Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Unfortunately no one seems to know the trigger for the bans. Up till when I received the notice that I was banned, I had done a lot of things that others have speculated may bring about a ban.
Did you receive an email or did they tell you in person when your were trading in the games?
I get the impression that companies don't ban loyal customers i.e. those that do a lot of business with them. I think it is when you abuse the system somehow...
I been really loyal to BB this year. Am already reaching the half point & just last month. I receive there silver status card, because they said that am been a very loyal customer to there store. Hopefully nothing happen next week when am doing my trade-in.

As far as I know, there's no email that goes out when your banned. Just a banned screen popups when do try to trade and the trade is canceled. There isn't even an override button anymore.

No email. There's a screen that pops up after you reach a certain point in the trade-in transaction that says you've been flagged and they cannot proceed. There used to be an override button on that page(supposedly), but the only options for them when I had it pop up was either close the window or print the page.

I received the silver status on not one but two accounts. The one I used solely when I would order from them online and the most I spent in the past year or so with them was about $200 last summer on some of those Black Ops Prestige bundles once they hit $14.99. The other one was my main account that I did all of my trading on. But no way did I do anywhere near $2k in trades, even after they started giving RZ points for the base amount on the transactions.

As for being loyal to any one company, I go where the deals are. So if Kmart and Sears have uber cheap games(which they do right now;)), then I'll go there and spend money. I am the epitome of a cheap ass gamer and always have been. I always waited in years past until games hit 90% off or close on clearance and I rarely ever buy anything that's not on sale unless I have credit or gift cards to burn.

Anyone know if they will be updating those "hot titles" before the 50% promo ends? I'd like to trade Starhawk (online is an unbalanced mess ATM) for some stuff.

*of course without meaning to, I've just made IATCG's day because he relishes the fact that he's an awful customer. Thinks it makes his super smart and to be emulated or something. And I'm sure he'll add a few kiss my asses to his response.

The long and short of it is: "ignore every single person in this thread. nobody is telling the truth here."
Unfortunately no one seems to know the trigger for the bans. Up till when I received the notice that I was banned, I had done a lot of things that others have speculated may bring about a ban.

I had bought games and then brought them right back in to trade in the same day, I had bought pre-paid Visas and I had bought probably closer to $1000 in Kindle cards(and usually in blocks of $300+).

As others who have been banned have stated though, contacting the company monitoring their system and effectively handing out the bans is fairly useless, which is why I haven't even bothered trying to dispute my ban at all. Why should I waste my time trying to reason with people who essentially are paid to just tell people you're banned and that's it and not even want to tell me what brought about the banning.

 Abuse the system? By sticking to the programs' clearly defined limit of three per title at the time(at BB)? By having managers' approval for trading in dupes(at GS)?

At GS, I did a pre-order virtually every time I did a large trade-in and a good portion of the time I picked them up and kept them. Aside from maybe $200-300 in credit that I sold to a guy from Craigslist, I spent every last dime in credit I had with them on stuff for either my friends, family or myself.

Not only that, but everything I traded in was in MINT condition(save for a handful of multi disc and SE versions of games that I gutted and traded in disc/cart only) and able to be resold for 2-3x what they paid me in credit on the spot without having to be refurbed like a good chunk of their shit condition stuff they take in.

So if anything, I could've resold those items I sold them for thousands in real cash and not had to wait for good promos or bonuses in order to get the most I could. But anyone who just trades in what they have without fully researching what they'll get and not waiting till they will get much more for it is a dumbass.
the two highlighted parts.

for starters knowing you. this is likely you buying something that sure is best buys fault. but buying it and somehow flipping it right back for a profit. this is shady and will result in a loss of money to BB. banning you for that is entirely reasonable.

the second highlighted part is likely an extension of that. combined with B2g1 sales. again this causes BB to lose money. why would they ever continue to do business with such a person?

in short the hardcore flippers tend to abuse the system. the abuse results in companies not making money. bringing you the banhammer is within reason.

