To those curious about the TV...it seems like most people have found that it is a power issue related to running the backlight at 10 for extended periods.

I've had my unit since June or July and it has flickered maybe 3 times total in that time. Twice in Diablo and once in GW2. I've never seen it flicker in any other game or just while having it on. The flicker is basically the screen going black for a couple of seconds then coming back.

Most people w/ defective units describe the flicker as happening every few minutes and lasting 4-5 seconds before coming back. I can tell you that everyone I've spoken with that has the monitor and has changed their calibration to a lower backlight has not had any issues.

Regardless of whatever problems, Sony has been pretty good with constant replacements for people who have had problems and even fully refunded some unhappy customers.
Does the TV work with NVidia 3D Vision on the PC?
Not 3DVision but with the newer 3DTV Play.....under certain conditions.

1. You need an EDIF Override
2. You need drivers NO NEWER than 296.10

I wish I had the money for this TV right now. I've been looking to pick one up and I am so tempted to do the American thing and just put it on the plastic.

Well, I could be wrong, BBY seems to have an almost limitless supply of these things and the last time I was at Fry's they had stacks of them as well so there might be a ton of them out there. It might just go down to $99, you never know.

It's pretty cool but it is only a monitor, unless you're going to be watching 3D Blurays or playing 3D console games on it then it's probably something you can skip :)
what is the best warranty for this: BB or square trade?
Personally I skipped the aftermarket warranty.

From what I've read, as mentioned a bit up on the last page I think. The big problem with these is the power supply (or something else internal) that Sony do know how to fix so if it breaks you send it to them and they fix it and then it should be reliable.

With an aftermarket warranty you'd likely just get another new one that will possibly break again since it seems none of the new ones have incorporated the fix - probably why Sony decided to not bother and just let this thing die.

Just my reasoning, but it seems to me that no matter what, if it breaks to get it into a reliable condition you will have to eventually send it to Sony to repair so why postpone the inevitable?
How well does this display work as a computer monitor?
For me it works great. Turn down the backlight and brightness and sharpness (all maxed from the factory) or else it will look like crap but it's like that with most LCDs.

Also it is quite reflective but not as bad as I thought it would be but definitely something you want to think about if you're in a bright room especially if there is a light source directly behind you.

Other than that I really like it - as you've probably seen in here, 3D is really hit or miss with the PC. Seems to work easier on nVidia cards but even nVidia doesn't officially support this monitor so it's not going to be plug and play AFAIK no matter what you have. You can get it to work, but you'll probably have to install some extra software.

Remember that you can also trade in the game it comes with for $20 at BBY right now so that makes it cheaper.

Does this have a VESA mounting option?

I ordered the 3D glassed for $30 on store pick up (they were available in pretty much every store in my area).
Now they're saying they're not available anywhere and they're going to ship it to me instead.
I'm pretty sure the BB stores nearby are pulling them off the shelves.
Does this have a VESA mounting option?
No - it doesn't. You only have the option of the stand it comes with.
There are some discussions about 'hacking it' on amazon.com , but if you look at the ones in BB stores running the PS3 demo's of MLB etc, you'll see they are just basically propped up.

Bottom line is I'm sure you could work something out, but there are no standard mounts for it.

Also (I mentioned this on another thread) this monitor does not have a 'pseudo 3D' option like the Bravia TVs. This means that you only get 3D on true 3D enabled games (uncharted3, motor storm etc) and blu-ray. I like to get some use out of the glasses on normal sources (even though the fake 3D is not brilliant) but this was the deal breaker for me as I don't have that many 3D games.

Okay... I bit. I got a 19.99 2 year protection plan because I heard so much junk about it breaking. I didn't bother researching whether it could be sent in and fixed by Sony, I'd much rather just have the option to replace in person at best buy, plus any other issues that may arise.

Altogether for under 200 bucks is fine with me. I'll hook up my PS3 and computer to it, not bad.

I don't think they'll replace it, I think they'll send it in to get it fixed.

The BB warranty and Square trade are pretty much the same. If the monitor needs to be replaced, you will have to pay for the warranty again on the new one. From what so many people have said, send it to Sony, they fix it, and you are good to go.

With square trade, it's pretty much the same deal.

Coverage Amount
For replacement payments: You are covered up to the maximum value you paid for the item. Once we pay out that amount, your Care Plan is considered fulfilled. If you would like coverage on your new item, you need to purchase a new warranty for it.

