Best place to get a blu ray drive for PS3
IMO, you are better off just buying a new system.
$300 versus paying maybe $70?

No way are they better off buying a new system rather than just replacing the lens on their current system.

But the OP didn't mention what model PS3 they have or anything, as there's several places besides eBay to grab a replacement lens.

Try these:

http://www.consoleshop.com/home.php?cat=308

http://www.modsupplier.com/catalog/ps3-service-parts-c-48_50.html (NOTE: This is JUST a replacement parts site. I don't believe there are illegal parts on this site. Didn't check though)

http://www.bizrate.com/playstation-3-accessories/replacement-parts-for-ps3/

Or try searching PS3 replacement parts.

I'd wait until after E3, might be a pricedrop. Also, depeding on the model he has it might be better if he just buys a new system. If the Blue ray drive failed who knows what else will fail in the future.

There are ways to fix the other things that may 'fail' too(like reflowing the thermal paste to fix the YLOD).

It just seems stupid to me for someone to pay $200-300 for a new version of the same console, when a simple fix for any problems that may arise may be all that's needed.;)

That's why I think Sony sold so many damned PS2's last gen, since people just kept buying new ones instead of just cleaning or replacing their dirty/failed laser.
