not the find I was hoping for!

Yippie...found Future Tactics and Yager for $1 a piece.

I had them scan in a few old, old titles that really should be $1 like Mat Hoffman BMX 2 and NBA Live 2002 for the Xbox but they were $10. Not that I'm crazy about any of those games but how can you turn down a $1 game.

All in all, I don't like Best Buy and Circuit City clearancing their games at $9.99. Sadly they are learning that gamers are just as willing to pay $10 instead of $5. I'm hoping the TRU clearance stays cool.

Local Seattle store in Northgate is sort of honoring prices.

Two of us got the prices on this list because we talked to one of the sales clerks, she even showed us a a printout from her computer station that all the prices matched up. BUT they DO NOT have the games priced on the shelves (with the exception of a few like Catwoman). Talking to the clerk later she said they would NOT be honoring the prices after us because the list here does not come from the official Best Buy site. Which is weird since they have essentially the same price list in their computer.

Also their game selection is pretty much picked clean of the games on this list. You'll be extremely lucky to find any of these.

I take it the cagers that raided fairlakes, sterling and manassas are keeping there mouth shut on this one huh?

circuit citys are picked clean of these games mostly cause some of them were the old clearance type games they had for 2 dollars.

I tryed to pricematch at circuit city with no luck they called bestbuy and bestbuy lied and told them its an online only sale i bet it was even the same best buy that told me the prices were a price mistake and they couldnt sell them to me eariler in the day.

I hate best buy.

If you go online it was $5 higher as well. Someone got the prices wrong on some of the games. But $9.99 for most of those games was still a deal.

Why would you EVER show a CAG list to an employee? Are you trying to get them to crack down on their employees?
is that Taiko Drum master thingy worth $20?
I don't think so, its a fine novelty product but I like the Donkey Konga set the novelty wears pretty thin. In my mind 10-15 would be about the limit for me.

I've only been to the three around my house (there's four but I don't want to pay for parking at the Pentagon one). All three: Potomac Yards, Springfield and Bailey's X-Roads are wiped out. I managed to snag a Tak 2 for XB $10, an SRS for $10, there's plenty of Cabela for $10 (I passed on that). All the cheaper games are nowhere to be seen.

Edit: for anyone in the area who wants to PM Paper Mario (or at least try) at CC, the CC at Bailey's X-Roads has over 10 copies of Paper Mario for GC (but I have found that the employees there are asses).

Good morning CAG's FIRST POST!

Thanks to your wonderful posts, I picked up Paper Mario for 9.99 at the above mentioned best buy.

There is 1 copy left (I would have grabbed it for you guys, but I am broke, shouldnt have even bought the one for me, but come one, cant pass that deal up).

Anyway.

THANKS OP!

and good luck

PS.

I did not see much of any of the other 'discount' games.

i think NBA live 2 for 4.99 or something useless like that. Only checked GC, DS.

--JErky666

Do PS1 games ship from a separate warehouse or something? Because the PS1 game I ordered shipped around 5PM yesterday. But the four Xbox games I ordered are still InProcess. I don't think they will all end up backordered, because I ordered Mechassault 2 and it is still in stock on the website a day later.

I was able to find and pick up in the 2 BB in WDSM, IA

Catwoman for .99 and the employee says to me " this must suck if its .99"
Otogi 2 9.99
Bloodrayne 2 xbx 9.99

Most of the games were in stock even though the online inventory was wrong. all prices were clearly marked also. and for clearance GBA games they were on a cart in the middle of the isle.

I have seen a couple of posts that mention Max Payne 2, Strike Force Bowling, Bad Boys being $4.99. Is this true? If so, the PS2 versions would be free after the McD coupon. The web site has them listed at 9.99

If anybody has any of the following games from the sale they are willing to part with please PM me:

CUB - Lord of the Rings: The Third Age $4.99
GBA - Excitebike Classic $.99
GBA - Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past $9.99
GBA - Final Fantasy I&II: Dawn of Souls $9.99

Thanks in advance.

I have been following this thread since it started, and first off, thanks to the OP for posting this.

