Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
* Apparently there is a new undocumented rule in the system that if you buy a game from BB, you must wait until the return period is over (~30 days) before being able to trade in that game. It's not listed on the website or in any of the literature, but it has been referenced by multiple reps in the consumer relations department as well as the GM (top local manager) at my local store. I complained about this and apparently they are going to try and get it documented properly on the website.
While I understand the desire to stop people from buying games and then trading them right back in, this is an idiotic rule that discourages them getting hot new titles for trade-in. You see GS do the exact opposite of this and promote the trading of brand new titles (with guaranteed values and various promos) so they get used stock to sell while a game is relatively new. In any case, Best Buy has pretty much taken care of the "buy and then turn around and trade-in tactic" the proper way by nuking values of sale and clearance games. So a rule like this, at this point, shouldn't be necessary.

Take for example what I did I with Rage. I bought it using their preorder deal, beat it in a week, then traded it back in while the value was still high and they had a bonus promo running. This was a perfectly legitimate trade - I never bought it with the intention to flip. I simply completed it and wanted to get a good value while it was worth something. If they want to have this rule then they also shouldn't take any trade-ins for games within 30 days of their release - and yet they do, so go figure that one out...

As for the rest of it, yeah, I think we have determined just from all the circumstantial evidence that the biggest factor in the bans is the volume of games (regardless of duplicates). I thought I might have been safe since I never traded all those B2G2 PS2 games from GS. Maybe that kept me around for a while longer, but in the end didn't matter too much as I did enough other stuff.
seems every game i wanted to flip dropped tiv today...
Are you not banned, or do they just override for you?
I just want ti tell everyone something rare happened to me today. I got great customer service at BB.
I always get great customer service at my local best buy. Have rarely ever had a problem, and when I do, they fix it right away.

Traded in a few games earlier this week. Uncharted 3 got me $28.xx after unlocked. Bought it for $30 shortly after it came out.

All these bullshit bans and values dropping makes me want to flip as much as possible before my inevitable ban. If I go down, its going to be guns a blazing.
As if you really needed an excuse.
This is true.... To be completely honest, I've just always wanted to say that.

just traded in on my way to work, still not banned. or they override for me, idk.
i tell them i should be banned, i just bought 3 sr3's and flipped 2 right back and then did the same thing with space marine and nintendogs last week or so. but they don't care. iv got a baby so im off the radar ;)

but xmen destiny went down 14 to 12, udraw marvel went 14 to 11, ugh, oh wells more than anywhere else i guess. acr went down too but i can try for 30@gamestop or oddly enough amazon is giving 31.50(i got it for 22 last week w rz coupon)

yep, got like 50 ps2 sports games (triplicates, b1g1f) for like $25, flipped for like 75 credit or something. and still nothing. i do volume. i do more than 3. i do buy w coupon instore, leave store, come back few hours later and flip them. idk what the deal is. im surprised. last time i was there flippn back 2 warhammers the gaming supervisor was even watching like hey you just bought those, but nothing, idk...
if anything, i can't act surprised when i am finally trade banned.
suck tho if i flipped the 2 marvel games yesterday would have made 11 more credit, oh wellz.
udraw marvel = 5 hour plat, xmen destiny = too painful to play anymore

I was going to go insane with the sports games untill the values of those dropped be 50% or more. I'm going to miss flipping those :(
While I understand the desire to stop people from buying games and then trading them right back in, this is an idiotic rule that discourages them getting hot new titles for trade-in.

Yea, I did the same for Arkham City, Uncharted 3 and Assassin's Creed, beat each within a week. This was my argument to the customer relations folks, that aside from the people that are buying just to flip - which I don't deny I did - there are still plenty of legit reasons to trade in games in a short amount of time like that.

This is STUUUUUUUUPIDDDDD!!!!!! LOL

Of course BB don't want people to buy and flip... That defeat the whole purpose of having a trade in program.. Heck if BB wanted to have used relatively new games in stock, they might as well just rip open the packaging themselves and mark it as used.. WTF would they bother giving flippers a chance to make money off of them?

Because there is a giant fucking profit margin on used games. It astonishes me how people Consistently fail to comprehend this.

can't believe I can trade in my DJ hero (game only) for $4.50, I thought it's worthless lol. and picked up Uncharted dual pack for $19.99.

