CAG Star Trek Online Fleet/game discussion thread

Forgot to add, I will be playing on Friday after work, so I can help with the fleet thing. I think I can help give folks some tactics advice as I probably got the farthest in beta (based on what peeps have posted). Did anyone start as an engineer or science captain? I'm extremely curious to know what bonus abilities you were given as you leveled up. I like the tactical officer ones, but I feel like the science or engineer ones would be extremely nice in comparison (and useful).

I will probably make a borg science captain and joined trill engineer at the start. Maybe make an unknown retardo goofball as my tactical like I did in beta. I hope they keep his look for headstart, it was hard to make him that goofy and cool. Ok, time to work on Mass Effect 1 so I can be done by headstart :)

I really like the Ceti Alpha part period, the G could be whatever.

I had an engineer alt that teamed up really well with the Escort class ship. There were some serious bonuses to put together and helped with the battles, especially with shield management. What sucks is you wont get access to any of extras until after you get your retail key. I do think you will get the Borg one in the head-start. I'll do Borg tactical and joined trill engineer as my two mains.

Yeah, I gotta do a Joined Trill too--looking at JT Science maybe. But I will start out as a borg engineer or borg tactical for headstart.

Anyone know where I can get a Del Taco code for that in-game pet code? I thought I saw a forum topic on here, or somewhere. Anyone know who I can PM for one of those by any chance? I'd greatly appreciate it, and thank you in advance if you know.

I like Ceti Alpha... as well. A lot.

Ceti Alpha Group
Ceti Alpha Galactic
Ceti Alpha Galaxia
Ceti Alpha Garrison

I like those more than 'gang'. More regal.

Ceti Alpha Gamma works for me. Opinions on that variation?

Zeldafanatic, it would take you 5 minutes to set up a Steam account, and it's a very useful thing to have as a PC gamer... When we start the real web page, that's going to require you to fill out a form too.

Okay, let's narrow it down to these two choices:

Ceti Alpha Gamma

or

Ceti Alpha Garrison.

I like Gamma because it sounds like a college honors society, all class. But Garrison is a kind of group, so that's good too.

Garrison defined:

–noun
1. a body of troops stationed in a fortified place.
2. the place where such troops are stationed.
3. any military post, esp. a permanent one.
–verb (used with object)
4. to provide (a fort, town, etc.) with a garrison.
5. to occupy (a fort, post, station, etc.) with troops.
6. to put (troops) on duty in a fort, post, station, etc.

That would give our fleet a more military focus, which is appropriate for Star Trek Online's war-oriented storyline. I like the exploration/diplomacy aspect of Star Trek better than their military storylines, though.

Star Killr, your suggestion actually sounds very cool, but would fit better with a fantasy-themed game, methinks. Anyway, no more non-joke suggestions, people! Just vote. :)

I'd go with Gamma over Garrison. "Garrison" usually refers to land troops, whereas Star Trek usually follows a naval theme.

"Group" makes more sense with the naval leanings. A "strike group" or "battle group" is a group of ships assigned to a specific task, usually containing a carrier.

I'm still partial to Coalition Alpha Gamma, but if it's down to those two choices, I'd go with Ceti Alpha Gamma (or Ceti Alpha Group, if it's still on the table).

I know eastx put it at Ceti Alpha Gamma/Garrison but I also agree that the Ceti Alpha Group would possibly be the best fit instead of Garrison.

I like Ceti Alpha Gamma as well, but I really like the military feel of Ceti Alpha Garrison. I think Ceti Alpha Group sounds a bit too much like we're a splinter corporation and not with Starfleet.

I'm voting for Ceti Alpha Garrison. :)

Group is too weak a word, by the way. Gamma and Garrison both sound more forceful.

Right now it's about 60% in favor of Garrison, but I agree with whoever said that it's more of a ground term and less of a naval/ship term. But hey, if it ends up being the most popular word, we'll use it.

Yeah, I would have responded sooner but I was super busy all-day after I woke up (I had just worked a graveyard).

But I do consider starting on the site a top priority! And I'm very thankful for your help.

Ready for warp speed, Captain.

Hey Mathew, Jp and I are discussing the website and I will email you shortly.

My first two characters shall be... A reclaimed Borg, natch, and maybe an Andorian. Always liked the blue guys.

Reclaimed Borg and Joined Trill for me. If there's a third it'll be unknown alien freak :) Not sure if reclaimed borg will be based on human or if every option is available (i.e. it'll become my unknown alien freak). I'm fairly confident that I will want to re-roll several times because I'm a min/max type person and they don't have any documentation really about their skills. Also, I don't know what class-specific skills you'll get once you hit max level. I liked my tactical skills, but they weren't "all that". Nice in a pinch, but nothing I would feel bad about losing. I'm eagerly awaiting the creation of spreadsheet matrices and other fun tools to pimping out your character :)

I'm planning a run soon hopefully. My Dad is currently in the hospital so things have been pretty hectic this week. I'll definitely try and make a run as soon as possible.

The CAG Fleet website is going to be http://www.cagfleet.com

Ceti Alpha Garrison won the vote, though I reserve the right to change it later.

Thanks to Mathewrex for his assistance in building the site and Jp for helping with rules and procedures!

Sorry, I accepted an FR from one of you, but I have no idea what your CAG name is. Anyway, I saw you log in to the game and out of curiosity I did too. Looks like a small 58M patch can pushed over, although the actual game is not online yet.

Yeah, got the 58MB patch earlier this afternoon. I've been launching the game into the client launcher every so often to see when headstart access would start. 1PM EST, 10AM PST tomorrow.

We still have over 12 hours left, jp. lol.

But good idea to pop in every so often to see if any more patches can be DL'd. The faster I can get in and get the tutorial over with, the better.

Yeah, now that I have an actual time I'll stop. I'll probably try again around 11EST tomorrow to see if they have another patch there.

I'm desperately hoping that there's a huge improvement in the documentation of the skills and the benefits they give you. I feel like I'm going to shaft myself without understanding what each skill does. I heard the skill tree will get a complete makeover, maybe before headstart. Tomorrow will be really interesting!

Woops. Just realized someone already posted that.

As far as skills go, I can't remember completely, but did the side panel not explain them fairly well?
