Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
ya you pointed this one out to me the other day and I took advantage of that one haha. Any other ones you know about?
Nah, I did 2 trades from the Target thing and called it a day.
So any other good flips from the Target deal that people have found? The ones for 10 bucks after coupon and with good TIV at Best Buy are (all TIV is base)
Uncharted 3 - 18
Modnation Racers - 16
Black Eyed Peas Experience - 16
Sonic Generations - 16
Rayman - 13
Aw, crap--if I had known Modnation Racers' TIV was so high, I would have gotten that instead of a :ps3: copy of Rayman Origins ($12 base)...that's a $6.40 difference. #-o

Oh well, c'est la vie. :D

Not sure what's wrong with my phone I can access any other page right now. Can some tell me when does the 50% bonus end? In essence it's 60% with gcu correct?

So I recently bought Uncharted 3 from target for $10 with their trade in promotion. The game is sealed. If I show them a receipt will it matter? ( it'll show I bought it for $10 )

Should I just unwrap it and then trade it in?
What's the best option?

i hope so even still im going to try and get there tomorrow before values drop. thanks for the reply.

Hmm. I am not getting the proper bonus points. My silver meter is only at $40, though I have bought over $300 in games (using bb gcs though). My pending points did jump to 345 today though, but it still seems low.

You don't get RZ points on purchases made with gift cards. You do get double RZ points for trade-ins now though, so that might be what you see...
A few reported they were told in store it will repeat through June. Will it happen? Who knows?
Yeah, I was told 6/2 (he was as surprised as I was) when he read the promo to be sure I wanted to select it.
some are saying june, safest guess would be they'll run it for as long as gs is running their 50% bonus tiv towards used purchases promo.
My BB told me 6/2 is what the Promo Details says.
Asked yesterday when the 50% promo ends computer told him June 2nd. We were both suprised
Had a successful trade in to confirm that my ban was removed. Although for some reason I didn't get the 10% bump for GCU. It was a dollar difference anyways.

Quick question though, don't the trade in papers usually have our name and info on them? My trade in papers didn't.
Just thought I'd share my story from yesterday:

I walked into the store and was directed back to the game counter for my trade-ins. I had about 22 games with me, but a couple of them had the "not for resale" tag on the back. The salesperson said that they didn't take those games and, after continuing to push the matter, he told me that I'd have to take them to customer service. I went up to the service desk and the woman there paged back to the game counter and told him that, yes, they could take those games, but that he would have to look them up in the system instead of scanning them. I walked back to the game counter and asked the guy who was helping me if he had received the message to which he responed, "yes, but I'm still not doing it". At that point I went back to the customer service desk and told the woman there that someone needed to go back and help this guy because he was refusing to take the trades. She walked back with me and attempted to help him finish the transaction at which point he walked off (ignoring her when she called him back). She then said that she would have to clear out his transaction and start over, which was fine. She put in all my games again and said that my total came out to $244 (I had estimated my trades on the website the night before and was expecting about $120 before the extra 50%). I asked her if she was sure if she cleared out all the games from the other guy's transaction because that seemed like a lot more than I was expecting to receive and she said, "yeah, you just had some that were worth a lot. Your total with the bonus should come out to $366, does that sound good to you?". Of course I said yes; I wondered if somehow their website's trade estimator wasn't up to date or something, so I didn't want to argue with such an awesome deal. She swiped the gift card, had me sign off, and finished the deal. After that I went and bought my new iPad, which is what I was trading the games in for in the first place.

When I got home last night I was going over the receipt and saw that all the games the other associate had entered into the computer were indeed still counted in with the trade. So I got almost double trade in value, plus the extra 50%.

Now i'm an honest guy, but after having the first guy be so completely rude and storm off while helping me, I don't feel so bad about the situation. I also even asked the second associate to double check her work to make sure the first transaction wasn't still in the computer when I thought the estimate was too high, and even after calling her on it she didn't take the time to check. Though I kind of wondered if she did actually see it and left it as it was to make up for the first guy's behavior.

Has anyone else ever had a similar experience? How would you react?
Awesome score dude. I probably would've done the same thing, and you did give them a chance to get it right, which they refused.

Anyways, as for the "not for resale" games, I've never had Best Buy accept those. It seems to me that the first associate who did your trade-in was correct to not accept them, since it falls in line with my experiences. Now all I do is take the "not for resale" games out of the case before I trade them in.

Double games may get you banned. I wouldn't be able to rest knowing she gave too much store credit.

Plus, that trade is, probably, under her employee code.

Regardless of how the guy reacted, the woman seems nice and she made a mistake.

The problem now is when they account for the games traded in... they will only account the 22 you actually tradein and will look for the other 22 in the transaction sheet. The 2nd employee who finished your transaction will probably be sanctioned or something.

The only question is... since the system recorded and recognized trades of 2 of each games... will that trigger a ban? I hope not.

EDIT: posted late... ChunLiBarbie beat me to it...hehe!

It's just a case of them being too lazy to look them up manually. I've been trading "Not For Resale" games since the program began and as long as they know what they're doing on the system it should be a non issue to look them up. It takes all of 20 seconds(at most) to find games on there.

Damn... Was going to trade U3 in to GS and then get some cheapie games that traded in close to even, but I was too damn lazy, so I just traded in a second U3 to BB... If it gets me banned, it gets me banned. As few games as I buy anymore and as few times as I flip during the year, it won't be much of an inconvenience.

I was told today about the whole 1 title per person per year policy. He actually went as far as to say there was a limit of 60 total per year and the system would freeze an account, not allowing any more trade ins. He was going off of memory and was not sure of the limit total, but said he was reading up on it the other day. He also said there is now a limit on the number of games to be traded in on 1 transaction. He also couldn't remember the exact number, but it sounds like alot (30+?).

lol. wtf...

well guess I'll find out if I'm banned tomorrow. Have to be in the area anyway, might as well try to trade some stuff in.

Trade-in limits outside of the 1 per title per person per year? That's funny. If BB is ever to truly compete with GS, they have to be willing to take anything and everything people will throw at them for trade, even if it means some folks are doing a LOT of trading to them.

Never knew they had a limit per title either. Does it count as 2 different titles if you trade in a 360 version and a PS3 version of the same title?

It should since it's seperate versions on seperate consoles.

The question is if it's retroactive or not. Cause that would be shitty of them to edit their policy and ban traders due to something they had already done.

I'm pretty sure a bunch of people were banned and they only found out why recently after inquiring and/or employees finding out themselves. So, it's always been retroactive...

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but does BBY treat collector's editions of games any different than standard?

I'd like to get rid of MW3 Hardened, but if they're only going to give me $24 (+50%, +10% Unlocked), I'd rather just give them disc only and try my luck at selling the Elite pass and Hardened content separately.
A month ago I traded in Uncharted 3. Today I traded in another one. There were no problems of any kind.
I don't think that's how it works. Though, I find it messy that they don't reject the game. From what I've been reading.....they allow first, ban later. It's, only, a trick if you don't know about it.

Neither gamestop or bb are going to give you more for the CE stuff

That's what I think got me. I was the one who actually told the local gaming reps about the change in policy from 3 copies of a game down to 1. It's actually kinda sad when you know more than the employees.:whistle2:#

How sure are you of a ban? I traded in 3 copies of the same game recently (at 3 different BB's on different days) and those are the only multiples I've traded in in months. Is it a sure thing that I'll get banned now?
