Really would like that Elgato, but my main TV uses component... A Hippauge with HDMI/component inputs is only $20 more. Is there anyone to dissuade me from jumping on that instead?

Will do a bit of research at lunch, but I think I'll bite on one of these.

You can use component with the Elgato IIRC. I think that there is a separate component hookup with its accompanying cable.

Edit: my bad there isn't a component out on the Elgato.

Just tried to do a price adjustment with Amazon and no luck. They kept telling me they don't offer price adjustments with 3rd party sellers even though it was Amazon.com fulfilling the price. Even with showing them a screenshot they would flat out not give me a price adjustment even after giving screenshot proof they were offering the price.

Needless to say I'm pretty disappointed with Amazon not warranting their own prices, generally their customer service is pretty good but not even any credits off of a future purchase is kind of a letdown when I purchased the product less than two weeks ago.

I think you were right the first time. It comes with component cables. At least on the back of the box it says it does.

DO NOT buy the Hauppauge. It's just an HDMI upgrade from the Component version of their capture device. It requires drivers to get functionality and passthrough. Overall it was a "clunkier" product compared to the Elgato. Biggest turn off is that it uses an AC adapter, whereas the Elgato is powered by USB.

The only consideration is whether or not your PC can handle the capture processing or not. Only then I would consider Hauppauge if you don't have a multicore processor. But I think by then I would pony up the little extra towards the Avermedia LGP.

The elgato sort of has component (its an adapter thing, where you plug your red, blue and green plugs into the end of that goes into the elgato), but it is usually advertised for the PS3 because of the HDCP or whatever copyright thing the PS3 has over HDMI. You can connect the 360 thru the elgato using component. If you are recording or have the program opened, you need to set the settings to PS3 to be able to see it passed thru the tv

Yeah Amazon wouldn't match the price for the order I put in Friday. Needless to say I'll be returning my Elgato from Amazon and ordering from BBY. After return costs and tax from BBY I'll save $15.

The $100 price is clearly the best price for the Elgato. If I didn't have one already, I would definitely buy it now.

Does anyone have the Elgato and the Avermedia LGP? Just curious if drivers and software for both devices can be installed on the same partition/computer without conflicting with one another. (To clarify, I don't plan to use them simultaneously.) I've got the LGP working great right now. I want to test out the Elgato, but I don't want to install anything that might mess up my LGP.
I had the AverMedia LGP for about a month (I used it for my Extra Life marathon livestream). I then got the Elgato Game Capture HD when it was a BB deal for $149 at the time or something, a month later.

The software for both was installed at the same time but I don't think you could use them simultaneously, much in the same way either LGP or Elgato would report that the device is in use (if, say, XSplit software was using it). I didn't encounter any issues, CaseX!

My reasons for keeping the Elgato over the LGP were these:

1. When using XSplit, switching consoles (via an HDMI switcher before passing signal into the LGP) worked smooth with the Elgato. With the Avermedia, I always had to do some workaround "refreshing" of the device within XSplit.

2. Seemingly nicer device control software with the Elgato.

3. I didn't need PC-free recording. LGP does this well, though, from what little time I spent with the feature/function.

Regarding HDCP and PS3 (as well as PS4 too)....

Also, there are HDCP strippers out there if you are hardcore about capturing or streaming at 1080p. I have one that is a DVI to HDMI converter. Sounds weird, but you hook the PS3's HDMI cable up to a HDMI>DVI adapter, then pass it through to the stripper. Had to use the Optical audio cable as well into this converter. This way, I was able to capture or livestream 1080p over HDMI instead of lower resolution over component.

Alternatively, it's been rumored that some HDMI matrix switchers are undocumented HDCP signal strippers, too.

Sorry, that was for anyone who really wanted to geek out for livestreaming or capturing through the devices :)

Both the LGP and Elgato have component cable support. I tried it with my PSP :)

They recommended that I ship them back the item and re-order it for $99.99. Logically that makes no sense because it'd cost Amazon more in cash to have me ship it back and then sell me a new one.

Just picked one up. These things work beautifully. The only bad news I've found is that if you try playing a Wii game on the Wii U and try changing up the saturation on the Elgato, the picture turns purple. If you leave it at default Wii games look fine. Hopefully they can do something about this.

Thank you kind sir. Anybody ever play Deadpool? The gameplay looks hilarious and I like the character but the reviews trash it.

Are the controls really that bad?

I'm a big Deadpool fan, but knew from the start it was a shallow game. I'd say $15 is good if you really like Deadpool. I considered buying for $20 before, but held off. if it goes down to $10 in the future (which it more than likely will) I'd definitely jump on it then. I'll probably get it at $15 though.

IIRC the PVR2 has a capture button on the unit; with the Elgato, it seems like you have to initiate capture through the PC. I like the concept of keeping the unit on my coffee table and just pressing the button when I want to capture something and again when I want to stop, rather than accessing my PC mouse or keyboard and navigating to the capture control. But maybe it's a different experience in reality.

It can't be that bad. Everyone pissed on Resident Evil 6 but I still enjoyed it, albeit, less than its predecessors. I'm sure I can get $5 of entertainment out of it.

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/star-trek-the-video-game

As a semi casual Trekker myself, these games are an insult. Even J.J. Abrams was complaining that their mediocrity was so bad it damaged the whole Star Trek property.
OUCH! Thanks for the heads-up. One of my nephews will play absolutely anything you put in front of him (he may not finish, but he'll give it a valiant effort - 13 years old and has a gamerscore over 150,000). The other is a little older and a little more discerning, but I don't think I'll chance it with either one.

Just ordered this for my brother. Not saying the game is amazing, but the game is pretty good and worth the money. I enjoyed the story and the game play was good. I think it gets more hate than it deserves because it's star trek.

LMAO wtf. Thank you for dissuading me out of that purchase. At my current rate of about 1 game per month, it will take me around 10 years to finish my backlog and that game is something I don't want at the end of my journey.

edit: I'm a liar I couldn't resist a game under 7 bucks .  Just picked it up after watching AngryJoe's review saying its worth it as a budget title and this is def budget.

Thank you for the Just Dance 3 deal! Honestly, I was hating on BestBuy changing @Gamer so many times but this 20% is coming in handy a lot now. I have $10 in rewards so I think it's time to reup my membership before the expiration date!

Big trek fan. Probably in for 1 ps3 copy. I have a tendency to be attracted to really bad games... I've also noticed I tend to scoff while playing bad games and mutter curses under my breath. ha!

OK, what the hell - I've heard so much about how bad this is that for $5.xx I just had to get it to see for myself. I'll bump it to the top of my backlog. At least it shouldn't take too long to play unlike the JPRG's I usually get myself into (currently: Tales of Graces f).

That game is awesome.
As for Star Trek, the more people talk about how bad it is, the more I want it. Same goes for $8 Xcom at Gamefly, they said its bad but I got it anyways. Plus its only a little over $5, you could do much worse.
