Blowing the Dust off the Wii

I just recently hook up my Wii to make sure it works. My kids 14 and 5 had a good time playing Wii Sports on the living room TV (Sony). So I decided to hook it up in the "Game Room" which is really a room we use for storage. In the "Game Room" I use a 26 Dynex LCD (I know not the best choice but I can't justify spending 500 dollars on a TV I turn on 3 times a week to the Wife). I didn't have anything downloaded so I decided to reformat it which went smoothly. Being the true CAG I am I got 1000 Wii Points from a fellow CAG. But this is where I'm confused it didn't ask me to creat a Wii Store Account. So I enter the codes and downloaded Double Dragon. Went to play and I get the message this format isn't supported. Could it be cause of the bootleg Compnent Cables?

So my questions are:
1. Why didn't I have to creat a Wii Store Account?
2. Could the bootleg Compnent cables cause that message?

I never had to create a store account. I use 3rd party component cables from Gamestop and have never had a problem.

I figured out the Component issue. It would help if I had the screen set up for HDTV and not for SDTV. So I guess I'm good to go.
