If you were having issues, try rolling back to 296.10 and you might have some success.

=
Yes- ran into this issue and it took me hours to finally find the solution and the only thing I could do was rollback the drivers. Works great though.

Decided to jump the gun on this and I must say I am very impressed. I have decided to put it in my office with the ps3 and have tested it out for over 3 hrs and don't have any issues. I'm going to connect it to DirecTV tomorrow and probably abuse it for a while to see if there's any faults. 3D is definitely amazing on Motorstorm and the quality is superb. Definitely worth the purchase and with 2 year protection plan through Best Buy it came to $192 so I am satisfied.

Bought my display today, and the screen is already blinking off and on every 15 minutes or so, bringing it back for an exchange tomorrow, if they dont have another I'll just get my money back. Shame because it's really nice.

It must really just be a hit or miss with these displays. Buddy of mine said he has had his for nearly a year, and not one single problem. I used every bit of store credit I had left, and picked up one today for my 3yr old son. I figured why spend $100 or so on a regular LCD, when I can just get this. Got it all hooked up, adjusted the settings, fired up Motorstorm Apocalypse, and away he went. Between myself and both of my sons, we played a good 3 hours on it. It has been on now a good 8 hours, and I haven't seen any issues with it. I will probably go with the Bestbuy protection plan just because I hate mailing stuff like this out. I'd rather just make a drive to the store. $30 for 4 years coverage seems like a good deal to me.

Seems like almost everybody is reporting problems with the TV. Makes me wonder if Sony cut the price by $300 because they're planning to make a new version that fixes most of the reported problems.

in fact at E3 a new version WAS announced. That one will also be glasses-free 3d AND will also be available in a 40 inch model....

but the thing is Its gone dead quiet since its announcement...I havnt heard ANYTHING on when it may come out.

because it probably never will, and nowhere near the price of this one. I think it was just a prototype. As of late, sony is not taking many chances spending on innovation. Even bestbuy doesn't list their sets in their ads anymore, I'm guessing sony is not paying for it.

I don't think Sony will be making another one seeing how 3D is not even catching on like they had hoped during last years E3 when they announced this 3D display.

I think they might have moved on by developing this instead.

. Lol. But, seriously. Being a 3D nut, that's going to be interesting. Didn't, even, know about the previous version of those.

My Sony source said they decided not to make a new model because this one sold poorly. Of course, it might not be selling poorly now but I was told they're losing money at this price point.

I suspect if they could have profitably sold a 32" at $300 - that actually worked reliably - it would have done very well.

It is nice, but honestly I'll wait until I can get one on a super clearance because I'd just use it for a computer monitor or a second display when my fiancee is playing 360.

On the Best Buy warranty, could you mix and match the repairs/replacement?

For example, if the set dies quickly, have Sony fix it first, and if it goes bad again after that or after Sony's warranty period expires, then use the Best Buy warranty to replace it?

Be VERY careful with best buy's extended warranty though even if it seems similar to squaretrade and others. Know what you are buying.
Go read their fine print it.

If we determine, at our sole discretion, that your product cannot be repaired, we will replace it with a product of like kind and quality that is of comparable performance or reimburse you for replacement of the product with a voucher or gift card, at our discretion, equal to the current market value of the product, as determined by us, not to exceed the original purchase price of your product, including taxes.

Technological advances may result in a replacement product with a lower selling price than the original
product.

So you are guaranteed to get way less than the original value of the item. There are countless posts on the BBY forums and reseller ratings claiming to have been offered a tiny fraction of the actual cost of the item.

Keep reading down and see all the limitations and "our discretion".
I've yet to have to file a claim with squaretrade, but their conditions seem much more customer friendly frankly.

how's the reliability of the display? I read a bunch of stories on how the display blacked out after a few months and i'm not willing to take any chances, even though the price is a steal atm.
My guess is, this will drop to $100 on BF. I'll wait until then.
Good luck with that.

