CAG PSN Gamesharing #2 - Find/Create a Gameshare Group & Gameshare FAQ

Status
Not open for further replies.
Anyone know if its possible to request a new thread from Cheapy? Nothing against OP but maybe it's possible to get someone more involved with gamesharing as the OP. That way, we can update it whenever we want without disturbing Millertime.
I'd do it, I already moderate (along with jlazenby1) another gameshare forum, and I'm often at CAG.
Should we start a new thread?
I believe we should, and if we decide to do so, we should have one "rule", so the thread is easier to surf through: every user would need to clean up his old/irrelevant posts once in a while.
How awesome if everyone took 5 minutes of their time and do like users NSYNC (4 total CAG posts), or myself (10, but 7 of them are undeletable) ?

Feel free to discuss the subject!
Yeah that's why i'll just leave it as is. A $4 loss won't hurt my pockets at all it's just the fact that he abused a site that basically gets you games for free. Some people don't know when they have a good thing and those people will never have anything in life.

EDIT: Badman827, I know you're viewing this thread without being signed in, that being said, refund me or not it doesn't matter. You're exposed and as for scamming for a $4 game, maybe you should go job hunting as soon as you wake up tomorrow. That is, if you're old enough to have a job.
Shawngreen's declarations before he was perma banned was something along the lines of "oh, this place is too good, I've scammed before but I won't here" LMAO, badman you loser! (btw, there probably both teens, judging by the "yo's" and overall spelling/lack of smarts)
I don't see why we can't start our own and have it eventually become stickied.
Well yes that is indeed possible but unless the old thread gets locked, we're just opening ourselves for trouble. Not everyone will be informed about it and will end up with tho threads.

We definitely need a mod to help us with this.
I'd be in with this. Is there any other threads, other than this one, that have gotten this big (800+ pages)?
I don't think so..the hp touchpad one is at about 500 pages right now..

bastiartadi, we'd just need to post the link to the new thread here, and advise people to stop posting on this one, that's all.
Then, a month or so later, ask a mod to close this one.

I have an issue with that rule. Not everybody views this site on a computer and it isn't very easy or timely to go through all old posts to delete old ones. besides, it kinda seems good to be able to go back and do research on a potential trade partner based on feedback of old posts and interactions with other cheap bastards... i mean cheap ass... gamers!

*Sorry... the joke was there, I had to go for it!*

In a perfect world, the OP would be a wiki where anyone can add their name if they are interested in a gameshare. It will be easier to make a group and it is assured that no one will get missed when a group is forming.

But of course, all it takes is one troll.

@meek
I still think we need a mod on this. Cheapy D himself closed the other thread. Besides, we need to at least inform a big guy that we're doing this.

That's all for me tonight folks. I'll check back again this thread tomorrow. If there's really an interest on this, I'll PM OP and ask him how we can proceed. Lemme finish my paper first, haven't written shit and it's 30% of my grade! Due tomorrow nevertheless!

And as for deleting old posts, I'm against it as well. I only do it whenever I have free time but making it mandatory is very difficult to manage like mentioned by Turk.

i list some of the names of the people ive delt with on my visitor message box in my profile. just incase theyre looking for references both ways.

I'm with Turk... I only view via mobile! :(

FOR SALE:

Dungeon Defenders. $3.

Beyond Good & Evil HD $2

Prince of Persia trilogy $8

Resident Evil 5 $5

Ok here's a couple scenarios:

1. Buy all 4, I knock the price down to $15
2. Buy the first 3, $10
3. 1, 2, and 4, price is $8

PM me if interested, will listen to any offer if it's reasonable!

hey it is a gamesharing group and i got the juices flowing, let's make some deals fellow cheap-asses!

