Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

i get why ur mad, but i dont think its fair to dis bestbuy as a whole and everyone they employ..especially since best buy has hooked us up with some incredible deals and ive actually become pretty good friends with the employees at my store.

now, if u wanna say that all the employees at this particular best buy are a bunch of asshats, then by all means...

I need to but I live 5 minutes from this, and the other one is 20-45minutes away depending on traffic.
That's what I mean. Trust me I know not everyone is this way, but since I live by this store it kind of screws me lol.
I have to pay tax on Amazon. So 550 + tax for me.
Ouch, so yeah probably go with a pre-paid visa and hit up the nearest apple store?
Or ask them if they have any open box ipads. (discounted of course)
You can still return them if you find anything wrong with it.

Sorry about your shitty BB though.
I just think you have to not be a self centered entitled idiot to enjoy Best Buy.

I have found many many many profitable deals there.

From low priced CE's, to Move Sharpshooter bundles at $59, to $5 blu-rays...

I just don't understand some of the hate. Don't buy TV's and computers from them and you'll be fine.

I think the only ones who have problems are the ones who expect to make 50 million return rebuys and expect each one to go smoothly.
I rarely buy movies/music anymore and also rarely buy games from them outside of the @Gamer deals. Moreover, I have practically never bought bigger items(TV's) from them.

As for the returns, I used to be a very indecisive shopper. But between gas going up and that no returns for 90 days thing I haven't done that many as of late.

I make a point to almost never return anything I buy if I buy it to resell in the first place.

I live in a small area and only have one of every (Walmart, Target, TRU, Best Buy) and the next closest are over 90 miles away except for Walmart.

I think making frequent returns is the fastest way you can get one a stores shit list. IMO unless the item is defective you look like a douche returning items all the time and where I only have one of all these stores I'm alway seeing the same employees.

What I imagine happens with a lot of people is they'll buy something and trade or sell it and then see a $5 price drop a week later go return rebuy and then 30 days later it drops again so they return rebuy and the majority of the transactions they do at Best Buy happen at CSR.
Just thought I mention that The Black Eyed Peas Experience for 360 is trading in for $16 base and is $9.99 after the $20 coupon @ Target. Actually a better value than AC: Revelations before the TIV dropped.
Thank you for mentioning this as I needed 1 more trade in game. I had picked out all the games i actually wanted to own but still had 2 old games i didnt want. It was nice to get the most bang for my buck. I would have never have thought to look at this game for that kind of trade in value

And Hi everyone =) I lurk a lot more than I post but this is one of my favorite threads. So Props to everyone who posts and makes this thread so useful

Fliptastic flipping today at Best Buy

Total with 60% was 86.xx

The top three games I paid 30 for total and conviction I got for next to nothing as well. Made out with around 50 in profit
Okay i was waiting for my trades to go through that my wife did for me so i can post my flip list; its mostly just 1:1 with the 50% and a little bit extra if you can do the 60%. When i traded in a couple i made 10 bucks extra and when i traded a longer pile i made 20 extra. If you do the entire list you should be able to pull off at least 30 - 50 extra. And by the way its GS to BB. Meaning you buy at GameStop and trade to Best Buy in case you didn't know.

Thanks a ton for this - I have some GS credit that I would like to convert to BB, and this looks like it will do the trick! :)

Trade in Deus Ex Human Revolution(PS3) for base 10 and Bulletstorm(PS3) base 6. got 24 after bonus. Good price for bulletstorm if you picked it up last month for 5 bucks at BB. Sucks that they couldn't put this amount into a Gift card I already had, now I have 2 BB gift cards.

Looks like Skyrim has a TIV of $36 and without any DLC on the horizon, looks like it's finally time to get rid of it. I know I can eventually spend that money on something immediately but there is nothing I want right now.

this is off topic..but has anyone else noticed theyre getting points for purchases used with a gift card? i went from like 400 pending points to 600

They implemented this in February if I remember correctly.
It's not a fluke, if that's what you are wondering.

I don't think you get points for buying with a gift card. You know get points for trading in games. I checked and I haven't got any points for buying with a gift card.

I am.
It's still a purchase.
Although I'm having trouble with the online buys I've been linking.
for some reason my RZ account doesn't link with my online purchases so I have to do it manually.

which sucks cause there is a limit. I'll probably call in CS eventually and have them do it for me.

Mine is kinda messed up. I bought Prototype 2 and a movie and returned them to rebuy them with giftcards. And I think they forgot one of my purchases. I'll wait for it to clear before I add it.

You shouldn't get getting points for redeeming gift cards though. You should only get the points for buying the gift cards; otherwise people could double dip and anytime they wanted to buy something at BB they would first buy a gift card for that amount to get points and then redeem the gift card for the item they wanted to get a second set of points

Idk. I always remember it being stated that using Gift Cards did not reward you with points. I tried looking for it in their FAQS but since the site layout change I find it harder to find things. I never got points from GC purchases.

And I bought one thing online and had trouble linking too. Weird.

Wait, what?
I said nothing about redeeming gift cards. (cause I have no idea)
I only said purchases made with gift cards.

Edit: Ooooh I get it. Purchasing Gift Cards and utilizing said Gift Cards. (choice in words got everything mixed up)
I don't know then?
I've been only using GC this whole month and my purchases have points pending.
Do they count when you purchase gift cards though?

I don't know. You could be right; maybe they have it set up so you get points when you use the gift cards rather then when you initially buy them.

