CAGLS: Madden 13 Gentlemen's League - We Finished! Thanks for Playing!

Ya nitpicking is the only way... plus with everyone having different opinions what one person.considers perfect other may not. Madden will never be perfect and no league ever will be either but for the most part the league rules are as good as u will find any where else sim league wise of course. Everyone just needs to just keep a open mind. Plus coding games cant be an easy task. Im just glad that now.days after the game is released they can go back and patch some of the mistakes back in the older games before internet updates u were just screwed

Good game man!!

Off-topic, but I gotta post about this somewhere. So, I pre-ordered the new Dead Island game on Amazon back in March. A couple weeks ago, I notice that there's a promo to get a $10 Amazon Instant Video credit for pre-ordering the game (in addition to the steelbook and the other goodies). I didn't remember seeing that when I placed my order, but I'm like "Oh, cool. I guess I'll get that too."

I got the game on Tuesday and haven't gotten the $10 credit yet. I chatted with an Amazon rep about it, who told me he'd need to forward it on to a "Promotions and Marketing Specialist", and I'd hear something back in a day or two. Well, they got back to me today...to let me know that since I placed my pre-order before that promo started, I don't get it.

Apparently, what I should have done was cancel my original order and then re-place it (pointless). The beauty of it is, the promo is actually still live until tomorrow. Sooo...yeah, I just placed the order again, and I'll return the new game they send me under the old order number. Get ready to feel the long, hard cock of common sense, Amazon. I don't know what's happened to their customer service the past year or two. But it's definitely on a downward trend.

Why wouldn't you have done that anyway? Usually if I see a preorder promo on Amazon and I'm not sure I have it I just check my active orders and see if the promo is mentioned in my order.

Also I loved the first Dead island but every single review I have read said that this one is horrible an very very very repetitive.

Great game man! It was a lot of fun. The first pick gave me a lot of momentum. It seemed like after the first pick my run game finally started working. I am looking forward to the second game!

I didn't do it because usually Amazon adjusts older pre-orders to reflect any changes that may have happened (price match or otherwise). And really, what sense does it make to deny a promotion to customers who were willing to commit to you upfront...ESPECIALLY when you factor in that the promo is still live. Now, they're going to give me the promotion anyway and pay to have a game returned to them (not to mention the extra work for their warehouse workers). It's just piss poor business sense.

Yeah, but if you look, a lot of people said the same thing about the first game. I don't expect a masterpiece. As long as it's on par with the first game, I'll be happy.

Just messaged the Cowboys about playing. It's going to be difficult those as I'm going to be running around tomorrow, but I think I can play early. Later tonight is a possibility too.
Anybody heard from the Panthers? Sent a Pm yesterday haven't heard back, tonight's the last night I can play
I'm pretty sure he was on auto last week (and probably still is). If you don't hear from him, just go ahead and play it.

I dunno. I'm liking how things are turning out. Goldson/Barron at S. banks/Revis at CB make me hopeful.

How is it?
I play 2K12. From what I've read 13 is just a roster update. Nothing changed. 12 is an AMAZING game.

Ahh ok thanks man. I may end up getting 13 living in Houston as that is probably a big transition with the uniforms and the AL switch in th newer one. I grew up playing all the Triple Play games from EA (ironically the best baseball games ever made in my opinion, anyone remember MVP baseball?) and I've literally bought and sold a play station 3 just for MLB the show. I don't want to go that route so having said that is 2k series worth it?

I LOVED Triple Play/MVP. I have MVP 04 for my 360 and toss it in every now and then to play through a dynasty. Anybody remember the old Triple Play home run derbys where you played on the moon or in a living room? those were the best!

I personally hate The Show. I play games to relax. Not get stressed because I have to do 30 motions to throw to first base.

2K series is a lot of fun. Nice simple baseball game. When the price drops to around 20, ill be picking it up.

I got 2K11 for 360 when it launched and had so many games freeze on me. Have heard 12 and 13 are similar so I've held off.

That makes me a little more optimistic then. Maybe I'll snag a cheap copy of 12 or 13 soon.

Also, Bucs win a completely uneventful game over the CPU Panthers. No idea how some of you guys stomp the CPU the way you do (Troy's was 47-3 I think)

I responded by saying that I haven't been very available the past few days either so if we can't get a game we will just Sim the game. I don't want to get a easy W against the CPU if we both weren't around.

GpNinja and I have been in communication almost every day. Our schedules just haven't matched up very well. He should be getting off of work soon though, so I'm hoping we can get our game in this afternoon. Depending on how the Jones-Sonnen fight goes tonight, I might be too hyped up to even think about Madden, haha.

