This will be my third time buying this game so hopefully that will be the charm to me finishing it. I already have the Ultimate Edition content on my system from a previous purchase so that's even better I guess, although I do despise that Platinum Hits artwork. :)

i do not know if this has been answered before, but can you just go into the store and get this for 4.99 or do you have to do the in store pick up to have the price honored?

I've read people having problems with their Used Games prices not matching up with their website so I'd recommend doing in store pick up. Of course you can always price match their website while at their B&M locations if you want to avoid paying for it in advance.

Yup, BC2 >>> BF3.

I'm mostly a PC gamer when it comes to FPS's, but I own Bad Company 2 for PS3 since I used to play it with buddies and it was just as fun.

What's better is you don't need an "online pass" with this, the game came with a VIP Code which allowed you to unlock extra maps but that's it.

Just a few moments ago I pulled the trigger on Half.com and bought the Ultimate edition for PS3 since I kinda wanted to try out Onslaught mode.

Good deal! Me and a buddy got in on this deal but Ouch at the 1752 mb update. I want to play it now, not in 2 hours....

Bad Company 2, IMO, was a much better all around package than Battlefield 3. It was one of the first games since the original SOCOM on PS1 that I really felt addicted to the MP. Battlefield 3 on the other hand was the first game I have traded in in over a year. Again im just one person, but just reinforcing the idea that at $5 this is a STEAL!

I've been playing Battle Field 3 since last Thanksgiving, so that's about 6 months now, and I will continue to play it for along time to come. I'm not alone in this. Met tons of gamers online who feel the same, and that is not taking into account of all the new DLC packs that are coming out soon for the game. Different strokes for different folks.
Damn. My store only had 360 copies.
Did you check in the sub-$20/greatest hits area? I only saw one copy for PS3 on the shelf until I went around to the other side and found about half a dozen copies. Almost two dozen left for x360 though.
Thanks OP. Got one for store pickup. How long do you guys think the servers will be up for this game?
I don't see them going down anytime soon.

Sweet i just picked it up with the 8 dollars i had left on my giftcard, figured it would be a better deal than AC revelations for 10 bucks. To bad i feel so bad lately, these shooting games online are bad for my health, i haven't really been able to play bf3 much the last few months with my elevated blood pressure. I'm 1 hour away from 600 hours in bf3 but i don't like having stage 3 hypertension and a pulse of over 125.

Crap I checked the thread late today! I 'll have to visit the store later tonight.

Wait, no 360 version online and it's for the gimped/junk edition, not the ultimate?

Just picked up my PS3 copy in red greatest hit case.

Also picked up Oblivion 5th Anniversary Edition for PC (steelbook case). It was on clearance at 60% off $29.00, ends up being $12 +tax.

1752mb update? Since when? When I played this game originally there was a decent sized update to it, but that one makes the one I downloaded seem like nothing by comparison.

Too bad I already cracked open my copy I got from the last B2G1 at BB or I'd try going in store to swap it out for something. I hate these huge updates.
Majority of the patch contains new maps and new content for the VIP pass.
http://www.battlefieldbadcompany2.com/vip
$10 isn't really a bad deal for all that content, which will get you tons of hours more out of the game you are buying for $5.
As someone who didn't buy the game new either time and has no desire to play the mp AT ALL, the 1700+ mb download would be a huge waste of time for me.
plenty of 360 copies earlier... even though it was the "junk version"
Is vanilla better? I never buy a gimped version, best edition or bust.
i do not know if this has been answered before, but can you just go into the store and get this for 4.99 or do you have to do the in store pick up to have the price honored?
It is priced $4.99 in the system so you can just walk in and buy it. Bought 2 copies in-store in St Louis without issue
That's true that companies don't charge actual cost for shipping... but if one the size of Best Buy is having a sale, I don't expect shipping to nearly equal the cost of the game. Bottom line. It's borderline bait and switch for online customers. It's easier to ignore when the item in question is $20 or $30, but when shipping almost doubles the total cost then that's a no no in my book.

GoHastings has a plain retarded shipping policy/logistics, but they're charging actual prices. Buy.com offers free shipping for games sold by them and not one of their sellers. Wal-Mart has 99 cent or free shipping... Newegg generally has free shipping if the game is sold by them and not a partner.

