Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Weirdly enough, BB wouldn't let me have the option of picking up the Steelbook when I pre-ordered it (online).

:(

i believe he used his girl's ID and his GCU account.

so what are some good flips right now? Already flipped MW3 twice so need something new. Want to build some credit up for these upcoming games.

Amazon has a $10 credit on both Borderlands 2 & Ghost Recon, both of the games I would have liked. I feel like I'll just have to preorder and then cancel on the spot. Also, the last time I went up to Best Buy they did have Prototype 2 steelbooks so assuming I can pick one of those up at the time of my preorder, I'll just preorder that.

And you should get the free poster in store too. The steelbooks are not in store though.

EDIT: and the mag has Kid Icarus cards in it.

I'm still unbanned. Just got back. Did some small Microcenter to Best Buy transfer credit trade for some Skylanders.

50%(60%) didn't hurt.

May just have to stop in and ask the girls to do a test trade-in for me. I'm almost out of Best Buy gift cards...

OP updated. Changed the "promo" font color, so many we can stop complaining about the mobile version of the site.

Quick question for those of you that got silver membersship. How did that happen? Did you use your BB GC to buy GCs to other stores? I've only gotten $6 in credit for my "silver status" and I think that is because I bought a subscription to Gamers Club.

that shade of yellow is very aggressive and hurts my eyes. Change it to an grey-ish color. I demand you conform to my every request. Even if all i had to do was switch to the full site from the mobile version by pressing one button.
No problem today getting this promo.

Clerk forgot to put my Rz number in for the preorder. Arggh.
They did the same thing with my Max Payne pre-order. When I told them to fix it they said to just do it at home on their Reward Zone website.

I know I personally just spend a crapload of money there, always (and only) when there's a sick sale, coupon, or glitch (just like a lot of CAG's). Yes, I'm the proverbial 'devil customer' in their classic definition, yet I spent $1000's there each year, and they keep rewarding me for it! :)
can you combine preorders later? like combine 2 5 dollar ones so i can have 10 on something?
i think you'd basically just cancel the one and put the 5 towards the other one.
They did the same thing with my Max Payne pre-order. When I told them to fix it they said to just do it at home on their Reward Zone website.
Yeah. I'm not sure that will work with the 20$ gift card but didn't feel like arguing.
Quick question for those of you that got silver membersship. How did that happen? Did you use your BB GC to buy GCs to other stores? I've only gotten $6 in credit for my "silver status" and I think that is because I bought a subscription to Gamers Club.
I'm still completely dumbfounded as to how I got silver on not one but both accounts I have with BB. I have my main account and the one I made when I forgot my log-in info that I only used to make online purchases with.

Why wouldn't it work? The same thing happened to me with my Max Panye 3 order so I just added it to my account through their RZ site. Its now pending under my purchases. I had to do the same thing with the pre-order 5 deal as well and I still got my cert at the end with no problems.

That's good to know.

i only spent giftcards at bestbuy for the last year. i picked up alot of games and amazon cards and i ended up getting silver.

also i just threw away those kid icarus cards from the @gamer mag, lol. are they actually worth anything or anyway to 'give' them to you guys online?

also i grabbed a few mini flips just to get a lil more credit. hoping to beat/plat the games in time this week. im so freakn lazy and just play yakuza/mw3 lately.

You must have got silver from the amazon cards then, since BB gcs don't count towards the total. I bought like 15 games in the past 2 months (with tradein credit) and I have $6 spent for silver.

Amazon cards don't work either.

Consolidating BBGC's will get you to silver though.

That still doesn't explain the second RZ account I have getting RZ Silver though. The only purchase I made on it this year was those Black Ops Prestige bundles and that was last summer sometime. I think I spent around $150 or so then.

Since then I haven't used that account for anything, yet I still got the bump. Maybe it's BB's way of trying to entice some customers who don't make a lot of purchases into buying more stuff due to the RZ Silver benefits?