Selling shares of the following:

Joe Danger & Marvel vs Capcom on 1 account - $5
Lara Croft Guardian of Light - $3

Btw, for what it's worth, badman827 bought a ME2 gameshare from me today... and so far transaction looks legit. It did seem like that guy just bought 20 gameshares though in the past 24hrs, so I have no idea what anyone would want with so many games....

dont worry, there'll never be any rules like that. This is a public forum, the moment you have to do something, to be able to post, is the moment this thread gets shut down.

I bought my copy used, so I would want the skate.create. If the rest of the potential group didn't want it, that'd be fine too.
dont worry, there'll never be any rules like that. This is a public forum, the moment you have to do something, to be able to post, is the moment this thread gets shut down.
This is how we get 800+ pages of unsurfable material
Thread isn't moderated, so we have to moderate it ourselves: exposing scammers when there's one (shawngreen, maybe also badman), and leaving the thread as empty of off-topic or old posting as possible.

Like TurkFebruary said, not every post needs to be deleted.
I'm all for leaving completed groups posts (useful to see who hosted, or to contact members if you want to buy a share), example: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8367110&postcount=7079

just not the unneccessary ones: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8366536&postcount=7068 (should have PM'd the guy in the first place...)

We'd limit the thread to 80-100 pages, without the need to make a new one ever/anytime soon; mods or admins would surely appreciate (and I can't be the only one, can I?).
It wouldn't be mandatory, just a suggestion, to help this great community!

Also, you're wrong, CAG isn't a public forum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_%28legal%29
but an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum.
In most Internet forums, your posts need to be approved before being posted, don't forget CheapyD, admins mods are doing us a FAVOR by letting us post and make groups (free).

For guys that surf CAG through mobiles, edit all your (deletable) posts into "delete" via phone, connect on CAG via ps3 browser, and delete said posts?

how is it not moderated, werent you just given a timeout by a mod? Anyways, unless youre just OCD or looking for a power trip, it really doesnt matter how long the thread gets, as it'll be appropriately closed when needed. The search function is there for a reason for those on a computer, and as has been stated this extra responsibility cant even be done by those on a mobile browser so its moot for them anyways.

Anyways good luck with the micro-managing, I really dont think people have that hard of a time scrolling down a page and looking for a keyword. Its definitely less time consuming than constant editing.
As was mentioned before, the wiki could possibly be used to make this simpler.
This is how we get 800+ pages of unsurfable material
Thread isn't moderated, so we have to moderate it ourselves: exposing scammers when there's one (shawngreen...), and leaving the thread as empty of off-topic or old posting as possible.

Like TurkFebruary said, not every post needs to be deleted! I'm all for leaving completed groups posts (useful to see who hosted, or to contact members if you want to buy a share), example: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8367110&postcount=7079
just not the unneccessary ones, i.e.: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8366536&postcount=7068 (should have PM'd the guy in the first place...)

We'd limit the thread to 80-100 pages, without the need to make a new one ever/anytime soon; mods/admins would surely appreciate (and I can't be the only one, can I?).
It wouldn't be mandatory, just a suggestion, to help this great community!

Also, you're wrong, CAG isn't a public forum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_%28legal%29
but an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum.
In most Internet forums, your posts need to be approved before being posted, don't forget CheapyD, admins and mods are doing us a FAVOR by letting us post and make groups (free).

For guys that surf CAG through mobiles, edit all your (deletable) posts into "delete" via phone, connect on CAG via ps3 browser, and delete said posts?
Using ps3 to delete is still extremely time-consuming. I just deleted 11 old posts... It took over half an hour!

Deleting posts shouldn't be a "rule." Honestly, some simple suggestions to keep the thread page count down are these:

1. Post a maximum of 2-3 times per day [deleting posts and then reposting content does not free up a post, because then people will just spam like that]

2. PM instead of posting if the information isn't relevant to more than one person

3. Signature entries should either be repeated for people who choose not to view sigs or clarified if you are going to post like that

4. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd posts should be dedicated to separate information in the new thread. EX: 1st- FAQ/General info/Intro.; 2nd- completed groups list with hosts as well as NSYNC's password, size, and error code help list; 3rd- list of scammers from around the web, suggestions to avoids scams/how to know it's a scam, and what to do if you are scammed.