I think anyone with a brain knows that it isn't "free"... but they aren't making 75% on it, either. I know other companies besides Best Buy do it, too... Amazon is terrible about it if you don't order $25 worth of stuff... but that doesn't mean I can't complain about it.

I view shipping as a service that should be provided at or under cost, much like a to go order from a restaurant. You wouldn't be thrilled with a place that put a $2 service charge on a to go order to cover the cost of clam shell containers and plastic spoons and cups.
Simple solution: Don't like the shipping costs, don't shop there. Problem solved.

Online reports seems to be that the vanilla version (360) should still come with a VIP pass so you can download free DLC, can anyone confirm?
Simple solution: Don't like the shipping costs, don't shop there. Problem solved.
I didn't shop there this time.... or at GoHastings. I guess you'd call me a problem solver. I can still express my opinion on it though.

Yeah. People are still entitled to their opinions(unless you ask some around here who wear the ol' brown shirts) and I welcome differing opinions.

But the thing is that GoHastings doesn't have one big central warehouse and games/dvds/whatever may all be coming from seperate stores, so to me the seperate shipping charges do make sense with them. Now on the other hand, if multiple items are shipping from the SAME store, then the shipping should go up nominally to cover the cost of shipping those multiple items.

But to me a company or person shouldn't be required to ship at less than what it costs them unless they're someplace that does huge volume(see: Amazon) and as such likely gets a discount for that volume.

I do agree with everything you said.

I know GoHastings ships from different places and their shipping makes sense in that regard. Their logistics make absolutely no sense, though. It's dumb from a business perspective. They would either get more sales by working out a different system OR could pocket... say... an extra 50 cents per title for themselves instead of the post office. Anyway, I was actually complimenting them for offering shipping at, what appears to be, their actual cost.

And yeah, I agree that no one should be required to ship at a loss. But they also shouldn't say "oh, we're having a sale!!" and name you one price, then make $1-$1.50 on the shipping. It's misleading at best and a plain dishonest bait and switch at worst.

I'll also cut eBay sellers and Amazon sellers, basically individuals and small businesses who happen to be selling and shipping things, a break when they charge a bit over cost. They have expenses the big guys don't... or expenses, like packaging, that are dollars where the big guys' packaging costs are pennies, sometimes fractions of pennies.

Also, Amazon is turning into a shipping offender, in my opinion. I guess that's the trade off for their *usually* lowest prices.

I don't even understand all the talk here. I got free shipping. But then again I worked hard to be a Silver Rewards member last year ;).

That's the thing though. I never give shipping costs right down the nickel when I make a deal(even on here). Then again, I've had people complain that I should use Paypal and that they wouldn't pay the extra $.40-.50 for me to get Delivery Confirmation from the post office. They were adamant about only paying the $.20 or whatever it was.

To me, if you're gonna nitpick over pennies(even up to $1-2), then I don't wanna bother with you at all since you'll also likely lowball the crap outta me which I find insulting.

Maybe I am being unreasonable by not using Paypal(but then again I also don't have a printer, so I still have to run out to the PO to mail stuff), but unless they pay the percentage of the total I'll lose to fees then I prefer what I prefer for a very valid reason.
I don't even understand all the talk here. I got free shipping. But them I worked hard to be a Silver Rewards member last year ;).
If they didn't give me RZ Silver for both my accounts this year, I would likely NEVER attain it, since I never have spent $2k or more at BB(or any store) in one year.;)
Picked up copy. No online pass. Hard to believe. Any chance you no longer need it?
This game never had an online pass. In the limited edition it did come with a VIP pass which included some DLC, such as map packs and game modes.
please stop using the term bait and switch.
That's what happened, though. They baited me in last night with a $5 price and I stuck it in my cart and BAM, it almost doubled. At the time, shipping was showing up as $3.50, a 70% jump in price. And finally, it was unexpected. Best Buy hadn't charged shipping on any $5 DOTD sales that I had gotten in on thus far. If I had known to expect it, I wouldn't feel baited and then subsequently feel like the deal price just got switched.

Please stop worrying about my terminology.

Apparently the free shipping link isn't working (I dunno, I have silver) and that's causing DukeMagnem to be very angry that companies dare charge for shipping that's more than what he thinks it costs to ship an item.

