Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

How are you guys getting banned and after 130 ps2 disk only games in days, with a round 4 copies of every game in that stack, I still haven't been banned. Heck, they gave me an interview to work there.

If only we could all be so lucky to get interviews at Best Buy.
I saw the scan on a different website of next week's ad. It says 50% :(
One of my BB store reps stated the 100% had been extended as of Tues & would continue till Dec. There goal is to have tons of used games stock for the holidays & they've been surprised by the volume of games they received this time. B/C the ad is done ahead of time this would make sense that they wouldn't be able to adjust it on the fly.

My suggestion would be to dump stuff like it's ending just in case they drop it for the weekly ad then raise it later just to be safe. Not that I don't trust my source but on the fly changes can get tricky.
^^
No banning if all you did was only 2x of 1 game. Even if you did more than 1 game, I doubt they will ban you for that
Thanks.

How much does Best Buy usually offer for relatively new games? I see RE6 is worth $20 right now ($42 after 110%). Not that I dislike the game or anything, but after I beat it I probably wont play it for a good while so I was thinking I might as well trade it in now while I can get $42 and pick it back up later on when it's cheaper. Does BB normally offer around $40 for a recent game like this? I ask because I'm wondering if the TIV will go back up once the 100% bonus is over or if I should take advantage of the value now.

$20 has been the max

Before the 100% kicked in, new games used to fetch around $25-$28 (base). Additional 50% will get you between $37.50 to $42.

A few of the biggest titles were 30 before 50% promo too, if I remember right. Might have been back when they were doing "with pre-order of X game."
Really. Which one? It seemed like all the DC and NoVa stores (except Baileys Crossroads) require receipts, but the MD locations don't.
I went to the one in Columbia Heights and they told me because it was a locked store (whatever that means), they couldn't accept my games b/c I have no proof that I bought it at Best Buy. They sent me to the one in Pentagon City, they told me the same thing, but I managed to get LA Noire, Bioshock, NCAA Football '11 and Madden '11 off my hands for a grand total of like $18.

I called the one in Wheaton, Wisconsin Avenue, and Potomac Yards and they all require a receipt. Called the one at Bailey's Crossroads and told me they didn't have to have one to trade in games, so I'm going there first thing Saturday. At this point I want to get rid of these games, get NBA 2K13, AC 3 and maybe WWE 13.

Does it say anywhere on their website that they accept games without the original case and artwork? Because like last month they said I couldn't trade in a game without the original box and art

I have traded in disc-only many times (mostly due to the recent wii buy 2 get 1 gamestop was having) and have never had a problem at all at any of the Best Buy's I frequent. Sounds like you just got a PITA employee or it could be that specific store's policy but that doesn't seem likely.

It was the store manager that told me this last time so I just said alright and drove like 30 miles the next day to trade the game in at the other best buy but I would really like to avoid having to do that again. They really should make some type of universal policy for trade ins
Since I've been trading at BB, I don't recall ever getting or seeing anything much higher than $40-45 after any promo. I could have missed something as I typically don't buy games on release week and trade them in. It's just from the misc chatter on CAG.

I got my disc-only trade accepted for two games...weird.

From my experience, the store managers are clueless when it comes to gaming, trades and deals. Either that, or they're too worried about covering their own ass.

Yeah this manager is just an asshole. One time I bought a pair of turtle beaches and when I got home, I opened them up and saw that the packaging was basically ripped apart and everything besides the headphones were missing from the box like all the extra cables and manual/warranty info. So I took them back to the store and kindly asked that they give some type of discount on another pair or at least a gift card for the inconvenience since 1.) they sold me an open-box item for full price that was missing things and 2.) made me waste gas having to drive back to the store for something they did wrong. That same manager said sorry I can't do that for you, I can only replace them. I said ok, called corporate and told them what had happened and she gladly gave me a $20 gift card and filed a complaint on that manager.

if you use the store locator, once you click on a store. Click the trade in icon under special products, and itll say whether that location accepts games without a receipt.

I don't doubt that your store manager is a PITA but that little story makes you sound like a spoiled child. They happily offered to replace them for you because it was a mistake and yet you wanted more. Do you make a habit of demanding things at any store that made a mistake?

Unless that store you frequent has a history of screwing you over, I can't find a reason to really respond like that as a customer.

As for the disc-only...yeah they should definitely accept them. In fact, my BB instructs me to trade all my collector's editions as disc only so I can keep the case because otherwise, they'd just throw out any non-OEM packaging.

Same here. I was shocked at my store's reversal. They had originally required everything: original cover art, manual and disk up through a couple months ago.
How are you guys getting banned and after 130 ps2 disk only games in days, with a round 4 copies of every game in that stack, I still haven't been banned. Heck, they gave me an interview to work there.
It was probably a ploy to get you to stop trading in games.... Probably figured they could save more money hiring you than allowing you to keep trading in crap they can't sell. :)

:applause:You get more flies with honey than with vinegar. If you end up having a history of being a difficult customer, the stores can just tell you they don't want your business and not to come back.

