Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

This is what I mean. Their search has to be at least 3 digits, so the * trick for the main site won't work for the trade site. I figured some jr high school programing phenom CAG, would have a script that would type in a few letters and record the results, then sort by price, and keep a master file to prevent duplicate entries. I know what the program has to do, but I don't know how to write it as I have only taken one programing class and it was COBOL many years ago.

Do the finger work it wont kill you, you gotta work for your flips... I see the Blockbuster people are starting to come here and dont want to work

So been away a few days, glad to see the promotion carrying on for a lil while longer. So I did my first flip ever with the one day Disney universe sale and I was surprised by how easy it was. I dont have the time to constantly be in an out of BB.but does anyone know of any good flips right now or is it stale at the moment?

Never bought a game at bbv. I actually have quite a good system (I am new to the whole flip stuff), but if everyone isn't going to work on it, it is not worth sharing. I was only asking if there was an easy way to check highest tiv or newly changed values like the amazon tracker.

If people actually got their shit together, we could have a cross reference for GS, BB, and amazon trade in prices (like I currently keep on my own) that calculates bonuses and tells you the best place to trade.

This is still good til June, just traded in a used copy of Black Ops and got $30 back. You could buy a new one with map packs for the same price. If you trade in the same game for two different systems will you get banned?? I traded in Black Ops for 360, but I want to trade in my PS3 copy as well.
Is there a way to sort BB TIVs by price? That would be really helpful.
I go to this link and search for "*" From there you can click on each platform and see them sorted by highest to lowest TIV.

With a very few exceptions, BB TIV are a total joke. 5 credit for Infamous 2, which they sell used for 34.99? 8 credit for WWE '12, which they sell used for 44.99? Even with an extra 50% added these are absolutely horrible. Can't believe people fall for these low-ball deals.

I have been looking for something like this too, thanks.

I find their values to be better than others for the most part, but I did end up trading in Infamous 2 to gamestop for $16 base on saturday since that BB TIV dropped just around when I got the platinum, so I still got more than I paid from gamefly (after buying a 99 cent PAIN character for the 30% bonus hehe). I did use that credit to pick up the marvel udraw game for cheap and that will go straight to BB after I get that platinum. Best Buy is always my first trade in choice, but sometimes you gotta go with the best TIV.
I would think with Ebay and Craigslist available, this would force stores like Gamestop and Best Buy to give better TIV, but apparently not. I guess enough people come in and give up their games for such a low credit value that they can continue this practice. I know there are instances where trading in can be advantageous, as I have traded in several times at BB when they first started their program last year. Sure looks like they are similar in bad offers on many "not brand new" games now, just like Gamestop.

Chalk this up to how folks value their time. Would you rather walk into BBY/GS with a stack of old games and walk out with a new one or sell the games separately on eBay for a marginal increase in return and wait a couple weeks to get what you want while PayPal clears the funds?

Once you factor in the time it takes to package and post things, the risk of a bad buyer/shipping damage, and the delay between sale and funds actually hitting your PayPal account, all but the skeeziest, most undervalued trades end up being better than eBay for a lot of people. And Craigslist? Don't even get me started. I get a seemingly never ending steam of scam spam asking me to ship to "my cousin in the merchant marine" or "nephew in Mozambique" every time I put something on Craigslist. Finally find an apparent non-scammer to meet for a sale? Great. It's 50/50 that they'll show as promised. Huge PITA.

Too bad you've had bad luck with Craigslist. I've sold lots of stuff on Craigslist, including dozens of games over the past few years. I always try Craigslist first, ebay second (BIN price and 10% below that for opening bid), then if those fail to get me the price I want, trade-in at one of these retailers is the last resort. Even then, no way I'm gonna bend over for them and give away my games for next to nothing. the TIV has to be reasonable.

I just sold Battlefield 3 for 30 bucks cash. If I had taken it to BB I would have gotten 10+5 (50% increase)= 15. I don't consider 30 CASH a "marginal" increase over 15 CREDIT. Once these TIV for games get down in the single digits, 50% increase doesn't do much. They do it this way because it sounds like you are getting a deal......50% increase on your trade sounds better on the surface than just offering you 7.50 credit for what was a 5 credit game.

One other thing is bringing in a stack of gamesto a store kinda makes you look like a loser/poor..at least makes me feel that way..lol. I do like going in and flipping a game for more than I paid, however. This is harder to do at BB since they have lowered their trade in values since what they were offering late last year.

Most Best Buy base trade in values beat amazon and GameStop so the offers make a huge difference. It's sad someone paid $30 for a used bf3, the only reason best buy has that so low is cause it's fresh off $10 deals. I've traded everywhere and best buy beats all. Hands down.

Well BB sells Battlefield 3 for 59.99 new. They had it for 20 last Monday, but that's long gone. Even on ebay BF3 regularly sells for around 30. BB gives 15 credit after the 50% bonus and Gamestop gives 16 credit. I would hope in most instances BB can beat GS, because GS is notorious for poor TIV.

