CAGbag: Get your questions answered on CAGcast

Cheapy and Wombat, are either of you interested in any sports?

Also, how often do you guys pick up video games(Not including Downloadable Games/Content)?
Thanks, I think I'm gonna go with a PSP, I might be able to get one for 50 bucks.
Ok, Glad I helped.

Hey Cheapy!
I was wondering how you met your wife, and what made you decide to move to Tokyo with her, especially considering how little Japanese you spoke. I can understand wanting to cross the world for the one you love, but I would love to hear how the decision was made for you. I'm a relatively new listener (since about episode 85 or so), so I apologize if this had been answered on the show already. Thanks!

hey cheapy I know you have a ps3 and I do not know when the release for the msg4 ps3 bundle is for japan but when it comes out would you buy the bundle just for the game if the game sells out otherwise and if you do that could be a good contest prize, the ps3.

Hey Love your show I listen to it like a religion. Any way my question is will you guys buy Super Smash Bros and play against your Wives ?
Also Congrats Wombat on the baby I am sure you will be a great father like Cheapy D

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

Later this year I will be taking a trip to Tokyo and I was wondering what area I should stay in. What areas of Tokyo would you visit to get the true Japanese experience.

Also, there have been talks of the Apartment tour.... where is it??

All the best Stakis

PS... Hope Mrs. Wombat is feeling better soon!!

I'm looking at the Xbox reliability poll, and it strikes me that maybe somebody misquoted whoever gave that 16% failure rate. Somebody had a slip of the tongue and maybe it sounded like 16, but they really meant 60...

While not scientific, I would say that this is more likely accurate for a sampling of hardcore console gamers. You know there are a lot of people who buy a 360 for one game, get tired of that game, and almost never turn it on again. For those people, a launch unit's working just fine.

The next time Wombat's in the room with a Microsoft Exec, I'd like to get a comment on those numbers. :) It really is quite a large sample; well over 1000 responses.

Best piece of advice for Wombat for playing drums on Rock Band…

I read an article by one of the Harmonix folks who's a 'real' drummer, with some tips on playing drums. This piece of advice transformed my drum skills almost overnight.

When playing the kick drum, keep the pedal depressed inbetween hits i.e. keep your foot resting on the pedal, then when you need a bass drum kick, quickly lift the foot up, then put it back on.

It requires you to be a little more forward looking, but it's waaaay less effort on your leg.

Hey guys...great show as always. I'm glad you mentioned Apple possibly moving into gaming and I do agree with you that it would most likely be in the casual space.

However...I sometimes use my Ipod Touch to watch video and while doing so I can't help but think that it has the perfect form factor for a handheld. All it would need is some controls added to the sides of the screen. It's nice and slim and definitely portable. I kind of feel this is where the PSP missed the boat. If the system didn't have UMDs as media they could probably have a similar form factor. I'm not super crazy about not having physical media but with the Ipod Touch already at 32GB and a decent front end like ITunes its hard to deny the possibilites. It seems as Sony is finally starting to move on the PSP store front so could this be the next step?

I think the biggest factor for a handheld is the portability and it would be nice to not have to swap discs. I know some people buy the umds and then dump them on a memory stick via custom firmware...so people do want that accessibility.

If Microsoft was going to do a handheld they should go this route...they already have a pretty robust infastructure so it probably wouldn't be too hard to accomplish this.

I know a big deterrent is also the retail space as retailers frown upon digital downloads but you still have to sell the hardware and you can do your points cards or $$$ amount cards similar to Itunes.

Thoughts?

Hey guys. I was wondering, and would also love to hear from the CAG community as well. Are we just going to assume that the Bourne game is going to be crap because it is a video game based on a movie (and we all know how those games tend to be sooooooooo amazing) or will it be good because I found the video trailers have been impressive.

Also Viking. Crap? What do you guys think?

Thanks guys.

In the days of your youth, did you to ever want to work in the games industry, and at what age did you consider yourselves "gamers"?

Wombat, I would love to hear your impressions on the Justice League: The New Frontier Blu-ray you just purchased.

Cheapy: Do you think Sony should get more credit for their games being Region Free?

Cheapy n' Wombat: Have you ever considered going back giving Halo 3 a try? As far as i'm concerned Cheapy only has a japanese version of Halo 3, and therefore is unable to play online, or what's it all about ? Perhaps i just haven't listened well enough when turning on the podcast, but it seems to me like cheapy at least, haven't event tried the Halo 3 multiplayer. How about grabbing a cheap copy of the US/EU version and try the multiplayer out?

I personally think that the multiplayer is great, and it is something that you have to try at least once before you decide to put the game back on your shelf and go on playing CoD4.

Wombat: I dunno if this has been asked or not, but I'll give it a shot: Where did you get your online handle? Are you a furry; did someone compare your appearance to a wombat; or do you just like that animal in particular?