This is what many people who gripe to Amazon have found out first hand after their accounts have been closed for too many concessions on too many orders.

If a manager is willing to work with you and get a replacement for something, then that should be good enough. Demanding more is really just being greedy and a lil whiny you know what.

Even when I complained to Sears a while ago that their employees save for one guy were watching ESPN and no one offered to help me I didn't demand a gift card(even though the manager had offered one). All I wanted was the issue that I experienced fixed and it was as of the last time I stopped in.

lol, and he is surprised why the manager at his store is giving him a hard time. i wonder why?

I just checked the forums and the mod said that any store can deny you for whatever reason and to just go to another best buy if my best buy wouldnt accept games without the original case, so it seems I'm gonna just have to drive another 30 miles to trade in the game or i just might mail it in as I'm in no hurry to get the credit

Exactly, I understand being a CAG but being a whiny demanding CAG is a good way to make sure noone ever goes out of their way to help you. I know I've gone in there and tried to get them to PM and adjust stuff for me a lot. If they don't I say ok, well at least you tried and move on. I don't act like a 2yr old who didn't get what they wanted. And it's paid off several times already where the workers/managers will over ride stuff for me and letting me know about sweet deals I might have missed (not usually because of this site but it's a nice thought on their part)

If you mail it in through their trade-in website you don't get the 100% promotional bump though. You'd only get the base value.

Even 30 miles round trip seems a bit far unless you're getting a good chunk. 30 miles one way....uhhhh.... if you're getting some hundred$.

Trading online doesn't get you the bonus. Well, that's what I read months and months ago.

Edit: Damn. Typing too slow, again.

You guys, I don't think the manager meant he would replace the entire item. From the way that other guy said it, I think it was that the things that would be replaced were just the missing things, which means that it would still be a used product.

It actually took me pointing out and then printing up(on their printer) the one post from a mod on the BB forums stating that the @Gamer coupons were supposed to stack with sale prices. I very nicely brought it to the attention of the general manager of the store and after that whenever I had that same issue they would automatically override the system to provide the extra discount even when it would lead to a free or pennied item for me(Rocketfish Bluetooth headset that had a $20 off coupon and a $19.99 one day sale price).

Not only that but my local store is usually willing to price match Amazon AND they price matched the 2/$60 from TRU for me when I had heard of other CAG's(including another local CAG who got denied at the same store later on I believe)having trouble getting that done.

Thanks for letting me know. Yeah it's 30 miles round trip, I would never drive 60 miles to trade in one game lol

With everyone talking about bannings, I was a little concerned, because the last two times I traded something in I traded in the same games (just on different days). But traded in two games today and it was fine. Phew.

Good to hear that people aren't getting banned for trading more than 1 of the same game. I'm gonna just go ahead and do trade ME3 then and cross my fingers.
can we still trade in games saturday with the 100 percent or will it be over
If it does end on 10/06 then yeah, you can still go on Saturday and do the trade-in.

Found out like many others that my ban was reinstated and it was while trying to trade in my Iphone 4 to upgrade to the Iphone 5. The mobile rep said the ban is store wide regardless of what you're trying to trade in.
So does 100% bonus credit mean you are getting double the trade in value? Language seemed a bit odd and I wanted to make sure before I go down there.
Yes.

Ha sorry to ask such a stupid question but Ive had companies screw me on language before. Just had my second controller go crazy and need another one fast.

Edit: Anyone know if they honor the trade in value on their website? Like can I look them all up, double the total and go in and not get any surprises? All Ive got are old game, I think the most valuable was $12.

Have you tried using the reset button on the controller to see if maybe it'll resync and act normally after that? Sometimes that's all it needs.

Although it could just be that the controller needs a new battery if it's an internal one. Those are much cheaper than just buying a whole different controller and are usually fairly easy to put in.

Good call, Ill give it a shot. The issue the controller is having is that it gets random inputs, like Ill click the left stick and X and triangle will also activate, or at the menu itll all of a sudden get stuck going up then stop. Thanks for the suggestion Ill give that a go right now.

I have like a whole big box of games that I could get rid of maybe close to 100 between all three of my systems but I would rather keep them in storage than get the $2.00 a piece they are all worth.

You're quite welcome. I figure it's cheaper to try that than pay the $55 for a new controller. That's what I tried with a buddies controller before he just decided to trade it in someplace. It was acting weird like that before he got rid of it. I still think all it was was a dying battery.

Looks like that may have worked. Of course before even thinking about the reset button, I tore the whole thing apart to clean it because my girlfriend spilled wine on it a while ago so I figured it was that. I dont know if youve ever tried to put one back together but it is a chore. Looks like everythign is working fine now though. Hell of a better choice than trading in games I want to keep to get a new controller at full price. Thank again.

My bad about not checking the OP, I know better. Checked it for my first question then had a second as an after thought and didnt check.

Again you're very welcome. Glad I could help save a fellow CAG some money(or in this case trading in games to get credit to put towards a new controller).