now im not saying ive never abused a system anywhere but its not constant and i dont do it often. see these 7/35 promos or 50% promos are not meant for the chronic constant flipping. well gamestop probably doesnt care too much after all used games are where they make their profit. but see companies dont want you spending gift card money constantly. they want you spending cash. cash pays bills not gift cards. and wracking up 3000 in gift card credit really doesnt make a company any money as the crap you sold them back could sit their for who knows how long.

see companies dont really like the 5 dollar gamer or customer. as they make no money on you. none at all. you are there solely to clear out stuff on clearance that makes them no money. people tend to forget this somebody has to buy it for 59.99 for anybody to make money. does everyone have to? no. but a certain percent has too. big blockbusters can usually have more people wait for the clearance sales. but odd obscure titles like catherine or asura's wrath cant wait for that as what they sell in the first 2-3 weeks is basically it. and if it tanks well publishers learn the sad hard lesson again that if its not COD,mario, zelda, or halo it wont sell. personally i had never heard of asuras wrath till that target thread lol. i would of gladly paid 60 for it day 1 in support of such a fantastic game.
After bonus am assuming.
But, thats a pretty good deal. Hope the value stays up for me.
Yea the extra 50% and 10% for RZU.

Every single person that has been banned by Best Buy has deserved it.

Some act like it's Best Buy's fault or that they can't even begin to comprehend why trading in 3 of every good flip would result in a ban when that's within the rules. Some (most?) accept it with humor and grace. Ignore the former.

yea i really wonder how you abuse the trade in system SOOOOO much as to get banned. i mean seriously thats some hardcore flipping.

dont worry im sure when amazon catches on those ban stories will be even more hilarious!!!

I mean if you trade in over $2,000 worth of games in under a year even if you followed the 3 games per console guideline I'd understand why BB would ban someone. $2,000 is a lot (especially if you are mainly trading in, due to bonuses, for more then what you paid for).

Speaking of which I just bought ME3 some I can transfer from GS Credit into BB Credit. I want GC to spend on Blu-rays next week.

Me? Terrible customer? Maybe. Devil customer? You better believe it. I am the epitome of a devil customer and I am proud of it.

I rarely buy anything at MSRP(unless I have credit/gift cards) and only go into stores to check for what I feel are deals(90% off clearance pricing, pennied guides, etc). But for every one devil customer like me, they likely have 20 saps who pay $100 for a "quality" HDMI cable, even though a $1 eBay one would do just fine for most people.

That's the thing though. I traded in tons of quality condition games for YEARS to EB Games/Babbage's and so on(before GS gobbled em all up:roll:) for pennies on the dollar compared to what I was getting for the things I was trading before my ban(s). Thing is, the dual bans from GS and BB don't really matter that much to me, since I was getting back in a 'collecting' mode. So I'll just keep everything I buy from here on out and sell them in one lot at the end of this gen like I did with the PS2/Xbox games I sold last gen.

The only thing that sickens me out of all of the years I was trading in games was thinking about what possibly happened to those mint/complete games I used to trade into EB Games and such years ago. What lil kid destroyed the manuals/artwork and gnawed on the carts/discs that I took such good care of. :whistle2:&

And that's why no one takes you seriously when it comes to these discussions.

By my logic though, once I buy those games they are my property and as such I am free to do with as I please. If I should decide to immediately trade them in, then where is the problem? Is it written in their T&C for their trading program that someone cannot buy something and then immediately trade it back in? If not, then I did nothing legally wrong.

