I assume its possible, but I can't think of a real life situation that would cause it to "explode".
Ah breadboards...my young undergrad days...
Smart phones need the same battery that NASA's curiosity has. You've gotta tweak your settings allot to maximize battery on these damn things
Plutonium powered phones? No thanks.

Basic electronics and Physics

The teacher that taught those classes would teach a class or two at the nearby university
^Relax...I was just joking.

But for the record, it did happen once in China (the irony). It exploded in his front jeans pocket (hence my "joke" in post #5948). When I worked in Shanghai, it was possible to get those accessories that you buy in the U.S., before the labeled were printed on them.
After seeing HUGE multi page arguments about them in phone forums, I'm probably thin skinned about the discussion about them.. ;)

Back on topic, Best Buy yesterday announced lower than expected earnings for Q3 (Jul-Oct). That's good news for us. Why you ask? Because now they're under pressure to increase earnings in the last quarter and to have a strong Christmas season. Expect to see a lot of discounted prices as they try to push product out the door.

Aka bestbuy game game sale rush of 2011 happening again this year ;)

Or expect the gravy train of cheap/free games to dry up as they attempt to stop bleeding cash from the @gamer coupons.

I'm guessing you don't have a background in business. You don't increase earnings by cutting prices unless you can make it up in significant volume. They tried that last Christmas and it was a disaster for their earnings. I would expect them to refocus on things they can do better than on-line retailers (instant delivery of products, customer service, etc...) rather than slashing prices or continuing to give away product.

well, that is the mostly likely. The situation is looking more like it with circuit city. Bestbuy had a good run, and their video game trade in promotion is legendary, and unheard of, lol

Agreed, but better customer service or instant delivery doesn't really get people through the door does it. They need a bit of sizzle to sell the steak.

They're under pressure to reassure stock holders especially after this week's major sell off. They need to have a strong holiday season to regain investor confidence. I'm not suggesting that they'll necessarily be dropping prices across the board but desperation as the holiday season comes to a close if they're not making significant sales. I'd gladly wager that they'll risk sacrificing long term gain to satisfy short term needs. Remember, the product in the warehouses and on the shelves is paid for (sort of, I don't have all morning to explain that practice in detail) so it's a matter of getting what you can now. And as you no doubt are aware, video games are a rapidly depreciating asset.

On top of that, I guarantee you that there's been discussions in Bentonville on how to put the boot to the throat of Best Buy this Christmas. Don't underestimate the pressure that puts on them.

Not sure I see a silver lining in all of these tech/retail earnings report. It just makes me sad.

They've already taken steps to curb this. I don't recall any amazing stacks with sales over the last few months.
Agreed, but better customer service or instant delivery doesn't really get people through the door does it. They need a bit of sizzle to sell the steak.
I'd say a large chunk of the sizzle from last year was sizzled online.

Also, I think Best Buy knows well enough now that plenty of consumers may buy the sizzle at Best Buy, then smell the steak there and buy it on Amazon. I know they price match now, but if you're buying a larger item there are still tons of people willing to get it through Amazon to save on tax, especially now in my area where some zip codes are 9.5%.

Can Best Buy undercut Amazon by 10%?

Did anyone see South Park on Wednesday with Randy buying Blockbuster? That's Best Buy within 2-3 years.
They still air South Park? I thought that went the way of Circuit City years ago...
At least South Park never sold tv warranties for a third of the price of the tv. fuck Circuit City.
At least South Park never sold tv warranties for a third of the price of the tv. fuck Circuit City.
Blasphemer!!!! :shame: Circuit City was one of the best places to get deals on games (probably one of the many factors that forced them to close). Circuit City is surely missed by me and other cags.
At least South Park never sold tv warranties for a third of the price of the tv. fuck Circuit City.
Conns was the same way. When I bought my 50" plasma back in 2007, I paid $1300. They wanted to sell me a 3 year warranty for $500. YEAH RIGHT!
They still air South Park? I thought that went the way of Circuit City years ago...
I think South Park has gotten better over the last few years. They pretty much nailed the Honey Boo Boo episode.

