best components

videocard: i usually go with nvidia, but there are some manufacturers i stay away from, like PNY

ram: not too picky with it but i stay away from PNY

HD: i usually go with seagate

CD/DVD Drive/Burner: i'd go with NEC or Lite On

mobo: eh, i'm not too picky

btw i just stay away from PNY because i've had bad experiences with them

motherboard: Not a big deal... probably ASUS or MSI
Videocard: nVidia
RAM: Kingston, Corsair
HD: Seagate
CD/DVD: NEC

my favorite HD is Western Digital, the Raptor drives rule

GPU nVidia

mobo DIF, ASUS, MSI area all good

Ram, OCZ, corsair

Motherboard - Asus and Shuttle, if its a AMD based motherboard NVIDIA is what I would buy, for Intel, I will use a Intel chipset. I would steer clear from VIA, they're garage in my opinion.
Ram - Corsair and Geil is what I use both are awesome
Videocard - I'm happy with Nvidia more, but ATI is ok, I have a laptop that uses a ATI x1600 and runs games fine for me.
Hard drive- Western Digital and Seagate to me are the best brands.

Motherboard: asus or dfi
videocard: bfg or evga
ram: patriot, g.skill or corsair
HDD: Seagate or Western Digital
DVD drive: whatever is the cheapest

Mobo: Asus because that's all I've used.
Vid: ATI from PowerColor or Sapphire, best bang for the buck.
RAM: Corsair and OCZ because they're ok with you OCing a little bit and have great support.
HD: Seagate because their 7200.10 series pwns.
DVD/CD: Samsung or Sony, never had a problem with either one, HP and Philips sucks ass.