I mean, I'm sure there's probably some sort of clause about managers' approval of trades just like GS has(and went against by my banning), but at no time during my trading period did any manager come up to me and bring up an issue regarding my volume.
the second highlighted part is likely an extension of that. combined with B2g1 sales. again this causes BB to lose money. why would they ever continue to do business with such a person?
Because I'm just plain awesome?:rofl::booty:
in short the hardcore flippers tend to abuse the system. the abuse results in companies not making money. bringing you the banhammer is within reason.
I'm still baffled how trading in to the limits of the program is 'abusing' it, but I realize that other people are entitled to their own opinion. No matter how wrong it is.:booty: Best line I ever heard though regarding my 'abuse' was from the GS reps. I was 'gaming the system'. Ahhh. I love that one.
now im not saying ive never abused a system anywhere but its not constant and i dont do it often. see these 7/35 promos or 50% promos are not meant for the chronic constant flipping. well gamestop probably doesnt care too much after all used games are where they make their profit.
Exactly. In both cases, I gave GS and BB thousands of dollars in merchandise that they could resell. Albeit in the case of BB though they still have yet to reach their full potential with the used game market, as every time I'm in a BB store most customers pass right by the used game section. Not only that but at my closest store, the PS3 used game section is on the lowest possible shelf towards the end of the PS3 section.

So unless the average customer suddenly ends up being only as tall as Herve Villechaize, no normal customer is going to see the used PS3 games at that store.
but see companies dont want you spending gift card money constantly. they want you spending cash. cash pays bills not gift cards. and wracking up 3000 in gift card credit really doesnt make a company any money as the crap you sold them back could sit their for who knows how long.
That's why stores like GS have B2G1 sales and on occasion put used games on special sale. As for only spending gc/trade credit, that's just about the ONLY way I was buying anything at these stores. I'd like to keep my real money for the important stuff, like booze and hookers.
see companies dont really like the 5 dollar gamer or customer. as they make no money on you. none at all. you are there solely to clear out stuff on clearance that makes them no money.
If they market the games on top of the marketing the publishers may do at launch on their own and do sales and/or bundles to spur sales, then they wouldn't have to clear out games for uber cheap. Just about anything outside of the big franchises(COD, GTA, Mario, Zelda, etc) has to be shoved down your throat and kept up in your face in order to stay in the minds of most consumers nowadays because let's face it the modern consumer has the attention span of a gnat.
people tend to forget this somebody has to buy it for 59.99 for anybody to make money. does everyone have to? no. but a certain percent has too. big blockbusters can usually have more people wait for the clearance sales. but odd obscure titles like catherine or asura's wrath cant wait for that as what they sell in the first 2-3 weeks is basically it. and if it tanks well publishers learn the sad hard lesson again that if its not COD,mario, zelda, or halo it wont sell.

Actually I bought Catherine day one(from Amazon, even though I had it pre-ordered at BB originally) and then rebought it recently for $30 from GS. Only reason I didn't pick up my pre-order at BB was due to their not having the artbook/soundtrack bonus available in store like it was online. That was about the only reason I really pre-ordered it there in the first place. But Amazon gave me I think either a $10 or $20 credit with it, so BB couldn't beat that on top of the no artbook/soundtrack thing.
Dude, who cares? You got banned. Why are you still derailing this thread? You no longer belong here.
Hmmmm....I don't see the word MODERATOR under your name, so you know what that means? I don't have to listen to you. So uhhhhh take that opinion of yours and shove it up your ass, along with a rusty dildo. Go get lockjaw ya fuckin' twit.
Dude, who cares? You got banned. Why are you still derailing this thread? You no longer belong here.
How exactly is it 'omg derailing the thread'? What do people normally talk about in here? Let's see....

Usually it's:

5% discussing flips from GS to BB or vice versa(even though flipping talk is taboo and normally nuked to within an inch of it's life, most of that stuff is left in here untouched)

95% people asking stupid questions already covered in the OP or that were answered a billion times already(durrrr do da promos stack wif each other cuz I wanna get 200% for my games by quadruple stacking da promos....you think that'll work?)

So basically most of this thread is begging for free information on which games to buy solely to flip or dumb shit that's been covered since this thread was first created.

