Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only
Pixar blu's are stunning in terms of both AQ/VQ.
Just check out screen grabs from the Blu here. Talk about setting a new standard for Blu.

Rumor has it that Monsters isn't getting released in the states until sometime between Dec 09 and Apr 10. I ordered my MI through Amazon UK but canceled because they hadn't shipped in over 4 days. Will attempt a re-order soon.

Funny, I like the Yetti's use of the Lingon Berry Jam box as furniture ( an Ikea joke), reminds of the first time I read Chick-Hicks main sponsor name (HtB, which made me laugh because of friend of mine's family bank was taken over by BB&t). Never noticed either until the :br: release.

shut up debating about it and do it already, you know it's worth it.

go ahead and order it now, it's back ordered like a mother fucker and won't ship out for another week and a half.. mine is shipping out Monday though, yay

You know what? fuck the whole bloody affair. He's been talking about it since 2005. I've been waiting since then. I'm tired of waiting.

Knowing Tarantino, he'll release it this Christmas, and it'll still have the censored version of the Crazy 88 fight. That's the only way I'll buy it - if it's extended by at least 30 minutes, it's all on one disc, and it's the uncensored version - the full color Crazy 88 fight and the scene where the Bride
cuts off Sophie's other arm
MUST be included.

And it wouldn't hurt if it was in a steelbook case as well ;)

(Note that the above would only apply to a blu ray version.)

Side note: MI shipped out to me yesterday.. should be here next week!

Only the Japanese one. This is why I hate importing. I always want the superior copy and at this point, we don't know which one will be better: US, UK, or Japan.
I guess there's the idea of just waiting to see what the other two look like.

I'd rather wait and see how the US version compares, since HDD will reference their review of the Japanese version when they do the review of the US version.

I don't think it's gonna happen. I want it too, but I remember reading an article that whoever distributes the films here stateside doesn't have the rights to the Japanese, full color cut. I don't know if the issue is that they can't acquire the rights or won't acquire the rights, but I refuse to double dip this again unless they do. Nor will I ever beliece the Whole Bloody Affair is happening until I see it on store shelves.

Nov./Dec. sounds about right for a release date. Inglorious Basterds could be prepped for release by then (might be already) plus Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown are on deck as well (PF had an estimated date of this month back at the beginning of the year). I foresee a smorgasbord of Tarantino BR's towards the end of the year.

nov 10th with up

I'll buy the whole bloody affair with or without the black and white... I just want it recut.

It's not 30 mins longer though.

I heard that Weinstein company is in financial trouble and if Inglorious Bastards doesn't do well they may go under. That could throw the release of The Whole Bloody Affair off. I'm still waiting for titles like Equilibrium and From Dusk Till Dawn.

I heard that Weinstein Company is in financial trouble and that if Inglorious Bastards and H2 do do so well that they may go under which would suck since I enjoy their Dragon Dynasty releases. That would probably throw off the release of The Whole Bloody Affair and I'm still waiting for them to release titles like Equilibrium and From Dusk Till Dawn.

They sure will. Weinstein Company already sold the home video distribution rights to Universal Pictures.
http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.c...-to-change-original-inglorious-basterds-deal/

Also, Robert Rodriguez tweeted awhile ago that he was currently working on a '10-minute Film School' special feature for the "Grindhouse" Blu-ray/DVD release.

H2 should do really well. I don't see why it won't.

Inglorious Bastards is hit and miss. It looks like it's going to be hilarious. I loved the trailers.

From Dusk is a Disney film. It's out in Canada

Universal will be releasing Basters BD/DVD.

And this blows that Tweet out of the water:

(some info on Kill Bill TWBA as well)
That’s not the only Tarantino project to be cut in two however, with the current DVD releases of Grindhouse in most of the world splitting the double bill apart (not to mention many of the theatrical releases). Is that one about to be reconstituted too? Not right now, no:

We’ve just been lazy getting around to Grindhouse, the full edition.

He admits it. And the inference is, of course, that he’ll get round to it in due course

H2 will bomb. It's going up again The Final Destination the same weekend which has a built-in audience and franchise.