I'm hoping for the first, I mean after all you do fit the criteria for being a fur! ;)

Cheapy,

As you know, we are in the dog days of the U.S. presidential primaries here in the States, and I recently discovered CAG's active (and quite intelligent) political discussions in the Vs. forum. At the same time, I was reading an article about U.S. nationals living overseas and voting in the primaries, and wondered if you had done so? Do you plan to vote in the general election? I personally feel voting is a very important (maybe the most important) aspect of U.S. citizenship, even for those living abroad.

Don't feel obligated to discuss which candidate you favor, though you and Wombat are, of course, free to make endorsements. ;)

Hey Cheapy, first off, have you tried vagina wash yet?

But, anyways, do you think Nintendo is really planning on doing anyting about the Wii shortage? I know you have talked about it before, but have your views changed at all? Because I really want one, but theres is just NONE around.

P.S. congrats again to Wombat!!!

this is a question for both of you

About a month ago, I downloaded Rez HD, and I had Rock Band in my drive. As i was ejecting the disk, my 360 red ringed, and I saw a warning screen on the TV. I reset the 360, and it was perfectly fine. I was wondering if maybe some people didn't try to do this and just sent the 360 to Microsoft. I have owned my 360 since about January 2007, and that is the closest I have had with my 360 breaking down.

Cheapy and Wombat,

Do you guys think that some game companies should continue a game series for its fans, despite mediocre sales? Elite Beat Agents and Ouendan come to mind. EBA sold about 300,000 copies which for a Nintendo published DS title is certainly not alot. The series still continued in Japan with a sequel to Ouendan and it sold much more than its predecessor.

As for EBA's lacking sales, was it the idea of secret agents dancing to bad 80's music? The terrible box-art? Nintendo even put out a commercial and promoted DS Download Stations with it. Should Nintendo and INIS keep trying?

Also, I don't recall you two ever mentioning buying or playing these games on past podcasts. If you haven't you must find it somewhere at bargain price. By far my favorite DS game.

Thanks

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,

First, I have to give congrats to Wombat on the new baby before I ask a few questions. Since Cheapy mentioned that Tai was starting to recognize the controller in Cheapy's hands and touch it, it got me wondering that if you could pick the first game(s) that your kid would play, what would they be?

What do you guys think of the news that the developers of N+, which has a great and easy to use level editor, had to remove their user-created level sharing network at the last minute because Microsoft feared the dick levels clogging the game's tubes?

And finally, do you guys actually read each CAGcast thread from the first to last post or do you just skim the thread for mentions of your name for an ego boost?

Hi Cheapy and Wombat, I was wondering if the Japanese Whaling Research fleet controversy was getting a lot of coverage in the media in Japan.

Are they being potrayed as the little fleet standing up for the rights of whalers everywhere against the terrorist rotten butter attacks from Greenpeace?

I was just wondering as over here the Japanese seem to get a lot of negative press on this issue and I was wondering if the Japanese media spin it a different way.

Thanks Guys,

Yeah, I have also been waiting for the apartment tour ever since he mentioned it on the office tour.

Hey Cheapy and Wombat, when I put a game into my 360 it reads it like it's a DVD and comes up with "to play this disc, put it into an xbox 360 console" in about 6 languages. Then after I eject it then put it back in it reads just fine. Has this happened to either of you or any fellow CAGs and should I start worrying at all?

Hey cheapyd and wombat , i know that cheapyd has a youtube acount and iam assuming wombat does and i was wonder what subscriptions you had if you had any ? also wombat have you been to a n.y rangers game is it true that its really dark in the arena ???

thnx

I'm am so fucking pissed of that Cheapy's YouTube account has been cancelled. I love Cheapy's videos and am a religious subscriber and probably more pissed off than Cheapy (well maybe not but still very pissed off). YouTube sent me an email talking about copyright on one of my misheard lyrics videos about 2 weeks ago and I thought my account was going but all they did was put an advertisment next to the video (really sorry to rub that in your face Cheapy).

lol That was funny when Cheapy said "Army Of Two on PS3 and Xbox 360" with that long pause that Cheapy described as his time to breathe.

Oh no, here comes another 'Which system should I buy?' question...
I don't have any interest in playing online. Given this, and the fact that you've now gone through two xbox360s, do you still recommend the 360 over the PS3? I'm looking to get one or the other in the next couple of months.

Good morning Cheapy and evening to Wombat.

With all this talk about the pronunciation of karaoke on the CAGcast, what are both of your favorite tunes to belt out at karaoke?

I've been going to a local karaoke night at a bar on campus every week for the past 9 months and have a few go to songs:

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler
"A Little Respect" by Erasure
"Happy Together" by The Turtles

and if i'm especially drunk and have my crew, we do a mean Bohemian Rhapsody including a stage show that really pleases the crowd.

