wow, store pickup is even gone now too.

edit: im not confused right? even in the past when shipping wasn't available we could still do in-store pickup right?

FYI: I just checked an old store pickup email for Luigis mansion and it says the same thing. Nothing to worry about. Unless the store fucks up big time tomorrow.

I thought afterwards it was stupid to get mine today then go back tomorrow for the PM, and I should've just checked out tonight.

I just got a bunch of shit dropped on me no one should have to hear, so I came here to calm my nerves and see what's up. This stuff sold out fast, so I've got my copy here safe and sound. But dammit, I may not get any sleep tonight and I only got about 3 hours last night. Hope you all have a better night than I just did.
Seeing as you can only put 1 in your cart, I doubt its someone reselling it. We're sure to see a few of these on eBay in the coming days though.
Almost every store in DC metro area reported "unavailable" within 45 minutes, it went OOS online in just over an hour, and even the stock checker got knocked offline. Still think that 1-per-order limit stops resellers? :)

Hope everything is okay. Glad you got a copy.

The store inventory still shows that majority of the stores in my area have it in stock. I probably could get one if I wanted today if I go when the store opens. Not worth it though. Already have the game. Was getting it for the friends but oh well.

Seeing as over 300k people read this thread, over 2k read the thread on SlickDeals, over 100k read the deal on FatWallet, yeah I would say a bunch of people are up getting the game. I'm sure plenty of resellers got the game for themselves and to sell, doesn't mean majority of them got every stock.

It's not good to blame everyone else for you missing out on a deal.

I didn't miss out. I encouraged someone whose local stores had already been cleaned out to buy it online before resellers drove it OOS, and you pooh-poohed with some BS about order limits. You're delusional if you think most of the stock went to single copy buyers. Serious resellers (and exporters) locked in dozens. They'll sell some stock off as a hedge and and hold the them until the HD collection releases and/or the holidays. If it's clear that the price is soft and that they won't be worth holding, they'll just return whatever's left on day 60. I get that people hate flippers and hoarders, but ignoring their existence and their business model is a surefire way to miss out on the deals you want.
I was not going to let a store Tron CE me, again. Got 1 for pickup and 1 shipped.
Weren't those like $25 at Gamestop?

That Tron C.E was barely even worth it lol. It looks like a Happy Meal toy, the only redeeming quality is the fact it lights up (Which I didnt even realize till like last month when another poster said he discovered it)

What the hell?! On the old deals page, it said that the new deals would appear at Midnight PST! But I check 30 minutes before Midnight PST and it's 100% sold out in stores and online!

Edit: I checked the page again, and there's still 26 minutes counting down until the 'new deals' show up. Why does Best Buy have to be run by such amateurs?

It might be one of these phantom sell outs as well. Doesn't Best Buy pull the sell out move early when there's heavy orders then it shows up again like at 6 AM. I seem to recall that happening a few times in the past (especially when you start seeing not available for in store pick up anywhere)

I don't think you clearly read my comment. I'm just saying you shouldn't blame resellers for the whole stock going out. You're telling me that of the 100's of 1,000's of people that saw the deal that majority of that inventory went to resellers. I would believe that but not in this case.

No one is ignoring them, I'm just stating why I think it went out quickly and who brought it.

No need to get all in a rough about it.

I remember that happening during Black Friday. It might be worth it to wait a few hours and see if more stock comes in. I wouldn't be surprised to see tomorrow that all stores are back in stock and BB was just holding out.

WTH, not even midnight yet and it is sold out and not available for store pickup? I'm used to the shipping not being available but usually you can use store pickup...

regarding bestbuy dotd, if you want to ensure you get your piece of the deal. you better stalk the bestbuy website like a hawk, and refresh.

sd affect, they already had a thread over there. Second reason, being bestbuy are just trying to clearance it to create inventory space. Not much stock to begin with.

It's worth it to say that the time zone for BB (at least for me) is 1PM EST. Not sure what time zone you have but it would be worth it to check the time zones on these type of deals.

Usually the Best Buy DotD prices go live around 11:30 pm Pacific and I checked just after that and apparently missed this one by more than an hour and a half. Oh well, no big deal... But no store pickup is a little annoying - even if it was OOS everywhere it would be nice at least to be able to see that. I have a feeling that option will return some time in the early morning and I'll miss it then too ;) (That has happened in the past).

I read about that.
BB had them on sale for $9.99.
Oh, that sucks for people who paid full price.

Yeah. I also missed it because of that. I was thinking that maybe it would be midnight of another region, but I didn't see that it was live at 10:00 pm, so I just kept working on my project and I noticed it was live a few minutes later, but it was all gone.

Dude, I'll be asleep at 6 am. I'm too busy tomorrow.
The price is 9.99 in store correct?
It will be tomorrow but only if people didn't grab all the available copies when store pickup was live (which apparently it was for a bit). For me, it is definitely NOT worth the 30 mile round trip just to check to see if they might have any copies. As someone said earlier, stock was probably pretty low on this game at most stores before this anyway.