Other than those suggestions, I think the new thread will be just fine with the same setup as before.

@Meek
This. It is near impossible to limit this to 100 pages if we don't wikify it. People will repost and repost and repost. We can't ban them for reposting because this thread isn't moderated as you said. I propose the same exact forum with addition to Obsid's suggestions.

@edson
meek's definition of moderate is the fact that a mod is checking (and moderating the post) of the thread constantly ala PSN code trading thread. Yes the mods come now and then because that's what mods do.
And we're not proposing a new thread just for the sake of having one. It's more of so we can edit the OP whenever needed. The OP isn't exactly in the gamesharing scene anymore and it would be better if one of the usual can takeover.

To everyone, I'll PM the OP and a mod tomorrow and see what they think.

Sorry Meek, I have to do it:

There's another group that recently imposed a semi-similar rule. Feel free to visit for a first-hand view of a website that's as close to dead as you can get!

a) someone ratted us out

b) it's about giving back to the community dude! want to be a CAG, or cheap, ass, gamer?

c) search function for finding old groups stinks! you have to go through pages...

With that said, after your nice comments about my "power trip", the next group I host, if you're in, don't be surprised if your spot ends up being taken by someone else!
Maybe if you were absent for a week, you'd understand my POV.

that's why I put "rule" into " ", and talked about SUGGESTION.

2. I'm hoping guys did PM first, and that they also chose to post to enhance their chances; but it could/should be deleted after he found what he was looking for.
3. barely know where sigs are, probably not the only one
4. great idea

Not sure what "wikify" means or stands for (wikipedia?). As long as it doesn't bring scammers, it could be an idea.

Why is there such a big deal being made about this thread getting big.

Just handle it like the other threads in other parts of the forums.

Amazon Warehouse deals
Kmart Gamer Thread
etc

Once it gets so large, shut it down and start up a new one.
Doesn't seem to be an issue with the other threads - so run this one the same way.
.
if you're on the mobile CAG's group, it doesn't apply to you. If you're not, not only you're cheap, an ass and a gamer, but you're also lazy? 8^p PM'd you.

Nvm then, doesn't apply to mobile/ps3 only users.
Once it gets so large, shut it down and start up a new one
it's what we'll do eventually, we're thinking out loud about the suggestions for a new OP (and someone more involved in gamesharing than MillerTime, so we could regularly update it), so stuff like this can be posted:

Error code 80029780?

1. Go to Account Management > Account Information > Sign-In ID (E-mail Address) > and enter your password.

2. Enter another e-mail or simply delete a letter or number.

3. Go to PlayStation Store and download content.

4. Restore original e-mail for other members of the group.

PM to update list accordingly. Whoever has a password please contact the user(s) in parentheses. If you're not a host, don't let that stop you from helping another CAG. Thanks.

Not sure what "wikify" stands for (wikipedia?). As long as it doesn't bring scammers, it could be an idea.
Deleting posts as a rule/suggestion/whatever doesn't work without a moderator cleaning up. Have you not read the posts of the various moderators who go through the actual rule-based threads and say they've deleted hundreds of dupe posts? Simply put, people don't seem to want to delete posts because of the various reasons others have already stated. People are going to take the easiest route available and that is leaving their posts up.

Wikify- when threads are made into miniature "wiki" or repositories that everyone, who is a registered user, can edit with a log of changes and who changed what. Only the first post is a wiki post, so people can update the thread with new information without relying on the OP.

Agreed. Since the PS Store doesn't update everyday, the people who repost, quote and chat amongst each other are the one's keeping the thread alive until Tuesdays. You cut/limit our post and things fall apart. Constantly reposting the same thing for sale helps IMO. It drives share prices down as people become impatient/competitive, encourages trading and makes us comfortable with one another. Lurkers also want RECENT timestamps and could care less about keeping the thread organized. Most aren't going to look back multiple pages, use the search function or bother PM'ing someone on an old post. A passive buyer/seller isn't going to cut it in a thread like this. It is what it is.