I knew they had to have been starting another 50% deal or something, I logged on today to check TiV and nearly every one I had looked at the previous day dropped!

all my tivs stayed the same. fingers crossed.

and nope. didnt consolidate giftcards at all. idky but i got silver.
i know you dont earn points with giftcards, but you must earn silver. that's the only reason i would have it cuz i spent $0 and my friends using my phone # didnt spend anything over like 100.

also seems you can get a free rental from nba 2k11 preowned @ bestbuy and play for a few days then flip back for some free rz points.

now worth the hassle for me tho, especially for a sports game, lol

ooh also amazon gives 10.80 for 360 version. you would need it complete tho. not like this is big money tho
lol, it's 9.75 total for instore pickup. i might as well just buy amazon credit if im only making a dollar. haha
i keep trying tho! PERSEVERANCE

Went in today to trade in some games and i got 39 for base and 19 for promo but they couldn't or didn't know how to add the 10% for unlocked. I don't know how to pull it up or i would have told them.

Actually, you don't have to earn it. Best Buy dishes out free 1 year Silver memberships on lottery to just give Reward Zone members a taste of what it is like. I am Silver now and legitimately earned it. The first time I got it though, was the same way you got it...by good fortune. When the year is up, it will revert and they will send you a new card...the standard one...unless you meet the buying threshold.

I took my cards, put em with the 3 from Nintendo club and netted like $13 on eBay. Lots of bids for them. I was fine with that.

Best buy has FFXIII-2 at $16 TIV so over $25 with promos for those who may have mastered since getting it for $15.
You either have to have them scan your RZ card or look up your info via the phone number linked to your Reward Zone card.
I tried telling them that, but they wouldn't listen. They kept insisting that it would have appeared as an offer or something. I had to go with Customer service since i was with the wife and kids (2yrs and a 2mo old) and the guy at the gaming site was out to lunch. Is there any way i can get the adjusted amount and the points, its an extra 5 bucks in rz points damn it.

They dropped it to 10 right after the deal unless it's back up again?

Out of curiosity, what is everybody's experience when doing a return/exchange when you paid for part of the item with a RZC?

Both times I've done this I was told the RZC is refunded back to your RZ account. Both times that didn't happen and then I was told by RZ CS that you just completely lose it. First time they credited me "anyway", this I'm still waiting to hear back. What ticks me off this time is that not only did I buy two things so that RZC could have been counted to the other...but I bought a preowned DS game that was faulty so it wasn't even my fault that I had to return it! Plus it was a $20 cert! Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll credit me that back plus some more...

It gets credited back to your account in 3-5 business days, as the amount of points proportional to the dollar amount of the cert's refund.

So, if you get $5 back on the return, 250 points go back to your account. $3, 150 points.

If they told you that you lose the RZ cert money, they're completely wrong.

I've been told by numerous CSRs at multiple locations that I'd get my points credited back to me in 30 days.

I had recently used $210 in RZC towards a laptop. That is why I asked them the "return" question.

Well I was told in-store both times that it would be a "few days". But then by the RZCR I was told "about 30 days". Which is why I kinda threw a fit the first time and was lucky enough they just refunded me immediately.

This time I emailed them again and still waiting to see what they say. I get the 30 day thing to keep you within the return period for adding the points...but 30 days for a return (especially when it was due to a faulty item) is pretty crazy.
Anyone trade in King of Fighters XIII to Best Buy? For some reason it's not showing up in their inventory.
Why would you go and do that? You better keep it.....but to be serious, not sure. I really only go by what the site says cause if you bring something not listed, probably not listed in their system. And if it's not in their system, they will only give you a dollar. Not worth taking with me just to find out.

You maybe able to do something. Go to Best Buy's forum. There is a section for Rewards Zone help. Find a mod (I think Mike is the main guy in that section. Name would be like BBY-Mike) and PM them. You'll have to supply your Trade-In receipt /paper just in case cause if they didn't bring up your account, they won't be able to look for it. Just tell the situation that you tried to let them know to look up your count but they weren't having it. They may be able to help in some way.

Warning though that it may take some time to get back to you. They are people at jobs and can get busy. It has been super busy on the RZ section with a good amount of people not receiving ME3 giftcards. I suggest you do it cause if it's true that they didn't use your RZ account for the trade in that you're most likely losing out on getting points for trading it. I'm currently talking to them about this too cause I traded something in and not showing on my RZ account. Most likely they probably will be able to credit you the points you deserve cause I've never heard of anybody with proof not being compensated.

Best way around it is to have someone do it as an return/rebuy on the same transaction so the points aren't put in limbo until they appear back in your account.

I thought I was avoiding it by exchanging it and putting it straight towards another item rather than a straight return...sadly that didn't work. How would you have them do a "return, rebuy"?