O.O

I am horribly sorry for what I have done. D:

I've thrown maybe 25 hail maries this year's game and I think that was the only one that got caught. And no idea what happened to your DB on the TD.

Wow.

EDIT: On a positive note, Seahawks show some signs of life in this game. Played well, ahead the majority of the game, blew it at the end on a missed FG and gave up the supposed GW drive with :10 left. Took the knee on the kickoff. Hail Mary to Boldin to the ~30 (whaaaaaaaat). TD throw to Rice with :00 on the clock, he flat out beat the DB and had no safety help. This is after an entire game where I didn't get any deep passes except for YAC breakaways.

Wow.

If I hadn't engineered the perfect two minute drive I'd be less upset. Going up 4 with ten seconds left was ideal. That Hail Mary was ridiculous.

Lexxon, you and I always play the best games. Between last seasons game and this one, I think we matchup perfectly. Good luck to you the rest of the season, hope to play you some more in madden 25 :)

EDIT: perhaps this is my karmic payback for beating Dark Rider on a Hail Mary last season. Sorry Dark Rider ;)

Indeed, we had a great game last year too with the Wild Card on the line. Best of luck to you as well! Games like this make me want to come back next year, while this whole Year 3 has made me feel the opposite (because I'm a sore loser, obviously!)

GG my offensive sucked I had to improvize the whole time. Forcing those 2 passes is what lost me the game if I didn't throw those 2ints I would have maybe had field goal trys on both possessions.

Titans - 24
Bills - 21

The Titans escaped Buffalo with a close win. After a shootout in the 1st half, the game slowed down a lot and defense took over in the 2nd half. Fortunately, I was able to make my 10 point lead hold up, as a 4th quarter TD by the Bills was the only scoring in the 2nd half.

I started to get worried that the tide was going to turn against me in this one. After Ted Ginn took a kickoff to the house, Eric Weems had TD Envy...and after a really nice juke move, found the open field and took it to the endzone, himself. Unfortunately, a holding penalty moved the ball all the way back to the 26. Then, on defense, one of GP's drives was kept alive thanks to a very odd pass interference call, where I was just charging the ball with Colin McCarthy, and didn't even think I made contact with the receiver. Thankfully, those plays didn't prove to be the difference in the game. Very close game otherwise. gg, GpNinja!

Titans
Jake Locker - 6-14, 163 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT
Chris Johnson - 19 att, 124 yds, 1 TD, 1 rec, 10 yds
Jared Cook - 2 rec, 27 yds
Davone Bess - 1 rec, 65 yds, 1 TD
Tommie Campbell - 4 tackles, 1 INT
Markelle Martin - 1 tackle, 1 INT
Jason McCourty - 1 tackle, 1 INT, 1 TD
Pat Sims - 2 tackles, 1 sack
Kamerion Wimbley - 2 tackles, 1 sack

Bills
Ryan Fitzpatrick - 9-23, 151 yds, 2 TDs, 3 INTs, 2 att, 15 yds
Fred Jackson - 7 att, 34 yds, 2 rec, 24 yds
Felix Jones - 5 att, 21 yds
Anthony Fasano - 2 rec, 42 yds
Steve Smith - 2 rec, 27 yds
Mario Williams - 1 rec, 9 yds, 1 TD
Stevie Johnson - 1 rec, 19 yds, 1 TD
Kelvin Shephard - 4 tackles, 1 TFL
Nick Barnett - 4 tackles, 1 TFL
Derek Cox - 1 tackle, 1 INT

One other thing I wanted to bring up, I think this is the first time I've played GpNinja, but I noticed he does A LOT of defensive audibling and moving his defensive players almost constantly before the ball is snapped (pretty much every play). I get making adjustments, and trying to counter what your opponent is showing you...but at times it felt like he was trying to make sure his players were in motion when the ball is snapped (which we all know gives them a jump on the offensive line). One time, he did this with Nick Barnett, kind of waggling him back and forth (though he was on the line), and when I snapped the ball, he was in the backfield, tackling Locker before he could even handoff the ball (but for some reason, it didn't count as a sack). What's the general feeling on this? I know BV did a lot of this with the LB he was usering in last year's game...and I know people argue it's a timing thing. But moving everyone in the box several times before the snap? There were even a few times where he was moving players one at a time, inching one player closer to the other, pulling another player off the line, etc. What's the reasoning behind this, other than to confuse the offensive line into not knowing who to block?