Really PS2 sports game are a giant profit margin....

People aren't trading in any games of value, all the stuff being traded in is pure crap.. These are games that that you can't even pay people to play..

All those flippers aren't doing squat to increase used games sales/stock, when they are bring in basic garbage games

BB might as well just rip open some games and sell it as used, instead of getting flippers to do that for them ( they also save from letting flippers to make obscene profits )

My BB are stocked fulled of Maddens NCAA and all that EA sports games some going back to 09... You think those will ever get sold ever again? Oh and a whole bunch of Dragon Ages too...
Until BB start updating their system to only give high TIV for popular and relatively new games, and give pennies for all the other junk like GS does, they will surely go belly up.. I bet GS is probably trying to derail BB by selling their crap to flippers to sink BB

you're just embarrassing yourself at this point.

Best buy is and acts like a relic from a by gone retailing era. Now with smart phones, amazon, eBay, sd, cag, and all other deal sites and the internet in general we're in the era of guerilla consumerism. We have information and the upper hand in purchasing. There was a time we had to "buy it and like it". I'm sure most of us have all bought 500% marked up cables cause that was the only thing available back in the day.
When amazon faced the same flipping issue they adjusted TiVs and instituted limits, preserving their customers. Best buy on the other hand acted like they always have before and instituted bans thus severing customer relations. Best buy is acting like the tyrant just before being ousted in revolution. They only know one way...eliminate people with a heavy hand. They are too rigid to fix the problem or change their own regime. And too arrogant to understand that potential customers are not unlimited. They only want "the fish" type customers, but as holiday margins show, everyone's wising up. Maybe next year they'll start BF deals the Friday after Halloween and win the holiday sales race. You know those idiots have probably are leaning in that direction. That 30 day rule is insane also.

My point was about people buying new releases and trading them back in, not the profit margins of madden 06. I was responding to your point and then you started talking about something completely different.

problem is I have yet seen any new releases used games in stock at BB... All their used stuff are games 2 years or older..

I think its safe to say alot of people here are hardly trading their "new" popular games in as much as trading basic garbage games.. Its stupid for BB to sell new games cheaper then their used games or even offer TIV higher then how much they sell their new games for..
I don't know bout you but if I can score a NEW game for a little or same as a used.. I will always buy new..

The thing about these TIVs is to bring new and different faces into a store ( whether it be BB,AZ,GS etc etc. ) ... If basically they are getting the same faces coming in and basically trading what can be consider garbage, I'm pretty sure a ban is reasonable, regardless of company.

a very good article I read on forbes a couple of days ago,
http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrydownes/2012/01/02/why-best-buy-is-going-out-of-business-gradually/
I still believe they have the worst consumer service of any electronic retail chain, and not a lot of options. The company should pride itself, but oh well.

Obviously you have to give good tiv for good games and low for bad games. It's not hard to do.

You're the same genius who said that used games can't possibly come close to new games when it comes to sales. And then conveniently ignored the gamestop financials that someone posted showing they made more on used games than new. How you can only make pennies in the used game market. Right?

Enough said. No point in arguing with someone who can't even read a financial statement and thinks they know a business model.

The copies of Rage, Dead Island and Arkham City for PS3 at one of my local BB stores begs to differ with this opinion of yours. Albeit BB's game distribution model is severely skewed, since in that same store there's 5-8 copies of Red Dead Redemption, 6-8 copies of Metal Gear Solid 4 and myriad copies of Chronicles Of Riddick: Assault On Dark Athena for PS3.

Actually I traded in my copies of RAGE and Need For Speed: The Run that I had bought just a few days earlier on Black Friday to BB after trying both and hating them. Plus as I said above I've seen newer titles in stock used at BB already. Yeah. Most of the game selection is as I stated above(multiples of certain titles n not much variety), but that's more a problem with their distribution channels than anything else.

Ya most of my trades are flipps and my bb used game section sucks besides a few Arkham City's and Gears 3s, but I've trades in Skyward Sword, Arkham City, and the MGS HD Collection, so I'm not all bad.