Maybe its also lower since it requires an online pass?

It is lower because it was recently on sale. They do this with a lot of their fames (ie when an @gamer coupon game goes on sale) so people dont trade it back to them for profit

These situations aren't comparable. BB, GS, etc. run physical stores, which costs $. They're a middle man. They can't pay you what your game is worth. If they did, there would be no room for them to profit.

Think of it like a pawn shop. I can't give you the value of something, I can give you half, with the other half (my profit) being made in my store with my time and my customers. If you want what I would charge retail, you've got to do the work (which it sounds like you do)

I don't trade in at BB or at GS any longer, but I do like to see the values compared to Amazon (which I use exclusively now)

Convenience is king.

You're going to be better off selling recent games, sure. But take something that's old/mid-age current gen like Assassin's Creed II. $6.75 atAmazon, $9.60 after promos at Best Buy. Selling on eBay may get you $12 after shipping. That's just not a big enough delta to warrant the extra effort, in my mind.

You're usually going to be better off selling really old stuff, too. E.g., Metroid Prime will still fetch $5-8 on eBay, but gets only a buck or two from trade in programs (if its accepted at all).

A lot of people probably (correctly or incorrectly) value their time more than that extra bit they could get off of CL or ebay. Plus you have the whole "sweet I just paid 3 bucks to mail a game to somebody that has used ebay to scam me, so now I'm out the game plus 3 more dollars" deal with ebay. At least the fact that there is that risk may make it something people don't want to have to deal with.
A lot of cags are like the dudes on Pawn Stars than upon finding out their item is worth $500 retail, ask for $500. And Rick laughs at them.
It's shocking (at first) and then it isn't (once you remember the ridiculousness of the human species)

Yeah, I value my time. Takes me about 1 minute to list on ebay or CL while in my comfortable chair and maybe 30 seconds to walk to my mailbox. I've gone to Best Buy before and waited 15 minutes just to get somebody to the game area who could process my trade ins. It usually takes them longer than it should to actually get it finished, as well. And all that to get bent over for store credit...lol

BB credit is just as good as cash. It all depend on where to get the best value for your games. Doubt you can get $38.4 for mw3 on CL or ebay. Only game that I preferred ebay over BB are those blops prestige.

I go to this link and search for "*" From there you can click on each platform and see them sorted by highest to lowest TIV.
Thank you! I am officially slow. I even mentioned this method in my post, but I was trying it on the other trade in page. :dunce:

Wow, $14 for the regular edition of PS3 Mortal Kombat without the 50% bonus. I am so gonna get on that tomorrow so I can get a Amazon GC so I can get Diablo 3.

It seems kinda pointless considering that I could order Diablo 3 from Best Buy but I would rather have it shipped to my house on Tuesday with my prime.

I bought a used game at GS (thanks to another cag's tip), traded it to BB, and noticed there was a BB used sticker under the GS sticker...circle of life.

Does anyone know if the dlc packaged with black ops is a voucher or is it on the disc?

If it is a voucher, you could buy the game new at bb for 29.99 and trade it back in for $32 (which is basically a break even for xbox 360), but you could keep the $15 dlc.
Is the 50 percent still active or did it expire Saturday?
still active at least another week, no preorder needed.

Picked up MGS:HD for $10 after trading in AC:Brotherhood and them letting me use the $10 off pre owned coupon even though I forgot to bring it.

I got $12.80 (with unlocked) after the 50% bonus. $8 base. And to repeat, do not need to preorder a game to get the promo.

Blockbuster was great last fall during that 3/$15 5/$30 dealie. But if only I had waited I coulda got the 5 packs I bought for $25 instead of $30 a pop.:whistle2:#
They had sales on BOTH inFamous 2(new Hero edition was $35 or so, pre-owned was a DOTD or DOTW a while ago for cheaper too) AND WWE '12 after their @Gamer coupons. So it's likely that the TIV's never rebounded after those sales ended.

Ebay/Glyde vs Craigslist is another argument, the first is usually quick, but the latter can be difficult, and time consuming. Craigslist might get you the most money, as the original poster said, but if you are selling 10+ games, that could be hours of effort, as well as a 60% success rate. Ebay might take an hour or two (including $ from getting S/H supplies) but has maybe an 85% rate. Going into a store that has everything on site might take a half hour, but you walk with your next purchase you would have gone to get anyway, and its 98% guaranteed.

Question about reward zone points for trade-ins. Are we only suppose to get the reward zone point equivalent of the base trade-in value or is it suppose to be the total trade-in value?
Question about reward zone points for trade-ins. Are we only suppose to get the reward zone point equivalent of the base trade-in value or is it suppose to be the total trade-in value?
Excluding any RZ promotions, just the base for trade-ins.

But I think GCU also get double RZ for trade-ins.

you get the base (x2 if you're gcu)

so for example, if you trade in mw3 (base 24) you will get 38.4 for it (50%+10%gcu) but 48 rz points
