Get $20 trade-in Credit when you trade 4 or more games (Current gen games only (no PS2) and $5 minimum for each game). Offer valid 10/2/11 - 10/08/11**** This promo was cancelled early due to technical issues. There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracked on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone/Android app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

How come the GOTY/complete version doesn't show up in the estimator?
Best Buy doesn't differentiate between the vanilla and GOTY/complete versions of a game. This is largely a cover-all policy due to the fact that many GOTY editions include the game's DLC and bonus content as one-time use codes; meaning that the game has no extra value on the 2nd hand market. So no extra TIV for your GOTY games. The plus side is that GOTY and vanilla versions sell at the same price, so if the DLC is located on disc and you find a GOTY version in-store it will be the same price as the vanilla one.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but updates can and do happen at any time. Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Lately some people have been told the policy is 1 game per system (i.e. you could trade in 1 copy of a game for Xbox, 1 for PS3 and 1 for Wii), and have been actively turned down when trading in more than one copy. Whether this is actually something they are banning for or if it is just what employees are being told to follow to limit multiples is unknown. Trade multiples at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually. Yes, this also applies to DS, 3DS, PSP, etc. If you have the manual and artwork you should trade it in though anyway to improve the quality of the selection for people who may want to buy the game in the future (you can't know if the game will be complete when you buy online for example).

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only. Employees have gotten much better about knowing this policy though.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, and some stores apparently accept consoles as well. Call ahead before bringing it in. That said, the TIV for most hardware is lower than competitors.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or even city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll need a (United States) state issued ID or passport.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return. You might even be flat out denied by the employee or manager despite the official rule.

Remember, all trades are technically at the discretion of Best Buy and they can refuse to accept a game for whatever reason they want (outside of you being black, woman, Jewish, etc.).

There are many people sick of reading about how flippers take something and get free money. Tjhis ruins the trade in value for people who just want to get fair value for the game the originally bout for much more money than a trade in value. Do us a favor and stop posting this garbage. Or go the the CheapAssFlipper site for it. Leave us alone for the real deals.

Then to read about someone complain about getting banned. I mean how do you get banned from a store. You must have done something very wrong for that.

Well!!! Isn't that just bitter???? :applause:
Wait, isn't BegFourMercy the same guy advocating fraud returning to walmart in the other thread (which got deleted"?
Not, these are flippers saying returning something without a receipt is fraud. Which is ironic because that is exactly what they are doing flipping a game.

Trust me!! I bought and loved that High School Musical: Sing It game. I just couldn't love it more then the hour, I owned it for today.

I needed 3 copies of Hannah Montana: The Movie for my 3 Wiis and 3 Tv's all on at the same time - for only an hour (or 30 seconds).

I believe you should answer his question in 3 parts:
(1) Yes, I am the one advocating returning games not bought from Walmart to Walmart
(2) I am convinced that flippers are the ones committing return fraud
(3) The whole situation is therefore, ironic

Pretty sure it was you who called people a joke for thinking returning items not from walmart without receipt is fraud but hell maybe i'm wrong. Just to clarify your other comment, they don't get banned from the store, they just get banned from trading in.

If you're on CAG and you're paying 'much more' for a game and not actively taking advantage of price matches for 30/60 days after purchase at BB or getting $10/$20 codes for pre-ordering the game(s)(again, at BB or Amazon), then you're doing it wrong and should have your CAG membership card cut in half and be kicked out the door.:booty:

What events trigger a retun ban from Best Buy?

I have no problem with price matches, etc what you listed. Flipping ruins it for the average person.

So does return fraud.
FYI, HDMI cables currently trade in for $4 base at GS.
Shit, I wish they could be traded in at Best Buy; they'd probably take double that if they did. Then turn around and charge $19.99 or more for used generic HDMI cables...would still be a great deal relative to what they ask for new ones
I hope all you flippers get banned. Why not put your efforts into getting a real job to help the economy instead of taking value from it.
Trololol also that's not how the economy works.
Not, these are flippers saying returning something without a receipt is fraud. Which is ironic because that is exactly what they are doing flipping a game.
How is flipping return fraud? You upset cause people can buy low and trade/sell high? That's how business works. I do it on Glyde practically every day.

Is 50 games traded in per quarter an official rule/limitation? Where is this stated or am I thniking of another trade program? Thanks

I love buying stuff cheap and reselling for a profit :hot: ,not my prob if some schmuck was too late to the party and buying y-item at x-price point.
Just wanted to post an update on my trade in situation from last night.
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9905305&postcount=4555

Went back tonight and asked to speak to a store mgr. and explained to her what happened. So she went back to the video game kiosk and looked up the game I disputed and pulled it out of the counter. She rerung it and gave me the $13 on a giftcard w/o any hesitation. Glad I did look into it, because I figured I was out that credit.
Wait.. These trade ins are done at a kiosk??