I went to the Riverside, CA, Best Buy last night after work (around 6:45) and they had next to nothing. Raekwon the Chef probably cleaned them out, heh. I did manage to snag the last copy of Final fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, which was cool because I have gotten hardcore into RPGs over the last 2 years but have never played a FF game. I planned to get that game when I was going to buy a GBA a year ago, and now I have a DS so I can have some RPG goodness on the go.
I know you guys are all CAG fanatics - who isn't - , but am I the only one out there who's perfectly happy with a $10 good game? I picked up online or in stores today Otogi 2, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Bard's Tale, MechAssault 2, Ys, Midway Arcade Treasure 2, Spyro: Hero's Tail, Incredibles, Simpsons Road Rage, Magic: the Gathering Battlegrounds, Yager, and Star Wars Starfighter. A decent game selection is reduced to only $10 each and below and it seems like everyone's whining that it's not cheap enough for them. Sure, the news that most of the supposed $4.99 games were really $9.99 was disappointing, but most of the games on most gaming sites including EB for $10 and below are mostly used games, not brand new. For brand new, it's not bad at all. The only problem is that there's not enough games to go around for everyone either online or in stores.
Only thing for me with the $5 vs. $10 debate is, for $5 I'll buy practically anything that looks halfway decent. But for $10, I need to know something about it or have some assurance I'll like it. Two Towers I passed on (actually bought Sunday then returned when it wasn't $5) because I figure if I'm going to spend $10 on a LOTR game, I'm better off with a used Return of the King from EB, where I can also get Two Towers for $6. Probably going to end up keeping NBA Street 2 for $10 just cause I have a PG rebate taking it down to $5. So while $10 for a good game is a great deal, if I don't know a game is good... too much.

And yes, I probably will regret returning Two Towers, but since I bought the last copy at my local store and returned it to one of the farther ones, little chance of me having the desire to pick it up again.

Edit: And thank God there were only a hundred new posts in this thread to skim through over the last ten hours. I would have given up if yesterday's rate had continued.
you would've bought two towers for $5, not $10...but you would drive around for $25 and not come home with anything
Well, I did get a pennied out phantasy star III card revolution guide, so I did come home with something ;). Then again, it's not like I expected to come home with nothing.

Ok,
here's the lowdown on my trip:
Went to the Best Buy in DC (Tenleytown) around 8pm-ish, list in hand.
Went right to the GBA section, hoping to pick up FF I&II, Excitebike, Golden Nugget, Legend of Zelda and the Urbz. Found none of them.
Went to the GC section. Barely anything was there..even the normally priced games (is GC dead?). Saw Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life, picked it up because I thought it was the first one..realized my mistake and decided to price check on it anyway.
On to the ps2 section..don't even ask. The even sold out of Future Tactics. FUTURE TACTICS, for chrissakes.
Found a copy of Dynasty Warriors 4 (the last one).
After the buzzkill, decided to pick up Dynasty Warriors 4, World Championship Poker and Harvey Moon: AWL (listed at 29.99)
On may way to register, found a display cart that I'd totally missed.
On there were tons of copies of Ps2: Max Payne 2 (5.00), Backyard Wrestling 2 (5.00), Rocky (I forget), and Deus Ex for Xbox. Decided to pick up BW2.
Ask the cashier to do price checks.
Dynasty Warriors 4 came out to 19.99, so I nixed that.
World Championship Poker came to 9.99, instead of 4.99 (orginaly 19.99), which I picked up.
To my joy, Harvest Moon: AWL, rang up to 9.99. Funny thing is..it said Wave Race on the display..ha ha.
Plus, BW2, w/ the PS2 coupon..which supposedly should have been free. However, I was looking at the reciept this morning and I think something went wrong.
From what I remember, here's what was left:
GC:
Goldeneye
Harvest Moon: AWL
Teemage Mutant Ninja Turtles

GBA:
Big Game hunter
Tarzan
Finding Nemo
Kim Possible 2
Pro Fishing
Texas Hold 'em
Ty the tasmanian tiger 2
World Championship Poker

Ps2
Deer Hunt
Dynasty Warriors 4 (1 copy no discount)
Eye Toy
freakstyle
Jame Bond 007
MTX Motertrax
Namco Museum
Resident Evil Outbreak (quite a few copies)
Rocky
The Polar Express
Top Gun

Let me know if I can be of service. I'll warn you though...I most likely won't be able to go back until Wed.

Btw, if anybody picked up any extra copies of Excitebike and the Urbz for GBA, please let me know. Thanks!
Wrong game entirely. Harverst Moon Another Wonderful Life is not part of the sale. It has a sticker over the UPC because the game got misprinted and has the barcode for WaveRace on there. Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life is however part of the sale and it doesn't matter if you find it PC or non-PC. You just tried to get the wrong game, that's all.
