So, I compiled a list of what looked reasonable.

Not sure if everything is compatible or not.
I'm $100 short right now, but looking to find a way to get some more money. So, please don't recommend $300-$400 CPUs. :p

Also, I'm not sure if the mobo I picked is good. It has everything I want. Onboard video (for now), audio, 4 Ram slots (don't know if DDR2 is better or something). I also need to know if it's compatible with the cpu I picked. The cpu I picked has 533MHz FSB but this mobo says 1066/800MHz.

Anyway, here's the list.

Intel Pentium D 805 - 130.49

Aeneon by Infineon 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM - 73.31

Gigabyte GA-8I945GMF Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - 103.35

Western Digital 160GB WD1600JDRTL Serial ATA (SATA/150) 8MB - 58.09

The HD looks like a really sweet deal. Is it good? Is it compatible with my mobo and cpu choices?

Anyway, sorry for so many questions but thanks for any help. :)

I would get an AMD instead of an Intel (more expensive, less performance).
Also, the hard drive is not that great of a deal. Staples has a 200 GB Maxtor next week for $50 (might involve a mail in rebate, but their rebates are simple and fast)

Why Intel when AMD is killing them?

Are you planning on getting a case and PSU... because, you'll need those to build a PC. And make sure you pick a micro ATX compatible case, since that's the kind of mobo you're getting. The HDD will work with the mobo though.

EDIT* Nevermind, I see why you chose that kind of Ram.

And the processor, AMD Dual cores are better but they are also nearly twice as much.

Also OP, you should be fine dropping that CPU in there, though it doesn't state it on newegg for some reason I'm 99.9% sure that intel 945G chipsets are 1066/800/533 compatible.

Oh, I have a blue Chieftech case that I got from a yardsale. It came with a 450w PSU.

I'd get AMD, but the fact that they're more expensive scares me away.

Similarly priced AMD CPUs will out performed Intel CPUs. That is until Conroe is released (it seems to beat the crap out of AMD M2 but no one really knows until both products are finalized), Intel desktop CPUs are not worth getting right now.

Yaeh, I'd recommend holding off till the end of the year. Intel supposedly from all I have read has some chips coming out that are 60% faster than the current crop.

The Pentium D you spec'ed is helluva overclockable. I think it's the one that Tomshardware just did a writeup on.

Also...it's one of the cheapest dual cores on the market....Athlon's entry level is more expensive.

The only problem with that one is that the FSB is locked to 533...not 800.
