Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
Sorry if this was covered already, but has anyone traded in Madden 12 hall of fame? Do they give you the value of regular Madden 12 for it? That would be fine by me, but they have different UPCs and the HOF edition isn't listed on BBs site.
Ya it'd just be Madden 12s value.

Also, BB just paid me $3 to play through Bulletstorm..... :D

has anyone else had trouble getting their best buy to add the extra 10% for the gamer unlocked bonus? I've now traded in 3 times during this 100% extra promotion and every time i mention that im also supposed to get the 10% added on top of that for being a member they keep telling me that either A. they dont know what that is or B. that you don't get anything extra when they have a promotion. Shit is getting annoying that these people don't know what their doing. I even pointed it out the 2 cashiers in the little handout booklet on the benefits of paying for the membership.

Did they look up your membership? The only issue I experienced was a snag locating my account.

nope, i gave them my card and told them i was a member. She just kept messing around on the computer doing god knows what and then when she gave me the receipt i asked about the 10% again and no1 at that store seems to know. Last time i was in there i was directed to the Assistant Mgr. and he was even like "well that doesnt stack with any promotions". I just don't understand what the point of paying for something(benefits) is if your not going to actually benefit. Wondering if I can call corporate or something and figure this out.
Does anyone else not trade games and just keep them ? I do, well probably bc I'm never in a situation where I need to trade games in for credit to buy more games such a silly idea.
Looks like someone changed their tune since May 13th, when they wrote THIS gem:
Does anyone know what games i can trade in for a good flip using the B2G1 free offer
?
That post is located HERE: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9620927&postcount=163

I'm guessing that no one jumped at the chance to give you all the info you desired in that post, huh?
This is brilliant, cause that's exactly what I realized I was doing for a while. Stopped myself this time and used my credit to buy a mouse and some amazon kindle cards for a SSD. It's funny, though, because some of the cheap cheap games I bought and barely played through, I actually ended up making a few bucks on them after trading them in. I always figure buying games at $10 is pretty safe because at the very least, you can USUALLY get $5 back for them in the future, if not $10. Although games like Rage and Brink don't seem to fall under that category.
If you bought the PS3 version from them you can double what you paid right now with the 100% bonus dealie. But if you got the 360 version, then it was an $.80(plus tax) rental as the values there are $5 for PS3 and $2 for 360, so $10.50 & $4.20 after promo & GCU. Not a bad deal at all, especially if you bought them with credit in the first place.
Saving up for a new laptop. Hopefully BB starts offering the free 4GB Xbox promo soon so I can sell that online.
how much? I can pay in gs credit.
LOL, good one. btw, iatcag did you end up ordering inversion?
I didn't, though I may lock in a copy via an in-store pickup order before the next deal goes live. If I decide against getting the game, then I can always let the order expire. As it stands, I have so many unplayed games right now(about 15-20 at last count). So maybe Inversion will end up being the next Duke Nukem Forever and I can grab it for $3 later on.

Once people compared it to Gears, I immediately thought back to the last game I remembered people used that comparison with(War For Cybertron). I never finished that game since I'm a spray n pray shooter player 9 times outta 10, so if Inversion was like that I'd be using the gravity powers to hurl objects at enemies since I'd be running out of ammo constantly.:whistle2:#
nope, i gave them my card and told them i was a member.
Your store is full of idiots.

lol, i remember the war for cybertron deal from bestbuy for $4.99, i believe from last year

What a deal, I am in awe of this promotion. Can't believe the totals I saw some people getting for their trades... I have to reconsider the whole keeping my games for life vs. trading them in. Thanks for the heads up.

I posted this in the $5 cert thread, but want to ask the people here the same question. When I checked my RZ profile I noticed that I got points for a trade in I did about a month or so ago, and since then I've traded in dozens of games and haven't seen squat in my activity. Does every trade-in give you points? Or is it only during certain promotion?

Cause if I was supposed to get points for every trade-in, then I seriously missed out on hundreds of points.

Sad part is I think that was one of the games I bought at launch from GS when I still had tons of credit there. I liked the idea of the game, but the implementation was horrid imo. So linear, you were always running out of ammo and you fought clones of clones of some generic bots for the most part.

If anything I was kinda hoping some developer would eventually make a G1 game with a proper cast or at least as good as you could get since a few of the VA's who did the old toon are dead now.:whistle2:#

Anybody know if this is confirmed for all stores ending on 7/07 or just a couple?

yes I read the OP but I want to know if more than a handful of people saw the flyer.