Hahaha you brought up a good point...Maybe GS is playing smart and has B2G2 this way gs gets rid of their sport inventories and BB suffered.:applause:

1) Not everyone trades in old sports titles. I for one traded in prime games this holiday season when I finished them. These games will sell. My best buy isn't littered with old sports titles. It actually has a pretty good mix of new and old games that for the most part are titles people would pay to play (if the price was right). The new B2G2 sale will probably clean out most of my local stores stock.
2) The Best Buy "opening games" siituation you propose... If Best Buy opened up copies of a game just to discount it past what they most likely only make on the game, this would be completely pointless. Best Buy HAD nice trade values in order to pull in customers. Now they are with bonus more at reason, the profit on those more popular games i.e. CoD, GoW, Uncharted, etc will be pretty high pulling about $20-$30 profit vs the typical $5-10 on new games. Not only are they getting that small margin on the new games, they now also get the bigger margin on used games.
3) Lastly... the bannings and TIV drops are in relation to flippers (potential; for the few that think they didn't) and abusers of the system.
does anyone know how much they pay for xbox 360 controllers (white wired & wireless) and battery packs (white)?
I don't think they take then

They don't take those.

Anyone know why my used game purchases don't get the 10% discount from my GZ Unlocked membership? Is there something else the clerks have to do other than just scan my Reward Zone Card that's attached to the GZ Unlocked membership? The 10% discount works fine online, but not in store.

If you were attempting to do the b2g2, it doesn't stack in store for some reason, but it does online. So unless you need the games right now, immediately, try online first. If online doesn't have them, best you can do is try to talk to a manager, explain that it works online and nothing in the literature when you sign up and paid for gamers club unlocked mentions that the 10% off is excluded when there is a sale (obviously it would beg the question of why pay for a membership if you are going to get the same deal as everyone else). Good luck though, because you probably won't get the 10%, and probably will get the "double dip" speech. Otherwise, yes, it is supposed to take the 10% off automatically (when you scan your RZ card they get a prompt saying you are a GCU member).

So like I said, if you can, just do it online.
anyone know how long it takes to get reward certificates??
It takes a month to post your purchases, and about a week after you get enough points for it to be available online. If you opted for mail, then probably a little longer
anyone know how long it takes to get reward certificates??
Once the points that put you over the threshold clear (30 days from purchase) it usually only takes a couple of business days for the RZ point to show up.
anyone know how long it takes to get reward certificates??
Takes about 2-3 days for me once you have enough points and it auto-triggers.

Try a lot longer. More like never since they do not mail reward certificates at all anymore.
Try a lot longer. More like never since they do not mail reward certificates at all anymore.
Looks like a lot has changed since I signed up many years ago. Eh, either way it was just faster to get them digitally delivered.
I have ff xiii 2 preordered already. Can I get the bonus with the preorder reciept?
That depends. If you have a really lenient bunch of employees in your local BB, then they may let it slide so long as you do have it pre-ordered there.
I have ff xiii 2 preordered already. Can I get the bonus with the preorder reciept?
Go in and ask them to do it with your preorder confirmation and to spare you the trouble of canceling it and redoing it for the bonus. Then they'll usually do it. Otherwise cancel it and get the promo.
Anyone know if it's instant like last weeks or do you really have to preorder this time around?
You clearly didn't read the OP or the title of the thread, only my post mentioning the 60% bump so I will not answer this directly.

Bahhh BB's TIV's have been meandering downhill for a while now...I am sad because they used to actually be great but now they are like BB's, even with the 50% stuff they have. I was able to get a free 3DS + 1 game for about 15 games last summer which were all like Assassins Creed which was $9 back then with the boost...however I do think thats because they have been having ridiculous sales as of late which I am not complaining about but I would rather have a stash of credit as well ;)

hey guys, just a heads up. i think in-store B1G1 50% off on pre-owned games (under 19.99) is glitched. i bought green day rockband (7.99) and Ninja Gaiden II (9.99). after the discounts (B1G1 & GCU) my total came up to be 12.09 with Green Day Rockband at 7.19 and Ninja Gaiden II coming up as 4. As usual, YMMV and the B1G1 50% off isn't advertised in the Ad, only in store.