Don't forget that you're also getting points for trade transactions now too. So that may be why some of you are seeing RZ certificates popping up now.

For example:

On my account, I have one $5 RZ certificate right now. I also have 100+ points and almost 200 that're pending right now.

Some gift card transactions may give you RZ points while others may not. I know I have some with 4-6 points for a small portion of the total purchase, while others are 0's across the board. Some others give me full RZ points too. Their system is just weird.

Sounds like something fun to do, but a terrible way to find out you're banned. hmmm...

That's why I kept doing single game trades every so often. I'd bring in one game as a test trade and once I knew I wasn't banned I'd bring in the rest of my stack(s).

Found a random single Dark Souls Collectors Edition, which had the same sku as the regular game, so i got it for $39.99

More that i wouldve liked to pay but just such a random find, I couldnt pass

Never been big with trading games, but this 50% is just too good to pass up, guess I'll be heading there tomorrow with Mass Effect 3 before the game plummets even more.
Anyone know to an extent what the message is when you get banned because I think I just did? The CSR said he had never seen that message before though so I'm not sure. He gave me a phone number and said I needed to contact Asset Protection tomorrow because they were already closed. I was still able to do my trade in (he did it under the store trade in ID or something of that nature) If I did, I went out with my biggest flip every. They must have knew I was coming LOL.
Looks like you and I got banned at the same time then. ;) Did you receive this message:

Cannot proceed with this transaction

if so, I'm pretty sure we're banned, though I wasn't fortunate enough for the employee to let me do one last trade like yours let you do. I was able to trade in 2 weeks ago but found out today that I was banned so it is the reverse of DCPinoy's unbanning. It was fun while it lasted at least.

What is the next step for those that were banned though? is it to cash out all the preorders that I made since it seems to be the last thing I can do to put the thumbscrews on bestbuy.

It looks like your trade in credit (pre bonuses) count toward your silver status bar as well. Which is awesome since I doubt I'll spend $2500 to keep my silver this year.

I would probably get banned if I hit $2500 in prebonus trade-ins. lol

You would think BBY would want people to double dip because once someone spends money on a gift card it's BBY money. You can't return a gift card and get cash back like when you just return an item.

But I to have noticed I've been getting a lot more pending points wahoo!!

Just thought I'd share my story from yesterday:

I walked into the store and was directed back to the game counter for my trade-ins. I had about 22 games with me, but a couple of them had the "not for resale" tag on the back. The salesperson said that they didn't take those games and, after continuing to push the matter, he told me that I'd have to take them to customer service. I went up to the service desk and the woman there paged back to the game counter and told him that, yes, they could take those games, but that he would have to look them up in the system instead of scanning them. I walked back to the game counter and asked the guy who was helping me if he had received the message to which he responed, "yes, but I'm still not doing it". At that point I went back to the customer service desk and told the woman there that someone needed to go back and help this guy because he was refusing to take the trades. She walked back with me and attempted to help him finish the transaction at which point he walked off (ignoring her when she called him back). She then said that she would have to clear out his transaction and start over, which was fine. She put in all my games again and said that my total came out to $244 (I had estimated my trades on the website the night before and was expecting about $120 before the extra 50%). I asked her if she was sure if she cleared out all the games from the other guy's transaction because that seemed like a lot more than I was expecting to receive and she said, "yeah, you just had some that were worth a lot. Your total with the bonus should come out to $366, does that sound good to you?". Of course I said yes; I wondered if somehow their website's trade estimator wasn't up to date or something, so I didn't want to argue with such an awesome deal. She swiped the gift card, had me sign off, and finished the deal. After that I went and bought my new iPad, which is what I was trading the games in for in the first place.

When I got home last night I was going over the receipt and saw that all the games the other associate had entered into the computer were indeed still counted in with the trade. So I got almost double trade in value, plus the extra 50%.

Now i'm an honest guy, but after having the first guy be so completely rude and storm off while helping me, I don't feel so bad about the situation. I also even asked the second associate to double check her work to make sure the first transaction wasn't still in the computer when I thought the estimate was too high, and even after calling her on it she didn't take the time to check. Though I kind of wondered if she did actually see it and left it as it was to make up for the first guy's behavior.

Has anyone else ever had a similar experience? How would you react?

LMAO. I called the number I got from BB yesterday regarding my trade account. He said its a new thing because people were abusing the system trading in multiples of the same game. He said that they arent taking trade in at the store level anymore for video games and if i wanted to trade in games I could do so thru the website. Anyone believe that? I might try it out but will I get the bonuses is the question?

Per the terms. Once a transaction is complete. Nothing can be done.

It was the associates fault, and nothing can be done about it.

I'd go back and tell them. 1. I'm honest. 2. Since games were left on there, it appears that you exceeded the 1 game per year rule and could be banned. So this could be your last trade. If that money is worth it, by all means enjoy it.

while i agree with this, I doubt they'd even know how to void out the trade in. And the ban is given at the corporate level so they wouldn't be able to change/ affect it.

I thought the same thing. Even if I DID go back, they probably couldn't do anything after the fact. I tried to have her double check the transaction while I was there and she didn't, so after that I don't think its my responsibilty. I was up front and honest with her when I said that the numbers didn't sound right, I'm not gonna argue for less money.

So any other good flips from the Target deal that people have found? The ones for 10 bucks after coupon and with good TIV at Best Buy are (all TIV is base)

Black Eyed Peas Experience - 16
Sonic Generations - 16
Rayman - 13