Bottom line, we're not a big enough community to be forcing these type of posting restrictions on each other. I could see if maybe we had a hundred ACTIVE posters per day, but right now, it's silly. Leave it for a mod to decide or everyone will just splinter off. Even worse, some might join a long-term groupshare and vote, LOL! If we do anything, let's try to bring more people to the thread and kick the scammers out. I admit, it looks like I screwed up with badman827, but I'll give almost anyone a shot if it means one more person.

A lot of people screwed up when it came to badman. It was mentioned in the forum when he returned that his name was on a scammer list but it fell on deaf ears! (Well... eyes, anyways). Long and the short of it is that it wasn't the fault of any one person. As for what you say about dialogue, you put into words exactly what I couldn't. To me, if this board has anyone who should be a mod, it should be you, my friend.

wikipedia would open the floodgates for scammers. in a perfect world there wouldn't be scammers. but by keeping this a tight knit community scams are minimal, miraculously. so why rock the boat?

iwarboY I don't think any non-member could see it!

I feel you misunderstood my suggestion! I was simply hoping more CAG's would do like you and me, which is delete their old posts.
Thread would stay as active as today, the page count would just stop going up that much/that quickly!
Never said "rule should be 1 post/thread/user"! just suggested that respective users do their auto-moderating once in a while...

You want more members? I actually thought we were too much (or not well enough organized! :p), cos I have some potential -legit- members.

IMHO it's not broke so don't fix it by trying to reinvent the wheel!

This thread is thriving and I love how it stays alive throughout the week. If we limit posts etc we could run the risk of hurting our awesome sharing community which would be awful.

If we want to modify the OP, ban scammers etc., why don't we reach out to CheapyD as a group and see if we can nominate someone like NSYNC to have mod ability for this thread. He could modify OP/Wiki (not Wikipedia folks just the ability for every user to update OP) and have the ability to ban scammers etc. To me this is a good option.

Lets not change this thread so much we lose this strong sharing community!

I have only been sharing for a little over a month but I love it and this community is awesome. I love chatting trading etc in this thread!

iwarboY I don't think any non-member could see it!
Agreed. Since the PS Store doesn't update everyday, the people who repost, quote and chat amongst each other are the one's keeping the thread alive until Tuesdays. LOL, says the guys who's been here 3 months! and who uses a mobile :p

doesn't apply to you pal! it's exactly because of the LACK of organization, and some members laziness (excessive number of pages probably has something to do with it)
There's another group that recently imposed a semi-similar rule. Feel free to visit for a first-hand view of a website that's as close to dead as you can get!
You're talking about a site that is/was full of scammers, wasn't moderated for a while, and where no PP is used (=limited on number of trades anyway), you think it leads to people staying? LOL

Maybe my "bad" habit of bringing people from there has something to do with it, too? you, cwinters, jlazen, harley... shall I go on? only QJ guy I know that was a CAG member before me is notalunchbox!
wikipedia would open the floodgates for scammers. in a perfect world there wouldn't be scammers. but by keeping this a tight knit community scams are minimal, miraculously. so why rock the boat?
Reminding everyone the lack of organization led to badman scamming, again. I called him out, bustmagz did, too, our posts were overlooked... sorry for appearing like a control freak, just trying to make this place even better guys!

So how about having the first post be wiki? Someone would have to keep an eye on it, but it could be a good idea. I'd suggest keeping the sections that are already there, but collapsing them behind a spoiler tag.

NSYNC could keep the information that he/she keeps putting up on the first post - it is useful for lots of us!

And, finally, there would be a section for accused / confirmed scammers. It would list the name, and have links to the appropriate posts in the thread where they were called out / discussion occurred.
