Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

Late but...

@Kingworm, I say if you're gonna do something, just complain. I wouldn't say stop going there. But yeah, complain cause they can't treat you like that. You didn't do anything wrong and you shouldn't have to feel like a villain in their store. Especially didn't need all those eyes for your girlfriend like she was gonna hurt somebody.

One thing you could do is those surveys after you buy something that are on the receipt. From my friend, they are sent to higher up people and if there is a issue, usually sent to a store manager or DM. I did it once and got a call back where I explain my problem. Only way I know how to get heard. You mentioned a friend working there? You could probably ask them the best way to file a complaint. This is what I would do.
I'm just glad I got the cute asian chick to help me out last nite :) at the Nashua,NH store.
Another NH CAG! I dont hit the Nashua BB much but last time I did the Asian chick was working as well.

kingwormer, I would file a complaint if I were you. Making your girl feel uncomfortable like that and saying you're a felon is pretty inexcusable, so if you have nothing to hide I would make some kind of report against the store, make them squirm a little bit :D

best buy gift card scratch off things are the worst. Use a coin, not a key. The last two of the PIN were wiped right off.

Literally spent at least 2 hours total, in two stores to just get the gift card cashed out and replaced.

Has anyone ever had any luck getting a trade in receipt fixed? My wife traded some games for me today and I noticed they missed one game completely, gave me credit for a DS not Wii version of another game, and of course screwed up Rock Band Unplugged. Just wondering if anyone has ever tried to get something like that fixed and had any luck. It adds up to a little over $30 but I am wondering if it will be worth my time to drive there and try to get it fixed.

Something similar (though not as bad as your situation) happened to me once:

After doing a trade-in at a BBY I don't normally visit (but was near due to running errands), I noticed that one game from the bunch I brought in hadn't been included in the transaction. I called that store the next morning and explained the situation, and thankfully the traded-in games hadn't been shipped out yet so they were able to recover the game that wasn't included and set it aside for me so I could come to Customer Service, pick up the game, and trade it in for real.

You should definitely go back to that store or try calling it, because it's not good for them if they have the games from your trade-in labeled incorrectly or not processed at all--their used game inventory will get all screwed up if you don't bring the matter to their attention. Just be patient and explain what happened (maybe even point out how it's in their best interest to help you out so their inventory doesn't get messed up) and hopefully things will work out for you. :D I can't speak for the Rock Band Unplugged aspect of your situation, though, since it sounds like they just attributed a "generic trade-in" label for that one and as such, you can't really argue for that one in terms of inventory accuracy.

It's worth a shot. I had a bunch of games ring up wrong last year, left a note with the kid who did the trade and the gaming supervisor called me back to offer to fix it. I forgot about it but she remembered when I went in a few weeks later. I think she only remembered me because I traded in so many games and she was very thankful that I chose her store. Little did she know I had brought as many games to 4 different stores LOL. She re-did the wronly credited games and did some manual adjustment to make it right and gave it to me in a normal trade card.
I was willing to suck it up as a cost of business and forgot about it but she reminded me of it when i was in there. It was maybe only $15 or so.

Just wanted to post an update on my trade in situation from last night.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9905305&postcount=4555

Went back tonight and asked to speak to a store mgr. and explained to her what happened. So she went back to the video game kiosk and looked up the game I disputed and pulled it out of the counter. She rerung it and gave me the $13 on a giftcard w/o any hesitation. Glad I did look into it, because I figured I was out that credit.

I think I will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. As for Rock Band Unplugged they gave it a generic game sku but they did type the name of the game next to it. So hopefully if I show them the correct sku they can fix it. At any rate it seems like some people have had a decent amount of success so I'll give it a try.
I guess what really irked me was, it really wasn't me using her. She was dumping off some of her crappy old Wii games. Had absolutely nothing to do with me. I even told the manager that when I confronted her. I told her it was her trading in her old games. She then said "how was I supposed to know that, we can just ban her also". I told her, maybe if you walked over and asked? Or had the people you sent over to ask, that's how you would know? She got pissed when I said this.

I am done shopping there, mainly because ofmhowmitmmade my lady feel. And yes I know the CaG "motto" lol, but that wasn't this case.... At this time. I guess I really wanted to post my experience to see if anyone had had similar situations? And or if anyone had actually gotten in trouble.