I will say Circuit City's warranties were often ridiculous. I bought a 8gb nano there when they first came out. They wanted me to buy a 2 year warranty for $80. They were selling the nanos for like $220. The guy selling even tried to convince me that, if I wanted, before the warranty was up, I could just throw my ipod down and run over it, then bring it in and they would give me a gift card for the amount of my original purchase....

Bought a Sony camera there as well for $399. The guy argued with us that we were making a mistake for not buying a $100 warranty on it... Only thing that worked was telling him he could either shut up about the warranty and sell me the camera or I'd go buy it somewhere else.

On topic... Did anyone else get an S3 today? It was a shit show around 1015est... Their system kept going down. Took over 90min to get my phone activated.

Had an iPhone for five years and I need to get used to some of the idiosyncrasies on this phone. Double tap for period and predictive text being the first two.
Not sure I see a silver lining in all of these tech/retail earnings report. It just makes me sad.
Here's one: You know that wall of TVs in every Best Buy? Best Buy is in a better position than most retailers to sacrifice potential Q1 earnings for lesser Q4 gains because they know they're going to sell a lot of those TVs at the end of January.
They've already taken steps to curb this. I don't recall any amazing stacks with sales over the last few months.
You didn't get in on the $10 ME3 CE or the Free Battlefield 3 Limited edition?

Go to settings and then language and input and change the default to android keyboard. The default Samsung keyboard is all kinds of strange and the android is a lot closer to iOS, including double-space punctuation.

Thank you! This is a step in the right direction. It's gonna take some time to get used to, but so far I'm enjoying the phone and droid os.

I already had ME so I didn't bother. I must've just missed the Battlefield 3 one.
You didn't get in on the $10 ME3 CE or the Free Battlefield 3 Limited edition?
Both of those were extremely YMMV as they were clearance items, which per the fine print of the coupons, aren't valid. I was denied a return/rebuy of the ME3 CE with this as part of the explanation.

Yeah, I had an iPhone for about 3 years and then switched to a Galaxy Note when the iOS update a few months back gimped my fiance's iPhone and I gave her mine. I'm still trying to get it just right with tweak apps, but overall I'm liking it alot. Definitely a change from the iPhone.

I have to hand it to Apple, even though it's more or less "dumbed down," iOS is pretty streamlined.
.

This is 100% accurate. I have an android phone, galaxy S2 and an iPad, so I've spent a lot of time with both. While I love the customization options with android, it's nice that IOS just works and I don't have any problems with it. I've had some issues with my phone, such as battery drain, but that's part of being an open network where you can pretty much do whatever you want.

It's a trade off and both OS'es aren't for everyone but its a Better world with both of them being there.

Mine never could get it to work. Online and in store was a cluster so it never happened. Spent over three hours there total in two trips plus time with the online mobile people. They said the system crashed so they couldnt access the carriers systems. I could of had the blue or white in store but I wanted the black, which was online only. I just went to the VZ store and paid $200, sorry I waited for the deal now I would of bought it last weekend.

Not sure how to feel about it yet, my first non iPhone in about 5 years as well.

Yeah, sorry guys, our computer systems were utter hell to work with today. I worked from 10-7 and the whole time it was janky. Trying to activate any phones took me at least an hour a piece since we had to do them over the phone.

I'm waiting as I've heard a rumor that Verizon could be offering a BOGO sale (that includes the S3) on or around Black Friday.

As a person who may or may not have gotten hired recently by Best Buy I would love to help spread the word on upcoming deals........I just need to know where to go to check haha. (In Training Newb)

Um... Employee News in ETK, select Gaming under the dropdown, look at the weekly media something-or-other. I haven't been there in months, so I'm nearly useless, but I tried!

Finally got to checking... and no gaming deals again this week. :whistle2:(

Galaxy S3s are gonna be $100 again on Thursday. I really wish we would just do a week-long sale for this damn thing already.

argh I am debating if I should wait till black friday to see what other deals there are. It's kind of odd that all the tmobile phones on bb.com are sold out...

No they aren't. Only some of them are. And in the store if you ask an employee about Instant Ship, they may be able to send one out to you and ship for free. I think the inventory for in-store orders are diferent than .com.
