There have been issues with this promo not working on some stores' systems or simply not even being available, the issue seems to be related to disc-only games (or any game that is typed rather than scanned) so plan accordingly. The $20 extra is once per trade-in, meaning 4 games or 123 games it will only be $20 extra per transaction. So if you want to trade in 8 games, do it in two separate transactions. ****

In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

How does the get **% with pre-order bonus work?
The percentage is based on the final total of your entire trade in, so if the trade in is $100 and there is a 50% bonus your final gift card value will be $150. After trading in your games, the employee SHOULD then sell you the pre-order for $5.

How much is a pre-order at Best Buy?
Pre-ordering at Best Buy cost $5, in fact, you aren't supposed to pay any more than that (and most employees won't let you if you ask). Yes, you can use the gift card you just received from your trade-in to purchase the pre-order.

Can I cancel a pre-order and keep the bonus?
Yes, the trade-in and the pre-order are completely separate transactions. Nothing will prevent you from returning to the Best Buy canceling the pre-order and receiving a refund. Some users have claimed that they were flagged for doing this multiple times though and were denied, so be aware of how many pre-orders you are cancelling. Also keep in mind the obvious facts that this is not how the program is intended to work and over abuse will negatively affect the program long-term. Lastly, returns are tracks on a personal level by a third party. (Read: try not to cancel a bunch of pre-orders)

Do I have to cancel the pre-order at the same store where it was made?
No, this can be handled by any BBY. Don't be surprised if you get a customer service employee who says otherwise though.

Can I pre-order once and get the pre-order bonus on my next trade-in as well?
YMMV. Officially, the answer is no, but there is nothing that actually requires the employee to sell the pre-order in order to apply the bonus so if your blue shirt is in a friendly mood they may be willing. Doesn't hurt to get to know the employees at your store. That said, expect that you will have to pre-order another game and be surprised if you don't.

Can I combine a 3 games for **% and a pre-order for **% bonus?
No. Bonuses do not stack, and you must pick one or the other. The only bonus that stacks with other promotions is the 10% you receive if you are a Gamers Club Unlocked member.

How do I become a Gamers Club Unlocked member and get the 10% bonus?
Any video game section employee should be able to set you up with the GCU membership. It cost $15 and comes with a year subscription of @Gamer magazine. It will also get you a 10% bonus on trade ins and 10% off of used games (Make sure to point it out to the blue shirt doing your trade-in though as it is easy for them to skip, and they are still new to it). It can take 48 hours (or more) for GCU to show up on your Reward Zone membership.

Can I use my Best Buy gift card to purchase Amazon Kindle Gift Cards or Visa Gift Cards?
Yes, although some employees may not be aware of this and incorrectly refuse to do so. Visa Gift Cards have a $200 limit and a $6 activation fee. Amazon Gift Cards are available in $25, $50 and $100 depending on your store selection. IL does not sell Amazon Gift Cards. Yes, Kindle Gift Cards are good for anything on Amazon.

The value on the site doesn't match the store, why?
Sometimes the page may not update immediately. This is fairly rare though. The store's trade-in values are definitive though, so what they say is what you get. 99.99% of the time they will match up.

The value on the iPhone app is way off, why?
The app sucks for updating values (and some games simply don't show up), don't rely on it.

The game I want to trade isn't on the site, what gives?
While rare, there have been some games recently not showing up in the online estimator. You can always check in-store to see if the price is in their system and simply not online, but that is unlikely to be the case. When Best Buy doesn't have a game on file they can offer $1 as a generic SKU, but that's it. New releases appear to be added on Tuesday evenings. Many new releases are taking upwards of a week or more to be added to the site.

When do trade-in values update?
No one knows for sure, but major updates seem to come on Sunday and Tuesday nights (or at least have in the past). Sometimes an update will happen randomly, such as when GameStop has an advertised sale for a game well below Best Buy's trade in price.

What will be the TIV of Game X tomorrow/next week / next month/ etc
Nobody knows.

If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as the item is received within 14 days of you locking it in (and the item is in the condition you described it as).

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
Officially, Best Buy only accepts 3 copies of a game, per system (i.e. you could trade in 3 copies of a game for Xbox, 3 copies for PS3 and 3 for Wii). This is for sure the online policy, but it varies in stores. Some people have reported being banned for trading in more than 3 copies of games, others have done so frequently without issue. Obviously it is YMMV, but do so at your own risk.

Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
Best Buy accepts disc only games (for the same value as complete games). The trade in will take longer though as the employee will have to look up the games individually.

Can I trade in games that say "Not for Resale" on the back?
Yes, since the only thing that matters is the disc. Some employees will fight this though, and in that case, just trade the game in as disc-only.

