I bought ME1, and 2 a few weeks ago. I am playing through ME1 and not having a very good time. I'm stuck at the Benezia fight. I'm thinking of backtracking and getting more experience on another planet, because I get mauled by her every time.
I am so close to giving up and just starting with ME2, but everyone keeps telling me not to. So I guess I won't, but I have to say, every time It think about starting it up Benezia and the elevators make me wince. I just know it will take 15 minutes to walk out of where I am back to my ship. Ugh.
Any suggestions to make ME1 more enjoyable? I love the dialogue and the space anthropology stuff, but really hate Mako and Boss battles. Really looking forward to ME2.
You should definitely backtrack. I did the exact same thing during my first play through, got crushed by her 20+ times, and thus backtracked to another planet.
I believe it's because this is supposed to be the last planet you are really supposed to visit of the beginning 3 options. You can try to beat her, but I don't think they designed the story that way.
Also, HUGE WARNING TO ALL:
Be wary of saving your game inside an elevator!
Google: "Mass Effect 1 elevator glitch" and you will know what I am talking about.
I had to start over from scratch because of this and lost 8 hours!
Lesson learned: make many many multiple saves!!
Other than that small gripe, the game really picks up towards the end and after you get used to the combat. And of course, Mass Effect 2 simply builds on the experience even more -> ridiculously more, especially in the gameplay department.