For fun, here is what I came up with last week:
Fun Weinstein Facts over their possible demise:

Official Weinstein Blu-ray Releases: 15 (1408, Awake, Deathproof, Planet Terror, The Mist, Halloween 2007, Superhero Movie, Soul Men, The Longshots, Vicky Christinia Barcelona, The Reader, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Clerks II, Diary of the Dead, Hell Ride)
Alliance Weinstein Blu-ray Releases: 7 + 2 Announced (Black Christmas 2006, Dead or Alive, Fanboys, Outlander, Killshot, Hannibal Rising, Derailed) (Harsh Times, Rogue)
Official Weinstein HD DVD to Blu Ports: 2 (Clerks II and Lucky Number Slevin)
Official Weinstein HD DVD Releases: 11 (Clerks II, Lucky Number Slevin, School for Scoundrals, Harsh Times, Derailed, Pulse, Wolf Creek, Black Christmas 2006, Feast, Scary Movie 4, The Matador)
Other Weinstein Titles available as HD DVD Imports: 5 (1408, Deathproof, Aurthur and the Invisibles, Hoodwinked, Hannibal Rising)
Postponed/Canceled/Delayed US Blu-ray Releases: 10 Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden, Fanboys, Killshot, Outlander, Eden Lake, Martyrs, Boy A, The Road, Hurricane Season, Janky Promoters, Crossing Over
Rumored: 2 (Grindhouse) and possibly H2 (Halloween 2). Inglorious Basterds will now be released by Universal

First and last Blu-ray Release: September 16th, 2008; April 28th, 2009 7 Months

If I need to add any titles please reply with a list.

As a reminder, if you want any of their Blu-rays perhaps now is the time to buy (especially since all just so happened to drop in price recently).

Oh, and Genius (who distributes for Weinstein and was pissed about their backdoor-deal with Universal on Basterds) just canceled a Blu-ray.

My only personal concern about Weinstein is the Dragon Dynasty imprint. I was really surprised to see so much consistently good product under that banner, especially considering all of the horrid releases they put out under the Dimension brand when they were at Disney. It was nice to finally get a version of Fist of Legend that was treated the way it shoud be. If Weinstein Co. does go under I really want to see the DD label saved.

I already have the first release of the movie on Blu-ray is it worth upgrading to the "Skynet Edition" for the $13.00 it will cost me to do so at Best Buy this week. I only have a 720p TV set with no home theater system and my Blu-ray player is my PS3 if that matters. If somebody could post what the differences are between the two versions that would be great also.

Thanks,
ajh2298

I've been out of the loop for awhile with movies (about 6 months now)

Are there any Blu-Rays that have been released that I need to see? Great releases/movies?

I'll probably sound like a hypocrite since I think they are too expensive(I wait for sales), but all Pixar movies are must-buys. Watchmen is great. Coraline, 300: UE, Strangelove, Shawshank redemption, and many more.

You can check out a list of old releases here. There are also reviews on the site I linked to(HDD).

actually looking forward to H2. The first one was pretty good. I find it weird though that final destination and h2 open on the same day. Final might win due to the 3d gimmick. we'll see.

on another note.. wb finally shipped my damn order. Going to have to be careful next time i order as they arent as good as they once were.

Anyone get a look at Blue Thunder? It's $10 at Fry's and, as a kid, I loved that movie.
It's certainly an older action film, I just wanna make sure it's not DNR'ed to the point that it looks like plastic people. I can only find one review and it's not from a trusted source.

Since when have they been good?

Interesting review. It's almost like the author went out of his way to give a positive rating. I enjoyed BT when it first came out, but I dunno if I enjoyed that much where I want to own a copy now. Still, that $10-11 price point sure is tempting.

Yea, many of those Badham movies haven't held up as well as I remember them. At the same time they are like perfect little pop-culture time capsules and are iconic films of the 1980s. So many scenes and story-lines seem cliche now but were original and fresh then.
I think I'll pick it up.
Not owning the DVD I guess I can't really go wrong.
Stop complaining about a $10 :br: you don't own on DVD. :booty:

Hey, Young Guns was a footbullet I am still getting over. I didn't own it on :dvd: and it burned me, even as cheap as I got it.

Finally rec'd BSG Complete BR set today from DD sale. Haven't opened it yet, but looks good so far. I dunno why, but the packaging is somewhat larger than I expected it to be.