Not trying to be rough. This is reality. During that big BBY clearance a few weeks ago resellers camped out in parking lots around here and emptied whole stores out within minutes of opening. See a Chinese dude in Prada loafers and a bespoke suit drop $3k to wipe out every deal in a store and you'll change your tune.

I'm friendly with several exporter resellers. It's a full time job for them and pretty lucrative. Games are just one line of business for them -- they spend a lot of time buying and shipping smartphones and other stuff that can turn a solid profit in Mideastern or Asian grey markets.

Aw, what?! I didn't think it'd sell out that quickly... Now I'll have to ask my brother to check the local BBY for a copy since I won't have the chance.
It's worth it to say that the time zone for BB (at least for me) is 1PM EST. Not sure what time zone you have but it would be worth it to check the time zones on these type of deals.
Then why does the Best Buy page currently states 10 minutes until the old deals end? And it's 10 minutes until Midnight PST.
oh wow. Even the store checker is unavailable. Lucky I checked before though.
You can still access the store availability checker, however, it will just tell you that this product can be purchased "in-store only" for those stores that may still have copies. As you can see this deal is quite popular, so you can imagine that the system received a lot of order requests for this product. A given stores inventory may not always match what the BBY system has listed for that specific store, so sometimes in order to prevent more orders being made than there is product availability the system will automatically lock out online users from making in-store pickup purchases. The lock out usually is lifted when stores have confirmed their product inventory right before opening hours, so it may or may not become available again in a few hours.

Same goes for shipping, I think we've all seen a great deal that "Sold Out Online" fairly quickly only to be listed as available again later that day. I know there are no guarantees as every situation is different when it comes to these type of deals, but at least one can stay vigilant, right?

One last recommendation for those people who have a store nearby that may still have it in stock. Try calling the store in the morning and asking Customer Service if they will hold a copy for you. My store is always willing to help out customers, and they have held copies of certain games that were sold out online and listed for "in-store only" under the condition that I came that same day.

I doubt this sale went to hoarders, only 1 of 4 stores in my area had it and they only had a few copies.

But I have definitely seen some other sales get hoarded like theres no tomorrow.
You can still access the store availability checker, however, it will just tell you that this product can be purchased "in-store only" for those stores that may still have copies.
I was just going to post this. I'd never tried it before but the way I got there was to go to the checker for the used copy and then paste the new game SKU (4709462) into the URL in place of the used game SKU.

And the results of that was that it is not available at any of the stores close to me. I'd have to go 20+ miles (each way) just to see if the "in store only" location might possibly have one left by the mid-afternoon. Not bloody likely ;).

I have seen that happen, plenty of times actually (not in my local area though). The way I see it is its a job and sometimes a career for people. Just as some people work a 9 to 5, so do they. I can't blame them for finding an alternative, and sometimes better way at making money.

It's just my mentality to understand why people do these type of things. Yeah, I think of situations from all angles before casting a stone on people. Now buying out a whole store is definitely not right imo. I think we can all agree on that. For this situation, I'm simply stating that I don't think the whole inventory was done by majority resellers.

"See a Chinese dude in Prada" lol, I don't want to imagine that :booty: I think we can both agree to disagree though.
Then why does the Best Buy page currently states 10 minutes until the old deals end? And it's 10 minutes until Midnight PST.
Seeing as my time isn't PST, I can't really tell you why.

D'oh! That was fast. Missed it, and the closest store to me that showed it in stock (before they removed the option to view the stock for it on the site) was 40 minutes away. Probably not worth the trip since it's almost certain to be cleaned out.

So to all the people who bought 5 copies or bought copies without even owning the system, would you mind selling me yours for the price you paid and free shipping? Since you know, you basically stole the copies from other people who can and will actually play them. :|

I don't think it was hoarders that depleted most of the stock. The item was already sold out in most stores when Vyse gave us the heads up 4 days ago. It was only available in 2 out of the 10 closest Best Buy to me.

I try my best to inform people about the BB DOTDs including posting them in the OP when somebody like Vyse comes forward with early information so people don't have to go digging through the thread. I even had the time posted of when the deal should go live.

$9.99 game + kingdom hearts + lowest price so far + low stock = fast sell out

Tip for next time:

 • Check the OP once daily.

Words that everyone should abide by. xD
Lol someone buying a copy without owning the system is stealing? They deserve it just as much as anyone else
:applause:If you got the game before others than how is it your fault for others not being awake or quick enough to get it. I miss out on deals all the time but never once did I think that I was being robbed b/c I missed out on the deal. Congrats to those that got in on it. I hope I have better luck next time.

Arbitrage. They stayed up late and bought in bulk so soccer moms and other inattentive folks can get a better-than-MSRP deal down the road through Amazon, eBay, Craigslist, whatever. Don't be a hater.