15 games turned into $161.xx in credit, all of which were just taking up space. Took another load over to GS as the amount after bonuses was a little better on that stack, but will try to do some flipping. Or I may just buy Steam cards :D

Yeah. I just noticed that GS has Steam cards the other day when I stopped in one for chuckles. That and the other pre-paid game cards are about the only one way could really 'cash out' credit there besides outright selling the gift card w/ the credit on it on Plastic Jungle or buying stuff to flip over to BB and other places.
But do points from trade ins count towards the $2500? I did t think so.
I think so people have reported getting silver status & they don't buy alot from BB but do trade alot.

No I think that's from the pool of random silver statuses they give out every year, not anything to do with trading points.
But do points from trade ins count towards the $2500? I did t think so.
Yeah the base value for the trade does apply to the $2500 (I should say now they do). I have not purchased anything with cash this year but I have about $420 in the counter from my trades.

For those interested in a computer glitch....Rock Band Unplugged on PSP gets $4 so you will get $8 total. All other PSP games are a quarter trade in. The site has it listed as a 360 game. Just a heads up a great return on a PSP game.

Oooh. Good to know. I prob traded in $200 so far. I bet they'll change that soon enough.

Battlefield 3 dropped $1 to $13...still going to trade it tomorrow.

Ace Combat : Assault Horizon for PS3 dropped $2 to $8 but the 360 version is holding at $10 so far.

Shadows of the Damned fell $3 to $5 for the 360 (ugg!!, Guess I will hold it and play now) I think the PS3 fell $2 to $6.

Batman: Arkham City dropped to $10 (both :360: and :ps3:) according to the TIV site.

Skyrim also dropped to $15 (both :360: and :ps3:).

Glad I went Saturday afternoon; managed to get in before the drop. (note to San Jose CAGs: the Santana Row trade-in machine is still broken; they don't expect to have it fixed for at least 3 weeks)

assault horizon has been so flipped lately... it's actually a fun game...
also maybe revenge of the curse of the gamefly sales? seems they were quicker before...
and my store has batman ac on sale for 19.99 all week. might be ymmv but it's been that way since the dotd a few days ago, so maybe they are just clearing stock but like skyrim they shouldnt be offering more used than what they are selling it for new. peace
edit - just checked website and guess it's just my store. said as advertised

lol i blame u for breaking it, thx for the heads up as im going in to pick up my orders in the morning and was gonna trade in some stuff but i guess not.
Ah well, $27.30 is still good for the $15 BF3 I got from the Gamefly sale. It's not like I could have gone to BBY any earlier.
That bird looks so devious! Lmao!

I got Silver Status and I bought most of my stuff from Amazon last year, with the latest 2X points until 12/31/12 and the unlocked bonuses BB is the only store I will probably buy from this year. I have 4 in a fairly close proximity to browse so I can usually find what I want. I may reach 2500 this year easily

They nuked Assassin's Creed: Revelations down from $8 to $1. Guess that is bound to happen when BB is giving the game away free with purchases of Ghost Recon.

EDIT: Also see they dropped MW3 from $17 to $15.
are there any games worth more than $15 now?
It does not appear that way. The highlighted games are all $15 or less so I assume that means there are none above that. This promo is definitely getting worse for the new releases. There is still value in the middle tier games $5-8 but those are even starting to shrink. (By value I mean in comparison to other trades, not flipping)

Well dammit, I finished Lollipop Chainsaw last night and was gonna take it over for $36 after bonus...now with the drop it's still slightly ahead of Gamestop but shucks. And they're both around the same as Amazon.

Even for the games I don't play, I don't see why I would trade them in considering I wouldn't get much for them. I'd rather have that feeling of knowing they're in my collection.

lol, thought you guys were talking about Borderlands.

The trade-in calculator on the BB site - is it 100% on top of that, or is THAT the total value after the already added 100% bonus?
Oooh. Good to know. I prob traded in $200 so far. I bet they'll change that soon enough.
If it's not a glitch then the change was made for a purpose. I guess they figure if more people have the silver bonuses then they'll spend more to keep it. Free shipping & the 25% bonus really stands out when you haven't had it before. Also, they'll get more unlocked memberships since people will want to max out their yr.

no problem. This was actually my first trade-in at Best Buy in at least 3-4 months, so don't blame me! :D

I ended up going to Sunnyvale, although Blossom Hill should also work (you might want to call ahead to double check though; I was pissed that I wasted my time and gas going to Santana Row in the first place).

I'm still not having any luck with trading in Resistance vita. Not in the system sp they wont take it. Was hoping to get some decent money for it while the +100% is going on.

Im positive Trade ins count towards Silver status, they awarded me Silver Status for no reason (and I just spent $500 on iPad 3) but the counter claimed I spent over $1,200, not possible unless they are counting my trade ins.

But $1200 still doesn't get you silver.
