I was kind of hoping we could make a thread in spotting fake products to confirm too good to be true deals.

These might have been discussed in other threads, but I felt that there may have been many who did not read those posts and this will capture their attention.

This is regarding Pro Duo Memory Stick cards:

Well I was doing some on-line research and found a couple of threads regarding fake Pro Duo Memory Cards.

Here's a couple links:

http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=32249
http://www.pricegrabber.com/rating_getprodrev.php/product_id=8352093/id_type=M(They talk about it somewhat in the reviews)
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=224382&page=21 (This was a very helpful thread)

I hope these links help you guys. I've seen so many counterfeit products, I shoulda realized these would be a victim also >.>

Even the company I work at has to deal with counterfeit receivers others copy from us. China is gettin a real bad rep for all the stuff that's manufactured there. -.-

Hopefully we can add to this thread and compile a list of counterfeit/fake products that entice us CAGers ;)

I'm lookin for other CAGers to post their own finds on other products here. I can add it to the list that way :D

A small spot for Anime and Game Soundtracks as well as DVD's:

All these "labels" produce counterfeit and knock offs - EverAnime, Sonmay, FX.

There's more but I don't have time and they're not coming to mind. Those are pretty much the Big Three. I'll update soon.
Just wondering, what's the disadvantage of counterfeit Memory Sticks?
they're made from cheaper parts and more likely to fail/become corrupt... not to mention any warranty that the legit company offers on their products is null and void... not to mention the prices of legit products increasing due to counterfeit product sales...

also beware of Digital 4 less @ Price Grabber Storefronts, he sells fake memory sticks... below is a link to my review, but you'll also find other negative reviews from people who know the difference between real & fakes...

If you can't discern the difference by just looking at it, obviously don't go for it if it's cheaper than the usual going price on sites like outpost/newegg.com

If you do get a stick and aren't sure, there are three obvious trademarks of a fake.

First, the printing on the back of the Stick would not be laser etched, meaning you could wipe off the print over a week.

Second, if you have a PSP with FW 2.6 or higher I believe, go to Music, Game, or Video folder in the main menu of the PSP, hit Triangle and go to information. One should say Magicgate tm, if it says Supported next to it, it's a legit stick, if it says Unknown, It's a Fake.

Third, the transfer rate on a Fake is noticeably SLOW. I'm talkin at least half the speed of a normal Pro Duo. I know, I had one >.>...

I completely agree. So do the Teddy Twins.