Ah, I might jump on this. For $8, it seems like a decent game to play when your friends come over and you have a few beers.

I got mine over the weekend and I'm a little weary of the reliability.

Many users report that very intermittently the screen will go black while in use for about half a second. The picture is black, the sound stops, then it comes right back. I played a LOT on it this weekend (About 24 hours just between Saturday and Sunday, and probably 4-5 more on Friday)

The total number of these intermittent blackouts I encountered was probably around 6-7. Definitely no more than 10.

Now, this was also more or less straight usage. And when I wasn't gaming on it, I was using it as a monitor for my laptop. So it was more or less stress tested right out of the box.

It doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, and I'm almost certain it's related to heat. The TV is very slim, and gets fairly warm (especially with a laptop blowing heat its way, a PS3 running, and a older used-to-be high end desktop near the area contributing). It's also upstairs on a desk with its back against the wall.

The blackout issue is personally trivial enough that it doesn't bother me. I will be returning to Best Buy to add an extended warranty because while the short-term effects don't bother me, the long-term reliability of the display is drawn into question a bit.

Black Eyed Peas. Uh, yay? But seriously, it's kinda nice that BB has slowed down on the good gaming deals for now. My gaming budget's been under attack from GOG, Kmart, the bundle onslaught, and especially Xbox Live.

I picked up the display for my younger son Friday and it's been fine so far. Yesterday, the display was turned on around 10am and stayed on until 1am this morning. I have yet to see any screen flickering and hope it stays that way. I will be skipping the Bestbuy warranty because of what another user posted regarding Bestbuy and their warranty coverage.

I've used them for multiple years, they routinely send 30% off coupons to their customers on a weekly basis (Tuesday, if I remember right) and their processes for reimbursement are very simple. 20% off coupons are usually easy to find at other times as well.

If it's an item that can be repaired like a TV or a laptop, they pay someone to come out and repair it. If it can't be repaired, they send you a reimbursement for the purchase price + tax of the item. If it's something that normally isn't repairable, then they have you ship it off and do the same reimbursement process.

Payment is via Paypal, check or Amazon GC, and if you get paid out with an Amazon GC, you get a 5% bonus in the payout.

They're great and very easy to deal with. Plus, they have accidental damage handling upgrades for items that might be dropped.

Another option is ServiceNet, though I've only had one experience with them and it was alright. Not as good as SquareTrade, that's for certain.

Thanks for posting the info shrike. Squaretrade is who I will be going with. I plan on checking around later and see if I can locate a coupon.
I've bought numerous warranties from SquareTrade and I can't say enough good things about them.
I noticed this in their sample terms:

THE VALUE OF YOUR COVERAGE:

The value of your Care Plan is in most cases equal to the purchase price of your item. Each time you file a valid claim, and we provide repair, the total value of your coverage is reduced by the cost of the repairs.

Then if you file another valid claim with us on the same item, and repairs are estimated to cost more than the remaining value of your Care Plan, the remaining value of your Care Plan will be offered instead.

How much do they charge for a repair like this, though? I would imagine the first repair cost would blow past the coverage amount. If it's even as low as $100, then it can only be repaired once over the course of 3 years.

I don't have much experience with extended warranties. This is probably how they all operate, but $30 - 3 years protection sounds a bit different from $30 - 1 repair and maybe some cash back (not that this is necessarily a bad deal either).

Is this everyone's expectation getting one?
When was the last time Itunes cards were the DOTD? The last one I remembered was back in April.
Hey ZeroFlame15, according to the Apple IOS thread, OfficeMax has a special this week : if you purchase two $25 iTunes gift cards, you get $10 back.

So you could actually walk away with $100 in iTunes credit for only $80, which is normally what the DOTD is at Best Buy. Unless you're a Reward Zone member & REALLY want the points, I'd suggest taking advantage of the OfficeMax deal. I did @ 2 months ago when they ran the same sale. I figured I could easily earn 80 points within the next few months...especially with the holidays coming up.