For Repairs: The Care Plan is good for multiple repairs, up to the maximum value of your item. Once the cost of repairs meets the full purchase price of the item, your Care Plan is considered fulfilled.

Whats everyones thoughts on the LG monitor for $200? I have a pretty powerful gaming PC and have been wanting to try 3D gaming with it but don't have a 3D display. Does it also work with consoles? I'd like to try Uncharted 3 in 3D...

Would you be able to elaborate on these by any chance? I don't want to derail the thread, but I was having issues w/ 3DTV play on my TV not working, and it sounds like you may have some helpful info.

that is a steal on that screen. I got one for $300 last christmas and the resolution, 3d, and contrast blew me away. The blacks are nice and black (none of that faded grey) and the colors vibrant. definitely worth a pickup for gamers.

How does Best Buy's "replacement" work when a product is discontinued?
I'm going down to trade in some games for the tv. It's my birthday next week lol. Is this in store as well or do I gotta order online?
They're in store also. Only a couple have them in stock in my area but they're too far for me to drive to make it worth it. If I get lucky and find one closer, I may pick one up.

Just a quick note: If the store locator shows stock, it means they have 3+. If it doesn't show in stock, they may have just a couple or none. Best to call your local store even if it doesn't show in stock.
Good thing I waited. Went in for two of these 3D display, now I need TV controllers for these bad boys
I got one today as well, annoyed with no remote and the buttons being on the back, but the manual says the PS3 Bluray remote works with it

What kind of TV is it? The EDIF Override for the PS3 3D Display is the same one used for unsupported Samsung 3D TVs for 3DTV Play. The reason I mention 296.10 being the latest driver you could use is because nVidia disabled that override driver.

If you were having issues, try rolling back to 296.10 and you might have some success.

As for those of you looking for remotes for the TV, know that ANY Sony brand controller works with it immediately. I have a Sony home theater system and I use that as my remote for the 3D Display...works great. So if you have any other Sony gear like an audio system, blu-ray player, etc...you can use that remote

Thanks for saying that about turning down the backlight. I have had mine since late June and it has flickered about 4 or 5 times. I turned it down to 8 instead of 10. What number do you have it on?

Would be tempted to use this as a computer monitor / a "I feel like playing my console upstairs today" monitor.

But this TV doesn't have any composite inputs, which is a real bummer. I've read on many models of TV's you can plug into the green component port to get a picture, but in the case of this TV you get a black & white picture.

Does anyone know of a composite -> component adapter? I've found some that go the other way around, but no luck otherwise.

A nice deal if it doesn't break and fits your inputs. :)

Thanks. It's a Samsung DLP, with a Mitsubishi 3D starter kit. I had to update the EDID value via a guide on AVs forum to get it to work. 3D works on a PS3, 360, and a previous PC with AMDHD, just not w/ 3DTVPlay. What is this override? Is it a driver hack? Sadly my 14-day trial ran out, so I have to make sure it'll work before I buy it. Dunno if it sees my TV as Samsung or Mitsubishi. Bummer only old drivers work.

I was looking for the same kind of thing too since my cable box is only composite out. I found this composite -> hdmi at amazon with pretty good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Composite-S-v...=UTF8&colid=3JX1PBJJLHLWW&coliid=I6Y42EL38ZFL
Not sure about any composite -> component though sorry.

If the TV is replaced inside of warranty, then you don't need a new plan. If it's replaced outside of warranty then the warranty is fulfilled and you can buy another if you choose. However, my understanding is it's moot since they'll just send it to their service center to repair it.

Why do you need composite inputs? Is it to use with your computer? Upgrade your video card, get an HDMI output. Composite is really, really low-end. Improve the source if you can.

Ah, sorry should've clarified. I play old consoles quite a bit. So my Saturn, Dreamcast, SNES, NES, and Genesis would all be out of luck. I do have component cables for my Gamecube, Wii, Xbox, PS2 + HDMI for PS3/360/PC.
In regard to that, does anyone know if it works with Steam?
I can't remember who posted it or where but they wrote it does NOT activate on Steam.

