Are you fucking kidding me?

Langston Hughes "A Dream Deferred"
Emily Dickenson "Death"
Gwendolyn Brooks "We Real Cool" (short and sweet poem)
Edgar Allen Poe "The Raven" "Annabel Lee" (or any of his others)

Anything by the following:
Robert Frost
Sylvia Plath
T. S. Eliot ("The Hollow Men")
Maya Angelou
Walt Whitman
Shel Silverstein (especially for "The Perfect High" but that won't be appropriate for school) *Remember "Where the Sidewalk Ends" from when you were a kid?*

I always liked The Giving Tree. Most depressing "childrens" book ever.