Hope this helps.

The only item I have that they would likely repair would be a TV and if things hold true on that repair in the future, it'll likely be junked out for the parts outweighing the original value of the TV set.

Everything else I've had dealt with from Squaretrade, Tivo units, hard drives, networking components, they were shipped out and credited back with value of purchase.

I doubt Sony would have any parts to provide third-party repair technicians for this display, and as it's small enough to be replaced via replacement item shipment, I assume SquareTrade would behave the same way and just junk it out for replacement value.

Ahh, okay. Makes sense. Thanks for all the info Shrike!

I've had this display since the first round of sales ($299, then pm'd after to get the Show 12 and 2nd pair of glasses free). I initally used this as a bedroom tv with Netflix and Hulu but recently built a gaming PC so this is now my monitor for that as well. With all that being said I've never had it "black out" on me or anything like that and I have no dead pixels. Maybe I'm the anomaly but I'm really enjoying this display so far. (Knockin on wood cause I got no warranty lol)

Also the 3d effect is awesome with 360 and PS3 and hit or miss on PC really. I can say Battlefield 3 on PC looks sick as well in 3D

Squaretrade is awesome!!

Total turnaround time from the day I shipped a defective ps3 and when I received it was one week!! Seriously!!

One thing to note is if you're using AmEx or some Visa/Mastercards, those CC's usually extend the manf. warranty by one year so look into that.

I can vouch for SquareTrade also. They fixed an Ipod Touch for me in about a weeks time. Paid for a replacement Viper car alarm remote and paid out on a 160GB Slim PS3 power supply I had fixed locally. If I was smart about it I should have told the repair shop just to say it was beyond repair and got my $300. The repair shop would have made $20 off the diagnostic fee and I could have bought a new 320 GB.

I can't find a coupon code anywhere. If one of you guys that get discount codes emailed to you from Squaretrade, would you mind sharing it?

Has anyone ordered this from Bestbuy.com?
If so can you please let me know if they used a shipping box or not.

So I got my PlayStation 3D Display today. I have to say I am extremely disappointed with Bestbuy.com for not packaging this in a SHIPPING BOX!

It's totally obvious Sony made these to be displayed in a retail store and NOT to be durably shipped across the country. They are paper thin glossy cardboard with no styrofoam whatsoever.

Is this common practice for Bestbuy.com to slap a shipping label on merchandise and throw it in the mail? Do they do the same thing with PlayStation systems, toasters, etc? If so...Remind me never to shop at BB again!:shame:

Anyway, I haven't even opened the thing.. It looks like it was dragged through a swamp the last couple of miles to my house. The box is trashed and there are huge labels all over the front and back of it. The total lack of care taken with this is just sad.

It's my understanding that larger TV boxes (sized 40" and up) are designed in such a way that makes them its safe for shipping, but this doesn't look like one of those boxes!

I ordered one of these from Newegg.com a couple months ago (For $199) and it arrived in a proper shipping box and I sort of expected the same treatment from a large company such as Bestbuy.

Also, I noticed it says "When mailing merchandise to our return center, your only option is to receive a credit for your purchase."

A CREDIT?! On my Credit Card or for use with BestBuy?

I checked my local store for stock on these and they are sold out, as they also appear to be online. I seem to be screwed here. :(
When did Bestbuy get taken over by the Mafia?

Wow, you are right. This display is sold out in every BB store around my area also and online. Just checked sonystyle.com and they are sold out as well. I guess those that got in at $150-$160 got it at rock bottom pricing.

As for your question, they mean credit to your credit card since they don't do exchanges for returns sent back to there warehouse.

If there's 3 or less of an item in stock at a Best Buy store, then it may show as out of stock. Your best bet is to check your closest BB store for stock first and if they are out of it, then you can just return it in store.

But have you actually tried opening it to see if the display works, even though the box looks like crap? You'd be surprised how durable flimsy cardboard is at protecting the items inside.;)