Hey Cheapy, just wondering if you ever think about moving back to the states. Or if you are thinking about moving back in the future.

Have either of you watched the trailer or tech demo for the new Alone in the Dark game that's on XBL and elsewhere. Like Midway's Stranglehold, this game looks like it's going to be good where as everything else they publish is shit.

P.S. Ikaruga (GC) and Indigo Prophecy are the only two games that Atari publushed in this century that is worth anyone's time.

Hey Cheapy D and Wombat. I'm going through some repair troubles on my 360, too. After 20 months it craps out on me while loading a RockBand song. But so far, using the towel trick I've had this thing avoiding death for the last week. But I'd thought I'd like to let you know about the 59% failure rate in question. There is a thing called Survey Response Bias. Where people who actually care will vote. Meaning that of the many who have working 360's didn't bother to vote as much as those who have been screwed.

But anyway, thought I'd use my shitty senior class statistics knowledge.

*Fingers crossed for 360*

Also I was curious to know since more and more info is coming out about the music in GTA 4, I was wondering what kind of music will you be listening before you're about to bust a cap in sum peep's ass.

I Know I'll be listening to the Soul/Funk radio station.

Hey guys, on the Kojima Productions Report podcast, they have said that they recommend replaying Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 (mostly 2) before MGS4 hits in preparation for the story line.

My question to you: Is there a specific game series that you tend to go back to and replay before new installments are about to be released, be it for the story lines or to simply get pumped up?

I like to here more about series of games from older consoles that are continuing on to next gen consoles.

Sincerly,
Emerald Crown

Hey Cheapy and Wombat. I've been playing Rock Band like crazy and I am hooked on the drums. I've been having so much fun that I'm even considering picking up a real drum set on the cheap (of course) and may even try to take lessons if I can find a way to fit it into my budget. I was just wondering, have you guys ever enjoyed something so much in a video game that you wanted to go out and learn how to do it in real life? Of course, I am not talking about games like GTA or Condemned, but are there any music or sports games that got you off the couch and into the real world for a while?

And Cheapy, I know you do some DJ'ing every now and then, would you be interested in a DJ Hero game? Rumor is there might be one in the works.

~Mocha

hey cheapy i couple of weeks ago yout told me (in a pm ) that you had a trip to vancouver i was just wondering what your favourite parts of the trip were and what you saw ?

Cheapy and Wombat.....Do you guys ever find yourself thinking of a game in many years past that you never finished, but wished you did.? I am currently playing Wasteland for the Commodore 64 and am close to finishing it now.

This game is Really Old school and I was wondering if you guys have gone Way back to finish any unfinished business with your gaming?

Ninja better say Hotel Dusk.

With so much controversy about game reviews lately (example: GameSpot- Assassins Creed review) I thought of a suggestion for the Cag Gaming Forum. How about we start our own review system?

First we could start a forum topic for each new game under the conresponding system, add a poll numbered 1 - 10 allowing Cags to rate the game thus giving us an average score/percentage. Then they could post their own review of the game in the topic telling their rating and why they gave it. The info would be useful to other Cags who are looking for fellow mwmber reviews and it could be used in the CAG Cast.

You touched on Nintendo's less than steller online system again in CAGCast 110 and it got me thinking. Is this really a Nintendo problem or is this a Nintendo of Japan problem? We all know that Japanese gamers, as a whole, are pretty "meh" about the whole online experience and Japanese developers are not necessarily known for their robust online options. Hell, Hotshot Golf 5 for Japan had actual tee times for online play that you had to show up for.

The majority of decisions that are made by Nintendo are coming from NoJ. I also assume that Sony of Japan is making most of the decisions as far as Sony's console and online strategy. Is it a coincidence that both companies which are based out of Japan are making some strange decisions when it comes to their online strategy?

I really think that the indifference of Japanese gamers towards online play is what is causing the strange decisions that both Nintendo and Sony have made. Sony seems to be going in the right direction now, but they are facing strong competition from Xbox Live so they almost have to do it.

Cheapy, what is your take on this? Do you think there is any truth to this?

Hey Wombat and Cheapy, have either of you been keeping up with or heard of Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures? It's an MMO coming out for PC and 360 that's supposed to have real time combat, which will hopefully make it's gameplay similar to God of War and less press a button, wait a minute traditional MMO style. Graphically it looks excellent and you can decapitate and even chop off enemies limbs making it even more badass. What are your impressions?

Do you think that video games with be a major topic in 2008 and if it will be as much of a controversial subject as it was in 2008??

Hey Cheapy and Wombat,
I always heae you guys dissing the JRPG genre on the cast. I was wondering what JRPGs you guys have played and which ones, if any, you have actually enjoyed.

Cheapy, I noticed that in Japanese porn the genitals are always blurred out. Tell me, did your penis become mosaic looking on the flight over to Japan or does it happen gradually as you live there longer?
