Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).
According to the mods at the BB forum it's still 3 per title per platform per year. But according to my local store it's one per title per platform per year. So apparently corporate has given stores the final say on limits.

But again, according to the people at the BB forums a while ago the official limit across the chain is what's listed in that FAQ still.
I was told in chat with BB CS today "you may be subject to banning for excessive trading activity." They would not give me any specifics as far as numbers of trades per quarter/year etc. They only quoted the "3 copies on Madden 2011 for Xbox 360 a year" limitation.

That was with BB CS and not that TRE company that handles the bannings for the trade program and the return bans?

wow this page is full of crybabies one kid called another kid family criminals

NEW USERS THIS IS CHEAPASSGAMERS

WE DON'T JUDGE OTHERS FOR WHAT THEY DO OR TELL THEM TO BREAK LAWS WE JUST INFORM THEM..PEOPLE POST DEALS AND WAYS TO MAKE MONEY AND GET GAMES BEEN THAT WAY FOR YEARS

TO THOSE PEOPLE JUDGING THE GUY FOR RETURNING STUFF TO WALMART . TRADING IN 100s PS2 GAMES TO MUTI BESTBUYS WAS NOT AGAINST THE LAW BUT IT WAS AGAINST BESTBUY RULES..JUST LIKE RETURNING STUFF TO WALMART YOU DID NOT GET FROM THERE IS SOME SAY AGAINST THE LAW BUT WALMART IS OK WITH IT AND DON'T CARE

DON'T JUDGE EACHOTHER BECAUSE WE ALL ARE DOING STUFF SOME PEOPLE CAN CALL SHADY

We can never judge the lives of others, because each person knows only their own pain and renunciation. It's one thing to feel that you are on the right path, but it's another to think that yours is the only path.

With the waves of these people? It's like the internet equivalent of the radioactive crap washing up on shore from the tsunami. Every crappy debate

oh looks like i started this because a new guy asked if it was a place to take back a game without a receipt i didn't judge or cry or get up on some internet high horse like you other losers just told him the places and the laws and went on with the topic
Just awful. Anyway it would be nice if this 100% goes more than a week so I can move more credit to cover my fall releases.
I believe earlier in the thread (Sunday morning) it was stated by at least two people the 100% goes into October, though I don't recall the exact date offhand, sorry.

edit:
The promo does run until 10/06.
I hope everyone here knows that ps3gamer35 is the one who supported kevgret in destroying the b2g2free. Ps3gamer35 then became the sole person that ruined the $10 for $50 orders. He first got everything he wanted, then ruined it for the rest of the cags. And even that was after first threatening us with physical violence.

Return fraud is a crime and it has been rightly shunned by cags. But ps3gamer35 is here for the sole purpose of destroying legitimate deals for the community. He continues to attack cags and their families with insults. Funny that nameispep and a few others have been banned for being goofballs, but he is allowed to steal our deals and insult the community without being permanently banned.

You don't want us to judge, yet you call a whole bunch of CAGs losers and crybabies. You said people are on high horses, when you are doing the exact same thing. Taking an indifferent stance like your some sort of cool uncle and mocking others who don't follow suit. Look in the mirror buddy. Somebody judging others as losers is a loser themself.
I went to a BB yesterday to trade in some crappy games with higher TIV that I expected, and got a brand new employee (his first day) who had no idea how to do tradeins. He called over another guy from the Wireless section who also had no idea, and after 30 minutes and a hell of a lot of fumbling around (and asking for my phone number about 7 times), I finally managed to get my credit... Sigh. I sort of wish one of them was a manager so I could have tried to wheedle some free credit for my time, but no dice. Although it was funny that at least 2 groups of people were waiting behind me to ask questions and gave up because the employees looked so clueless and lost on my transaction.

As for BB requiring DL, ID, or thumbprint, it's not just that it's corporate policy, it's that it's basically a pawn shop transaction, and in case of an audit they need that information (or so I was told). Gamestop did the same thing when I traded in an ipod.
It's not corporate policy. It's local law.

Cant believe that Sleeping Dogs is only at $16. Wish it would be at least $20 so I could get back $42. Oh well, ebay it is.

Is there not much replay value in sleeping dogs like Max Payne was?

I'm wondering this as well. I'm having a lot of fun though.

My goal is to platinum this if it is keeps the fun factor going.

took in skyrim, mw3, madden 11, madden 12, tekken 6, wwe legends of wrestlmania, and just dance 2. got a $126 gift card. Not a bad haul. I got 8 bucks for madden 11 which was a nice surprise. Got 12 for madden 12 which was great considering I got it on sale when it was $10. I think I'm going to clear out a bunch of the stuff I'll never touch.

I have a question for example I have El Shaddai(, I bought it from worstbuy last month for $10 brand new) for the XBOX360 on the bestbuy online estimator it says it is worth $6. So if I were to bring it into worstbuy today will I get $12 because of the 100% trade in bonus?

Yes, that's correct.

traded in oblivion, read dead redemption, grand theft auto 4, modern warfare 2, and black ops (all for ps3) and got $66 for it. Gonna wait and get the complete editions of GTA4 and RDR and I'll probably get oblivion on the pc when steam has a sale (MW2 and and BO will probably not be bought again.) Used the credit to get the @gamer subscription and used that to get KoA:R for $10 and used copy of enslaved oddesey to the west for $5. Also got Aliens Infestation for $10 since it was on clearance. Still got over $25 in credit so a very good deal in my opinion. :)

Has anyone tried to trade in a copy of New Super Mario Bros 2? It's still not on Best Buy's trade in calculator. I got an extra copy of this as a gift after I downloaded it from eshop, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to trade it in to Best Buy with the 100% bonus trade in value.
Just got back from trying to trade in and about 2/3 of my games were rejected because they weren't flawless. I stated that Best Buy refinishes them anyway and that they were not in horrible shape at all. She then told me that the store got into trouble from corporate for accepting "really" scratched games and that the store was getting charged for all the games that were unrepairable. Looks like they are cracking down...has this happened to any of you guys???
Nope. I keep my games pristine.