Wow just wow. So a company can never change their policies without "baiting and switching" you? Are you f'ing kidding me? Once free, always must be free or there's shenanigans going on? Are you even listening to youself?

Also, your terminology is wrong. Hey, if you want to look the fool, keep using bait and switch like that. It makes it easier for everyone to ignore you.

I am going to have to agree with confoosious here. I don't think you understand what bait and switch is.
By your logic, is paying sales tax "bait and switch"?

Yeah, I agree... and my philosophy regarding shipping makes exceptions for individuals, as I said. And the reason I complain so adamantly about this particular shipping charge is that I view things in percentages a lot of the time because percentages tell the real story... and that initial shipping charge upped the price 70%.

Anyway, if you ever get a printer, I think you can get the same shipping rates with free delivery confirmation on USPS.com that you get printing labels through PayPal.
I am going to have to agree with confoosious here. I don't think you understand what bait and switch is.
By your logic, is paying sales tax "bait and switch"?
The difference is that they're not profiting off the sales tax. They are most certainly profiting off shipping.

Furthermore, I said it was "borderline" bait and switch and then went on to say it was misleading at best and bait and switch at worst, which is opinionated in the first place.

It's not bait and switch even a little bit. B&S is when something is advertised for a specific price and they try to get you to purchase a different product, usually for a higher price.

The only thing BB is doing wrong in this case is pricing their items so low that it draws bottom-feeders out of the woodworks who think shipping should be free. What they should be doing instead is marking up everything to stay solvent long enough to have an onslaught of Black Friday deals like last year.
It's not borderline or any kind of bait and switch. Shut up already.
Yeah... it definitely is borderline. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't. You're lured in with a $5 price, but if you're not an in-store customer you have to buy into Best Buy's shipping service. Best Buy doesn't have a shipping service? Well, they apparently do, because they are offering shipping for a price they profit from. That is the important factor that differentiates this from sales tax or most other fees--the fact that they're profiting from it.

Is it arguable that it isn't bait and switch? Yeah. Sure. Is it arguable that it is? Yup, it is... thus borderline. And I'd have shut up yesterday had you not felt the need to keep going on and on.

Also... no, the free shipping link isn't working, but I don't really care. I don't buy platinum hits games anyway, and admittedly, if I saw $10 worth of value in this game, as some others here do, I wouldn't have had much to say about this shipping. But if $5 is all I value the game at and I find out it's going to cost me 70% more then I feel duped.

And no, changing their shipping policy was never the issue here, although it does make me less likely to bother looking for Best Buy deals in the future. Changing their policy, if that is even what they did, was just a negative point I mentioned. It really doesn't help their case any.

And finally, you're not doing a very good job of ignoring me.

Ok, this debate over free shipping vs not having free shipping was cute for a while, but it has gotten out of hand. Please don't discuss it any more.

I don't really get it anyway - the game seems to be readily available for store pickup. When it is available at stores in my area I know it is most places (since mine are usually out of these deals pretty quickly - for example the Skyrim CE's were long gone before they dropped to $59.99). So if you don't want to pay for shipping, put in an order for store pickup. You have a week to pick it up.

I bought a copy of Battlefield. Thank you OP. I traded my copy a long time ago, got the Vietnam DLC on the cheap and never played it! Hope to see a good community.
This game never had an online pass. In the limited edition it did come with a VIP pass which included some DLC, such as map packs and game modes.
Thanks. Sorry for the dumb question.

As someone who didn't buy the game new either time and has no desire to play the mp AT ALL, the 1700+ mb download would be a huge waste of time for me.
Yeah huge updates is annoying for games that you don't play mp. If you are stuck with the game, go to network setting in the xmb and toggle the internet connection off. Then launch the game and you can toggle the internet connection back on. That way you don't have to update. It won't affect the trophies you earn or anything.

I was going to grab it when I got up earlier today, but it can't be shipped now and my store doesn't have any.

Should have grabbed it last night/early this morning.

If anyone wanted one and wouldnt mind a 360 platinum hits version, I'm willing to get rid of mine for 6.50 shipped. I played it for a few hours to finish the campaign that i had tartrd beforehand and that's it. Pm me if interested.