Anyways looks like this is running through next week as well.. Gives me some time to think about what things to trade in.. I pretty much refuse to trade in anything that comes up for $1 or less
I have no problem with price matches, etc what you listed. Flipping ruins it for the average person.
Except the average person seems to be OK with getting $X amount at GS without even taking advantage of the bonus promos or using a PUR card. Otherwise the chain would've seen their profits go down a while ago if people actually investigated what they could get elsewhere for their used games and stopped trading in there.

This is just a case of people who waited far too long to finish a game who are pissed at themselves for not trading them sooner looking for someone else to blame besides their own procrastination. Simple as that.

If I remember correctly, that's what GS charges for generic HDMI cables once they buy em for $4.40 apiece after 10% PUR bonus, which is the ONLY bonus that applies when trading in accessories and consoles.

So they make a nice $15.59 profit per cable.

Like I've been saying for a while, someone needs to open up a chain called Only Cables and sell just that at the store. Imagine all of the people who were gonna buy a $100 Monster brand cable at BB who would be grateful for being able to buy one for $2-5 a pop instead? You'd make a killing.

Unfortunately there's never been any verification that there is a hard and fast limit per quarter or per year. If it's per year, then a lot of the high volume traders will be SOL and BB may have to revise their policies and limits since I think most normal consumers still equate Gamestop with game trades and may not even know that BB does them yet.

Just like the Kmart Gamer deals, which were advertised ONE time in their weekly circulars, Best Buy is relying on word of mouth. Outside of the deal sites, I don't see very many regular customers trading in games to there.

You don't understand how overhead works?
Was looking at the Slickdeals thread about the 100% promo. Bunch of noobs trying to flip
If only you knew what this thread had become.

If the people who want to trade in their own games are mad because their tiv tanked thanks to flippers, they should stop playing games, because they're playing the wrong ones. seriously, 99% of the games flipped are utter shit.

What Wii or 3DS/DS game that's at $19.99 MSRP brings in the most via trade? I think I'll buy that 3DS this week and get New Super Mario Bros 2 at Toys R Us, which will entitle me to a Wii or 3DS/DS game that's 19.99 for 6 bucks. I have no need for that game, So i would just keep the NSMB2 and trade in the other game to take some of the weight of the 40 bucks I paid for NSMB2. is there a game like that that can maybe have a TIV of 8 or 9 so i can get 16 or 18 back? All the Nintendo Selects seem to be $4 base. Those to mee seemed like good choices for a good TIV, but no dice
"There are many people sick of reading about how flippers take something and get free money."

You do realize that stealing isn't required to flip, right? Cause you seem to think so by the way you worded this sentence.

It wasn't easy... but I finally found one that matched your criteria. Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion is $19.99 at Toys R Us for the Wii. It will trade in for $8 Base.

Nice, thank you. That would make my NSMB2 30 bucks ( 40 + 6 - 16)

I don't flip myself but generally don't have a problem with those that do unless they're buying up copies of a game somebody might actually want to play. If you can get away with buying Wii shovelware at GS and making a profit at BB, more power to you.

Does the free Steel Diver with a purchase of any 3DS system include the 3DS XL? And is that deal also in stores..Thinking about getting a XL in the morning.

Heads up for anyone trying to trade FIFA soccer for vita to upgrade to the new one. The quoted web price and the store price differ by $8 with the current promo. Online shows $16, in store I got $12. Was told to call customer service for the adjustment and now I'm basically out $8 in credit that I thought I was going to get.

Went to do some trade-ins during lunch break.
Base:
:ps3: Skyrim - $16 (I hope there will be a GOTY edition or I will regret my decision)
:ps3: Deus Ex - $5 (Beaten it after blowout 1.0, great game)
:ps3: Rage - $5 (Not $6 as listed on the website, sad)
:ps3: Final Fantasy XIII-2 - $8 (Finally got through the last boss, which was insane. What is up with games and fucking crappy endings these days...?)

The website states any 3DS Console purchase gets Steel Diver for sale so I went into the store and they just did an override on my purchase. Rather have a game than that damn bulky case.

Is the current trade-in bonus 100% or 50%? This is what it says on the front page, right now:
- 100% Bonus Trade-In Credit W/any trade in:

Get a 50% bonus when you trade-in any game (Offer valid 8/19 - 8/25??)
I got two of my new PS3 games in from amazon, thank you best buy 100% trade in bonus. I bought Heavy Rain Directors Cut and 3D Dot Game Hero's for $36.94 still have around $38 + change left. I found 3D Dot Game Hero's cheaper on gamestop and some other site, so they issued me a $5 promotional certificate that will automaticcaly be applied to my accout on my next purchase at checkout.