Does Best Buy accept game hardware?
Currently Best Buy only accepts various versions of the Nintendo DS in store, but word is that will change soon.

Does the **% bonuses apply to game hardware?
No, games only.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live. At a minimum you'll likely need a state ID.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
Some stores are required to have receipts to accept trade-ins, again this is due to local Pawn shop laws and could vary from city to city. You can always check if the store(s) near you require a receipt on Best Buy's trade-in site.

Can I trade sealed games?
Yes. You must present your receipt for the sealed games you are trading in. It is ok if the purchase was made from another store. You do run the risk of drawing extra attention to yourself as trading in sealed products is often a sign of theft. Do not be surprised if this is questioned by an employee, or you are asked to leave, open the items and return.

A few questions-

1. Would Gamers Unlocked be worth it(for the 10 percent extra) if I traded Arkham City(2 copies), Sonic Colors DS, Virtua Fighter 5, and Forza 3? I looked at the trade in values with the 50 percent extra and it looked good. Just wondering if I would recoup money from doing the Gamers Unlocked.

2. If I preordered just for the 50 percent, would I be penalized for cancelling after?
It would probably be tons of people who had to ask their parents if they could stay up until 12. In other words, a bunch of 10-15 year olds. :D

Because the game is rated M you had to be 17 to go into the demo part so basically there were mostly adults. Still sucked and I left at 8:30 (which is about how long I had to stand outside to get in).

Well... you could simply look at what the extra 10% will net you on the gift card... My $15 membership was paid off on my first trade, give or take like two bucks, everything since has been pure profit. Also, I paid for my membership with a GC from trade ins. The more you trade the more "worth it" the membership becomes.

Finally got my RZ Unlocked coupons/stickers in the mail today as well as my first issues of @Gamer.

1) I would say it's worth it, especially if you plan on doing more trade-ins in the future. With the extra 10% plus the coupons in @Gamer, it pays for itself pretty quick.

2) Read the OP...

Agreed. The 10% was just bonus after the coupons paid off the subscription. Most definitely worth it. Although the last few months I havent used the coupons.

My Best Buy was giving out free Call of Duty Elite t-shirts to everyone who pre-ordered and purchased the Hardened Edition at midnight. I was pleasantly surprised and it's even a decent XL.

I did feel a little awkward walking into BB at 11:30 with 2 copies of Battlefield 3 to trade-in towards the purchase of MW3 lol. Everything went smooth though, with my 10% off coupon, the total came to $91.15.

Question about getting a pre-order deal:

So I trade-in Black Ops for $15 (price on site now), which will give the 50% deal of $7.50.

Then I can get a pre-order deal on another game - will that yield me an additional $7.50, that I can use immediately to purchase MW3?

So in total: $15 (black ops game) +$7.50(trade in bonus) + $7.50(pre-order bonus)?

No. One bonus, one time.

Anyone had any luck with the adjusting a trade after the fact? The girl gave me the wrong 'bonus' on my trades last night and I didn't notice it until this morning.

I got a $20 trade 3 bonus when the 50% would've netted me more.
Damn, flips used to be so easy to get a Best Buy, two hours of searching and nothing decent. Really cracking down pretty damn hard it seems.
Nah you don't know where to look.
Nah, you're wrong, found a handful of gamestop to bestbuy flips this morning.
There are a fair few, but you are right that best buy's tiv's are getting adjusted down faster and are worse than just a couple of months ago. Thanks, figured as much. At least I'll get my coupon adjustment.

Yes, but you gotta get a manger involved though so good luck. It's almost not worth the time. I ask customer service, called 1800bestbuy, who then refered me back to customer service. The manager then allowed me to buy items worth the difference and she adjusted everything to .01
The 50% bonus was completely ingnored on my transaction. Somehow I think a difference of 10% seem more likely to be shot down. Good luck.

With as much trouble as the girl had adjusting my ticket with the 10% coupon on my phone, this sounds like I'd be there for hours. Hate that I missed out on about $14 worth of credit, but my time is more valuable than arguing over it.

Child of Eden (PS3) has two TIVs at Best Buy... $18 and $20. When I typed my UPC into the estimator, it showed $18, but when I typed in the game it showed $20. So I cut off the UPC and traded it in to BB. Sure enough, two showed up... I eventually got the $20 TIV with 60% bonus.

Just thought I would mention it in case anyone else wants to trade it in.

So I have a extra copy of COD:MW3 from the getting the special edition of the Xbox, if i trade it in today at BB towards Skyrim, I would get 37 dollars store credit?