Eh, ended up cancelling my order ... just too many questionable aspects to the monitor ... obviously the failure rate is a huge issue, but after watching a number of reviews and doing some research, I also found issues with the reflectiveness of the screen, the way all the cables stick out of the side and are visible from the front, the fact simulview isn't 3D and as one reviewer stated, you would get a larger split screen view on most TVs and wouldn't be wearing what amount to indoor sunglasses to see it.

Basically, it seems great as a bedroom tv, but won't replace a PC monitor and isn't particularly great as a main tv given size and numerous other factors.

I'd probably buy it for $99 though ;-)

Oh jeez, that's a tricky set-up. I'm not sure how that would work. The EDIF Override is only to trick 3DTV Play into thinking your display is a "white list" display...that is, approved by nVidia for the app. Basically that override is just for monitors that can already meet the required 3D output.

Unfortunately, there's no way I could tell you for certain. If your kit is like nvidia's old one...an IR emitter and active glasses, that means your TV is already outputting the proper image. Without having it and troubleshooting it, I would have no idea if it'll end up working. Sorry if I gave you false hope.

Thanks for saying that about turning down the backlight. I have had mine since late June and it has flickered about 4 or 5 times. I turned it down to 8 instead of 10. What number do you have it on?

I have mine set to either 5 or 7, I can't remember. Back when I got it, I used a tweaked version of the calibration a commenter on Amazon posted. If you google "ps3 3d display calibration + amazon" you should find it pretty easily.

Unless you're unlucky enough to get a display that was previously returned or one that was very poorly constructed, running w/ a

I have to admit I wasn't expecting much for that PlayStation Display, but it's really very nice quality IMO.

I had purchased a Samsung 24" LED screen from Newegg ($200) and was extremely dissatisfied by it.
The colors were terrible, LED lighting uneven, and viewing angle. No matter how you adjusted the colors they had a purple or yellowish hue.

I ended up returning it and I bought a PlayStation 3D Display (also for $199).

I'm very happy with the colors, lighting, and even aesthetics of it. It was nearly perfect right out of the box. After a few tweaks I think it looks better than my 2 other large screen HDTV's.

The 3D is excellent as well, but honestly I don't know how long my eyes can take of it. It's fun to use every once in a while. Zen Pinball 2 looks friggin' incredible in 3D! Especially Plants Vs' Zombies and the Marvel tables. The 3D effect in Uncharted 3, Motorstorm Apocalypse, and Wipeout HD is also pretty mind blowing.

The issue of defective power on these definitely concerned me, but I also bought a 4 year Square Trade warranty for $20 (with 40% off coupon) and if it should fail I will simply move on to monitor #2 and get a full refund for the first. No biggie. :)

I took a bunch of unboxing pics and added links to reviews,
and supported 3D PlayStation 3 media here in case anyone is interested.

Anyway, for $159 I couldn't pass up buying another.
If you consider the Sony Active shutter 3D glasses are selling for nearly $70 on their own, new copy of MotorStorm Apocalypse,
PS branded HDMI cable (probably $30ish, that leaves $59 for a brand new 24"
3D Sony screen and that seems like a hell of a deal to me! :)

If you love the style of the Vita/PSP you will love the way this thing looks.
It doesn't feel cheap either. The glass covering the screen has a sturdy feel to it while the backing and stand remains
overall light and thin.
Spoonman, would you mind posting your video settings for both the Display and your PS3?
It's pretty much stock on the display. I think I only turned up the brightness one or two notches.

The PS3 is set to 1080p, Full Range RGB, Super White.
It automatically set the 3D option as a 24" screen. when booting on the new PS Display.

I am using my PS3 mostly at night with very little light so I guess your optimal settings would depend on things such as that.

I googled my settings. Check maybe just a page or two back. Go with the gamefaqs link. The guy used a calibration disc to get his settings. And I have to say they are done pretty good settings

Was on the fence but, eh, it's only money. Picked up the 3d display. Had $40 in gift cards so it came to $120 and change. Went to my car, opened it up, took out Motorstorm and walked back in and traded it for $20 GC.

Wasn't expecting much from the monitor but it's great. Nice to play some of my pc games like Dungeon Defenders, Torchlight 2 and Orcs Must Die 2 in 3d for a change. Even fired up Diablo 3 and WoW just to see how they looked.... it was amazing. D3 and Torchlight both seemingly have multiple layers of depth in the game, looks really cool.

Got this to replace my dying 21.5" Hanns G monitor for several years ago. Great purchase.