I know people on here have made way way way more than I did. So was really just trying to ease my mind, and vent, and let people know the treatment I got.
I really do recommend saying something. I know in the past I've sent in a complaint online, and through the Best Buy forums when I felt it was necessarily, and in most cases got a legitimate response. If the manager suspects you of illegal activity than she should go the proper channels of it. Treating other people that she associates with you, and bad mouthing you to her employees (clearly not knowing said employee knows you) is at the very least unprofessional and not how a manager should act.
Read the old BBY threads if you you really want the full story. You did nothing illegal, so why are you even worried? "A clear and innocent conscience fears nothing." The employees saw something they deemed bad right in front of their eyes and are powerless to do anything about it. So they say some stupid shit to deter you. They aren't handling it the best way, but they are just trying to protect their company. You really want them to potentially lose their jobs over it? They're not bad people. You know the reasons behind their actions. They aren't haphazardly fucking over random customers. Oh wait, you prefer indifferent, glassy-eyed employees who just go through the motions ringing you up. The ones that don't ask questions or are incapable of being pro-active. Those employees are great, aren't they?
Hardly what anyone is saying. Her behavior would be unacceptable even as a standard blue-shirt employee, but as a manager she is also setting an example for her store and employees. Again, there are proper channels she should be going through if she suspects illegal activity, falsely stating that a customer is a felon (in a manner that makes it appear she knows this to be a fact) and going on about a customer to her employees as she supposedly did, as well as the way she treated the girlfriend is completely and totally unacceptable from a manager level. Let me tell you, employees who have managers that are dicks to employees rarely give amazing customer service themselves.

Also, gave it a shot yesterday and I'm still banned. Funny story, the guy working the counter just suggested I have a friend or family member bring in the trades for me.

Just a heads up guys, It looks like the Best Buy Trade estimator just updated. Wii game trade in prices are starting to crash, so if you have Wii games you better trade them in quick. I was going to trade in like 5 or 6 Wii games soon and i just lost at least 2 dollars on each game just now. For example The conduit was 6 dollars this past morning and now it is only 4. Wii Music was 6 and is now 4. Carnival games was 5 now 4...
heads up, traded in Fifa Soccer Vita today got $25.
You only got 25 for it? Damn, online estimator says it is 16 without 100 percent trade in, 32 with...fuck...in store should match what the online estimator says, that blows they don't follow it.

its only that game and lumines the rest of them have the correct values its been said many many times in this thread

Sucks to hear. Maybe they found the GS to BB thread? ;)
Sucks to hear. Maybe they found the GS to BB thread? ;)
Yep. Almost every $5 base trade in game listed dropped to $4 or $3.

Some :wii: drops:
Deca Sports
Gummy Bears Minigolf
Red Steel 2
World Series of Poker
Ready 2 Rumble
Garfield Space Lasagna
Skiddo Snowmobile Challenge
Winter Sports Ultimate Challenge

Probably just due to the large number of trade-ins.

Oh well, at least I've got 12 other Wii games (plus Yoostar 2 :360:) to flip whose TIVs didn't drop, and it's not like I had a chance to get to a BBY before today. :bouncy:

I might go to the gs thats literally 2 minutes away from the store to find some other filler games.

Tell me about it one day my Limbo/Trials HD/Splosion Man Triple Pack is worth $8, next day it dropped down to $4. I'm glad I got it on sale from newegg for $10 so not much of a loss and everything else i traded in offset it with a slight profit. Wii games are like the kia of the video game trade in world.

:lol:mad: people who waited till Thursday of the first week of a good promo expecting values to hold until now....

If you expect to max out your trade value, you gotta go in day one before everybody else with those games(or buying those games solely to flip) figures out that they could get a decent amount back for them.

If you don't, well then there's no one to blame but yourself.:D

I had a good day. I found a $25 GS gift card, in my wallet. And, I already had $5 credit I flipped that $30 into $75 BB credit!!! :D

The art of flipping is like day trading. The goal is to unload your entire portfolio before the day ends. This ensures maximum profit as well as sleeping without a worry.

Truer words have never been spoken :D

Traded in Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, L.A. Noire, Lost Odyssey, Deus Ex HR, Ice Age 2, and Raving Rabbids Alive and Kicking for $92. Paid $8 more and got two $50 Amazon GC.
:applause:

I hope all you flippers get banned. Why not put your efforts into getting a real job to help the economy instead of taking value from it.

why don't u put your effort into a hobby rather than hating other people?

I work the FT graveyard shift at as a nurse. I just worked from 1045 yesterday til 100 this afternoon. Then I went out and flipped!! Also, isn't buying at GS and BB, helping the economy? :booty:

Your assumption is illogical. You assume that having a decent paying job and engaging in the art of flipping is mutually exclusive; clearly a flawed statement.
