I'm currently looking to build a new computer, and would like a little input regarding main component choices. So far, I'm thinking of getting one of the AMD 690 series motherboards when they come out, and an Athlon 64 X2 5200+ from Newegg ($225 shipped). I figure that the onboard X1250 chipset on the 690 will have me taken care of as I wait for DX10 compliant video cards. Good plan so far, or can I do any better on the value/longevity axis?

If you plan on playing any recent games I wouldn't trust onboard video to work for you. I would say go with at least a 6 series or a cheap 7 series video card to hold you over, or just save up build you computer when you have enough for for DX10 card.

New prices starting around April 22 or so. Thanks to SD!

I'm also building a new PC soon.

I know I need to start with a motherboard and a processor. What do most recommend? I don't want to go TOO crazy on the price....keeping it under a $1000 is what I need to do for sure. Cheaper the better of course.

I'm not a PC gamer, but I would like something to run VISTA and some video stuff and be able to stream stuff to my 360 with ease (my current PC bogs down when I enable Windows Media Connect via WMP11).

The way I see it, I can hold off a little while on current gaming until the DX 10 cards come around. That way I'll have a little more money to spare on something better.