Or you could sell it on craigslist for $50 but then you risk being stabbed, murdered, raped and or shot (no specific order)

Craigslist is not that bad, guys. I was only raped twice, never stabbed or murdered.
Miracle happened last night, my Gamer unlocked finally got added to my account
I feel you. After a month and a half of fighting it. I posted on the BBY forums. They ended up Messing it up and delinked my phone number from my account. I sent a message to Mike on the forums last week.

Last night I went to snag my MW3 at mid night and one of the gaming specialists that I talk to a lot was there.

She started to ring me out then went "Oh, Oh , Oh. Guess what." freaked me out for a sec. But then she congratualted me on being an "official" valued unlocked member.

Columbus, OH had 28 reported CL muggings in the last year. 2 confirmed murders and 2 possible.

According to my store, i have 10 days to come back into the store and cancel the transaction and receive my trade-ins back. Theoretically, you could cancel it and re-trade... but im sure you'd catch some hate.

I was raped twice as well but by women. Besides from that I usually get the "oh man Im 5$ short is 15 ok anyway ?" Trick ....

Glad I live in Compton CA instead. I really dont, but there are shady areas you avoid like the plague.

Haha, CL casual encounters still works? I have heard about that "I am short $xx so still sell it to me" bullshit and to that I would say we agreed on a price, you wasted my time, go F- yourself.

i did $5 short once. but i was legit $5 short. it was a dude that was selling demons souls cuz it was too hard. we toked a bowl and all was even. ;)

For those of you who use a lot of giftcards to purchase. Keep an eye on your non-exchange transactions. When you pay with a giftcard you receive 0 Reward Zone points, but if you return said item at a later date (cheaper price, don't want, etc) and it is refunded to a gift card... your account will be docked the full price of the game - an extra 60 for the Gamers Club bonus. Just a heads up. Noticed that when i returned an in-store pick-up item and it posted a negative point balance to my account.

I noticed that as well...quite shady of them imo....to not give points for items purchased using a gift card, but yet when you return the item (and they put it back on a gift card) they deduct points from your account that you never received. It's weird though, becuase it doesnt happen all the times for me, just random sometimes, and someitmes its just for a partial of the amount as well.

They have been giving me credit for gift cards on RZ, but not giving me credit for portions paid with the GC.

Also I posted a while back about how tired I was of Craigslist a-holes.
1) No, I won't bring the game to your house. Wal-Mart's parking lot is just as inconvenient for both of us.
2) I don't care how short you are. You are getting it for less than the GameStop and Walmart we are in front of.
3) Concealed Carry 'nuff said

I've only gotten a few cents with each purchase that I've played off with gift cards.

wow seriously? thanks for the info. I have returned a few orders (so far all games) where GC was used as partial or full payment. I'm also going to have to return a dvd bought in full with GC. Does anyone know how RZ points (I'm Unlocked) are calculated when a GC is used? I'll do the math to see what I've been screwed out of once I get the $100 RZ for this pre-order stuff.

With the information released today that Walmart will have it on sale for $15 on Black Friday I'd be a little nervous about where that TIV premiers at.

In general, worried about what Black Friday will do to some of the newer games TIV. Hopefully since it is a single sale that will be quick it won't have much effect.

Also, anyone interested in picking up MW3 this week that hasn't already, Bestbuy.com has it for $51.99, easy to get price matched.

I went to GS today to maybe trade in :wii:NBA 2K12 if their TIV was better than BBY's, but it wasn't so I didn't. The employee then says:

"You know it'll only get lower the longer you wait."

To which I reply: "Yeah I'm taking it to BBY, their TIV is higher." Back and forth about 50% bonuses, blah blah.

He ends with: You know BBY is going out of business. They're shutting down their gaming department on January 1st.

What. A. fucking. Massive. Troll.

I met one. IRL. It was absurd.

You shouldve been like "well, I guess I better trade this in before they go out of business then."

Did a flip today for some Blu-rays, and was told Max Payne 3 is part of the 50% bump group now. Just used that promo bump today, so it is live.

Yep, I heard BBY is going to declare bankruptcy because of all the competition they are getting from Circuit City. Shit is craaazzzy.

 = that GS employee

He was off to a bad start with "You know it'll only get lower the longer you wait."
He honestly thought you were turning down the trade because you thought the TIV would rise? On a sports game of all things? The stupidity of that employee amazes me.

He may have been misinformed about the closing of BBY U.K

So let me get this straight. I used the BB estimator and it said my games total were $80. So now technicality with this 50% more deal I have $160 towards any game of my choosing. So I can walk in there tomorrow and pick up MW3 and Elder Scrolls and still have a difference left over? Just want to clarify this before I walk down there in the next half hour.