Besides which, I don't see a MODERATOR title under your name so uhhhhh in the words of DX, I got two words for ya.....;)

Oh how I miss flipping. I was never banned but it's been probably 6 months at this point since my last trade in. I have a b2g1 expiring from GS that I'm not even going to use.

Flipping sure is fun, but going 6 months without some 16-year old idiots calling me a thief is nice too :)

You should just give that B2G1 to someone, so at least it gets used. Not me perse, but I'm sure someone could use it.

Just like every other facet of my life(online and off), I really didn't give a shit what people thought of me or what I was doing. If they wanted proof that I owned the items I was selling to dispel any thoughts that I had stolen the items then I would provide them upon request.

That's how the managers at GS worked with me. As long as I provided them with receipts showing where I got the items to prove ownership they were fine with my duplicates.

That's a lie. You can and always have been able to stack the 10% Gamer's Club Unlocked bonus with any promos that were running. The only thing you can't do(yet people STILL f'n ask about constantly:roll:) is stack one promo with another.
So I was told by an employee that I can't combine 50% offer with my 10% membership bonus. Is that true?
Not true. The 10% GCU is the only bonus stacks with EVERYTHING used/traded in. I just traded in games on Tuesday and the print out shows the Base Value/ the 50% bonus and the 10% GCU bonus.
Can i load up all if my credit on their visa card?
Considering there's a $200 limit on visa cards, yes.

Because i doubt "all your credit" is more than that.

Not sure if this has been covered but i didnt come across it in the OP. I live in west Texas and none of the Best Buys here take in used games like gamestop does (at least what i've been told several times). All 3 locations have told me they only take trade-ins with receipt. I'm new to this whole thing at Best Buy. I've usually avoided them due to the lack of customer service here. Since the @Gamer deals, it has been hard to resist. Thanks in advance for the answer!

if you go to best buys website and use the store locator. Once you pick a store, select store info and services and itll tell you whether that store accepts video game trade-ins from anywhere or just from best buy(receipt)

Not true. Me & my brother been trading at are local BB (staten Island, NY) & never once ask us for a receipt. The only thing they ask is a state ID or some identification for the trade.

He's actually right, the store we had only took trade in with receipts from bestbuy until they were part of the national trade in program.

This is true. My closest store only accepts games purchased from BB. They look up my account and look for the transaction.

That's why I trade at a different store. It has to do with not having some sort of trading license.

I just figured they were account linked. Somebody messaged me and I'm going to try and send it to him -- expires at the end of the month though, so we'll see!

Traded in 9 PS3 games and got $58.50 w/ the 50 % bonus,i'm cool with that. One of them was Rogue Warrior, how it still has a $5.00 value is beyond me,haha.I almost pulled the trigger on Max Payne 3 special edition,it looks nice,or Sniper Elite, but decided to wait, only walked out with a new printer cartridge .

I bought Skyrim for $30 in store credit last week from Best Buy after using the coupon...and I'm honestly bored with it. I got it for the achievements on 360 since I already beat it once on PS3, but it just has no staying power with me compared to Oblivion, which I played through 4 times. Anyway, I'll probably trade it in tomorrow while the base is still $21 and with the bonus get my money back...then maybe grab Revelations for $10.

I have a Lexmark,i looked but they seem like they go for retail prices,at least the genuine ones.Trust me i try to get things like this cheaper on ebay whenever possible.

Traded in 11 games today including Skyrim and got $149. And I think I'm finally done stocking up on games even when they're cheap unless I'm ready to play them now or "next in line." Just stupid to have games sit on your shelf losing value. They're so easy to reaquire later for less money (with the rare exception).

Do you guys know if BB can look in my account to see my online purchases? My printer crapped out on me (was going to print them out). Figure if they don't I'll just screen cap them with my phone. Hope they'll take all three of my games (put them in paper sleeves and kept the goodies.)

Going to trade in Gears of War 3 (from CE), Skyrim (from CE), and Prototype 2 (from CE).