I never ran into this problem unless I had bought a game from someplace like Gamefly(chipped discs FTL) or Blockbuster and not really checked them that well. Although that rarely happened with a place like Blockbuster, where I would routinely have them swap out the for sale copy for one of the shelf copies if it was in better shape.

The absolute most hilarious instance of me being told that my game needed to be hit with a refurb fee was when I took a game or nine to GS and they tried tacking on a fee for a speck of motherfucking dust on the frickin' disc. I asked to see the game, wiped the dust off and handed it back to them. They then removed the refurb fee.

It all depends on who you really get at these trade-in places. But as I said before, if BB ever figures out they can disqualify games and make their company easy money by tacking on refurb fees to nearly pristine games, then we're fucked.

I took about 7 games to my BB. No issues what so ever. All my games are in great condition but they didn't even really look at the disc that hard. Just opened it up to make sure it wasn't fake and moved on. They even took my Fable III that said "Not for Resale" that they even asked if I got with my Xbox. 7 games ... $59 dollars later :) Quite happy.
Took 48 games from the GS to BB thread and got around $400 BB credit for $200 GS credit. It only took two hours and the BB and GS were right across the street.
Where is the GS to BB thread? I can't find it.

Wow. No shame whatsoever....

:applause: Good for you! :applause:

I felt shady bringing in nine games....

Does anyone know when the 100% trade in bonus really ends??? Orderd a few games on gohastings to trade in and with how slow their shipping is i dont really want to miss out on this deal to pick up a few titles for cheap...

I traded in Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare-PS3(Got for free :), got $12
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3-XBOX360-Paid $10NEW, got $12
El Shaddai-XBOX360 Paid $10NEW, got $12
Limbo/Trials HD/Splosion Man Triple Pack XBOX360 Paid $10NEW on Newegg, got $8 :( I thought it was listed at $8 on the online TIV checker but no biggie everything else offset it and I still made a slight profit.
Qubed-XBOX360 Paid $7.96 during Toy's R' US promotion, Made $8
Naruto: Clash of the Ninja Revolution 3-Wii Paid $5 for it at Fivebelow, made $8. Grand total of $60 bucks aint bad so I went and got $75 worth of Amazon Kindle Giftcards :), $15 out of pocket aint too shabby. I wanted to order Yakuza Dead Souls of Amazon.uk since its almost $25 cheaper than the US release. System wont allow to send to my address. Can anyone recommend some good jrpgs on amazon for the 360/PS3. Doe's amazon pricematch because some of the Atelier Rorona are cheaper on newegg.

I spent $32 at GS and took it all to BB for $80, along with a few of my own games for a total of $115. I may get banned but I got enough Kindle cards to pay off the Borderlands 2 ULC. fuck yea.

shame for what ? you have a lot to learn noob

Not sure if this has been asked before, but does BB sell any giftcards that can be used to purchase at Newegg? I know they sell Amazon Kindle cards. Reason is because I have a couple of BB credit and was hoping to use some of them on purchasing Guild Wars 2 over at Newegg (thanks to the $12 off promo).

Wife got denied on 2 games witch had GameStop stickers on the actual paper cover that I couldn't remove. Said they don't take games that where bought used. New one for me, next time I'll have her take them in disc only.

Strange. I left the stickers on before and they took it. Just made a comment saying, "Hey nice, looks like you're getting back more than you paid for." And I thought to myself oops.

They have prepaid visa cards, which you can put anywhere from $20-$200 on. It has an activation fee of $5.95 though. I've gotten these 3 times with $200 each already from credit. You need to register them online though so you can use them online.

Seems like a bogus statement. The game is the game. Should be predicated on the condition, especially given that they take them disk only.

yeah haha i left an 'incorrect item' sticker from half.com on a flip and the guy was like what's this. i was like yeah they denied it cuz it was a bestbuy version. lol. he just laughed and gave me my 110% tiv. ;)

It's true statement, it happened, just not to me to me before, so ymmv. She said that the employee was a noob though so maybe it was just someone that was scared to lose there job for something stupid.

Did a trade in this evening (about 12 games) and when I got home I looked at the print out of what I had traded and saw one of the games was listed as a generic trade in (50 cents).

When in fact I know the game was on the BB site listed for $7 value ($14 when doubled). I know I should have dbl checked the list I signed but I didn't.

Anything I can do about it?

Thx

Unfortunately, I don't think there's anything you can do once you sign the dotted line..

This happened to me before (I got cheated out $30 because the employee failed to tell me he was entering them as generic). I literally had to complain to a manager for half an hour to get the difference back (this was right after it had happened). Basically, from what they told me, they cannot "undo" a trade - once it's complete, it's impossible to refund. Eventually, they just gave me a giftcard with the difference.

No offense bro but you gotta do your homework. I double check the TIV of my games the day I go in and trade them. If I get told a different price for my gift card, I ask what happened right there on the spot. As for your situation, since you signed the papers there's not much you can really do.

Ah, so that's the only way then? Haven't used these cards before... and I'm kinda confused that you have to activate 'em ^_^;
