In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

Yea the guy at my bestbuy says BB employees who arent even in the game dept or work the midnight release started to grab all the goodies so when midnight release comes, there was barely any left for customers. This was GoW3 and Batman.
 You're probably right. Who needs a whole corporate division when you have Bozo McGreederson trading sealed copies and asking at the top of his longs afterwards: "Where can I find the kindle gift cards? I have some trade in cash to spend, and I don't want do it in your store suckers!". (Then under his breath he says) "I'm so smart!". Then he pays for the gift cards and when he's on his way out asks the geek squad guys: "Would you mind if I borrow your laptop for a sec? I'm just gonna post really quick on the CAG forum to let them know I just butt raped your gaming department for $500 with TRU sealed copies so they think I'm awesome."
:applause: How'd you know what I did next?;) Kidding. But now that the tiv's for Duke Nukem Forever and a couple others I was gonna blow through and trade in have dropped to where they're no longer profitable for me that means I get to go through them at my own pace now and just enjoy them. Finally I get to take a breather from trying to speed run games and missing out on the experience of enjoying them.:)
No mention of a uncharted trade in deal in this weeks ad :( I guess I could just put my flips towards bf3 and use them on uncharted
I posted a couple of pages back that there will be an Uncharted deal the week its released but they haven't specified what it is. My guess is +40% when you buy it and I'll update when they actually give full info.

Sweet ! I hope its the 50% bonus deal for trades (60 with card). With what I'm about to trade in it will pay off the game itself. Keep us posted :)

Thanks for the heads up on this guys, traded in RAGE to get Arkham City. Practically received $40.00 in credit. I felt absolutely ridiculous trading in RAGE already, but I knew after beating it I wasn't going to be playing it again. So I figured I'd give it a shot and save some money since it's game season.

Not only that you could wait till its really cheap if you want to play it again. I've done that a few times

 I know exactly what you mean. Remember the old cartoons where the dog would be hungry and he would see other animals not as animals but as walking T-bone steaks? Well, the last few weeks have been a rush trading wise but I would be playing or watching TV, and I'd look at the small pile of "currently playing" games next to my PS3 and I would see them as piles of cash, slowly fading away with every day that goes by without trading them. Sometimes it's easy to forget why we do this in the first place. It's supposed to be for fun. Some people clip Bonsai trees, we do this. You don't see the bonsai clippers stressing over the price of fertilizer :D

Yea- I traded in my copy of Rage too- same thought processes.

I figure I bought it on the 5 for $100 deal, so i'll get $20 in credit for buying it, knocking my cost down to $40 total. I traded it at $30+$18 RZ/Pre-Order so I came out ahead. I'll just buy it again if DLC comes out, but I need the funds now.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I would hope to god for the endings sake there would be DLC that connects. Cause that ending was awkwardly abrupt.

Exactly how how feel! I had time to play Duke Nukem and aside from the humor, it is not a good game!!!
Exactly how how feel! I had time to play Duke Nukem and aside from the humor, it is not a good game!!!
Yeah, I think the best thing about it was the nostalgic value and humor. Aside from that you're not missing too much. I wish they would just make a new Blood and Shadow Warrior already.
So I took a sealed game to my store to see what would happen and all they did was take it out of the wrap.
Haha, they didn't give you any problems since it was sealed?

Really considering trading in my copy of Gears 3 LE (disc only) since it's just sitting there. I pretty much got it for free after selling 3 DLC codes and paying with GC. By the look of how fast these TIV are dropping I don't think $26 base will hold that long.

Why do so many people say DNF is just NOT a good game? I'm personally having more fun with this game than any of the newest/shiniest/prettiest games out there. But then again I have a tendency to play games people seem to dislike and I end up loving them while I play games people rave about and kinda wanna ask people wtf they're smoking to think X or Y game is sooooo good.:)

But we each have our own preferences, I suppose.

I got rid of Madden 12 and MLB The Show. I got about $58 in credit....nice. I'll just get an Amazon Gift Card, since I plan on using it for XMAS gifts. I need to find some good flips to make xmas shopping better this year.

Went to hit up the 50% MW3 deal and I was blown away that Best Buy is no longer accepting pre-orders for the Hardened Edition. Insane.

I read somewhere that they sold out everywhere. TRU is still taking pe-orders though. I think this actually might be limited and hard to find when it comes out.

i liked the duke nukem level where he's knocked out and run's a strip club, and you have to find items for the girl to lap dance to continue. highlight of the game
i liked the duke nukem level where he's knocked out and run's a strip club, and you have to find items for the girl to lap dance to continue. highlight of the game
Yeah. But I was getting a kick outta the level where you're in Duke Burger and shrunk down. Some of the things listed on the cans/bottles on the shelves in the one stockroom were hilarious.

Of course, I also got a kick out of making Duke pick up a turd outta the toilet and fling it around for a bit to get my first trophy in the game. But then again, I used to love George Carlin's stand-up routines and comedy albums. I got to see him perform in person 1-2 times before he passed away. Hell of a show, but most of it was older material.

as per my store they pulled out all the promos except for the 40% towards batman purchase...anyone else hearing this or he was bs'ing

Yeah, I got the MW3 50% bonus at around 3:00 pm Pacific Friday and they also said the Battlefield 3 one was running.
Does the MW3 one run until the game's release?

Edit: Nevermind. I see it runs until 11/12.
I thought you had an app for that. ;)

ended up trading in Dead Island for $39 today towards BF3. Not bad considering i got through more than half of it and paid $50. I'll pick it up at a later date to finish. Now i only have to pay like $20 towards BF3 after the GC and my $5 reserve deposit. I'm siked for Tuesday!

TIV for Michael Jackson the experience for PS3 is still $16. Toysrus has it for 19.99. With b2g1 free, it's still a good flip.

Seriously?

I specifically remember it being something like $8 which was why i didnt trade it in on thrusday.

>.<

Whatever i'll get it down tomorrow.

@foreinter thanks for the post i wouldve sent it in without knowing it was still $16

Yeah, PS3 version stayed $16 the whole time. There were more than a few of us watching it daily I'm guessing... ;)

anyone know if you can canel a preorder or i should say before i get attacked adjust or replace a preorder? i preordered battlefield 3 but with amazon's deal i want to get it there. id rather just have my preorder changed to uncharted 3.

Indeed, people kept posting that it dropped and I had no idea what they were talking about because it never did. I didn't realize the 360 version was a cheapy from gamefly so it didn't occur to me they were talking about that until I checked all the versions and saw that was the one at $8. It made no sense to me since it was $39.99 or so at TRU ;).

Two Worlds II is still holding nicely. That has certainly seen some tradeins and still been decent.

I used a poweruprewards coupon on copy from GS to get rid of some credit.

I don't see why not. You can always pick up the initial game and return it immediately, thereby recovering your pre-order, anyway. I hope BBY's knowledge of this will enable you to not waste your time doing this.

You mean the sun! ;x

My two cents.....Instead of picking up the game and returning it iggypop wait till the preorder expires as I suggested on the other thread but instead of returning the preorder ask to exchange it for UC3. this might look better on the record than any returns. :)

Yes, I did this a week ago. Take your pre-order slips to the gaming dept and tell them you want to transfer your pre-order from one game to another.

That being said the second game(batman) never showed up on the 5/$100 tracker.
so we know that bestbuy is watching gamefly sales according to tiv drops? would make more sense then 'monitoring' this thread, but idk
Well it seems like they taking one out of GS playbook. New releases at $25. They must be paying the same company as GS for their tradein values