EDIT - Before this goes crazy, I should clarify too that I'm not trying to call him out or accuse him of anything. It's just the only time I can really take notice of how people play or strategies they might use is when I see it firsthand. And like I said, this was the first time I've played GpNinja. I think pretty much everybody in here takes a different approach to defense, so I just wasn't sure what the reasoning behind all the shifting was.

General feeling is they do the same thing in the nfl and of the offense can audible a play that looks like a run into a pass the defense can make a blitzing player drop into coverage. Completely non issue imo though that kind of play isn't worth my time or effort.

ya i dont have a problem with the audibles or moving players around into certian spots on the field that they want them in to match thrm up in man coverage. but ive never been a big fan of BV shaking his Lb around back and fourth. never have i once seen a LB in the NFL running back and fourth left and right on field multiple times before the snap like that...

I was gonna say on that one I realized he was wayyyy out on the very left and there was a big hole on the left side. You just audibled so i figured you were gonna run it too the left so I tried to move him closer to my DT then I pressed B and by then the cpu took over and your OG was going to block the outside which left it open. I didn't even plan it I was like oh crap wtf.

As far as the CB's and LOLB's go I am just making sure there close to the zone and man there covering. Sometimes when I do certain audibles I'll have a saftey or a cb covering somebody on the otherside of the field. Which if I don't move them then that's an easy TD for you.

Yeah, most of the movements I get, if they're planned. It's a cat and mouse game at the line (sometimes I audible to the same play just to make you think I'm going to something different). I just think we should be careful with moving so many guys around or shaking players back and forth...where you're not even in an actual defensive formation anymore and just kind of have guys stacked in odd groupings. I know what you're talking about with switching out of the guy right as the ball is snapped though. I've done that when trying to block a kick, and the guy will get a ridiculous jump. I don't know why EA thinks that kind of stuff should even be in the game though. Barnett moved so fast on that play. It's like he ate a turbo or something. I don't think it was even a line overload or anything...my guys just didn't have time to react.

I'm fine with it being simmed too. I have a small window around 10:30 EST that might work, but otherwise a sim is fine with me. I had a minute to play now, but I think it is already too late.

bills beat the beangals but no surprise there i expected some cheese when playing him considering his stats for the year and the past but the way he plays is horrible.

his qb was 14-24 i think he threw to his WRs twice all game

RB Fred Jackson 6 catches 84 yards not a WR
TE Fasano 4 catches 53 yards
TE Green 3 catches 122 yards
WR Johnson 1 catch for 7 yards only threw to him once
his leading rusher was his QB in which he ran with him 3 times in a row on a none designed run play each time. 4 wide WRs go deep and then he just took off. that was at the end of the 2nd quarter when he was down and he scored on that drive i wonder why. i messaged him in the game when he did that and he said it was improv and didnt plan it. im sure he didnt plan 3 QB runs when i wasnt even blitzing when he was going 4 wide. improv my ass

pulling lineman back off the line so he can get a running start instead.

cheese at its best... he has mastered the TE pop pass everyone uses on ranked matches hike the ball wait 3 seconds and pass it to the TE on a streak good job they teach u that on youtube along with RB steaks which is also is found on ranked matches.
i was going to quit but without proof of stats it really wouldnt do anything

Well it's not smart to throw to WR's were there not open. That's why I threw 3 INT's when I played N8 cause I tried to force throws. After you sent that message about me running with shotgun you got a sack. What am I suppose to do just sit in the pocket and let you sack me? I had no other choice all my options were covered. Also I have never looked up on anything on youtube but it seems you have since you know its on there. I play every game the same and I don't pull lineman off the line to get a running head start I just move them closer to the DT. There actually my linebackers so I cant just scoot them over I have to actually move them. On the plays I didn't move them you got big runs so again why wouldn't I move them.

Well u tried forcing them to TEs and RBs against me. And as for the youtube stuff i found on opsports cheese plays to look out for and linked me to youtube. and yes i look on youtube to find out what kind of cheese is out there. and if u were trying to say i look at it to try and cheese then ur completely wrong. theres not a single person that has ever complained about my style of play or even suggested that i cheese. hell even N8 has complimented me on being a guy who plays realistic and doesnt have to throw to my RBs and TEs all game to get a win.

your season stats speak very loudly. but i guess all season all u have been given is TE passing and RB passing
TE Fasano 27 catches 382 yards
RB jackson 19 catches 323 yards
WR johnson 10 catches 199 yards
TE green 9 catches 247 yards
WR smith 4 catches 40 yards
HB jones 3 catches 31 yards
FB Keller 3 catches 65 yards
WR ginn 2 catches 121 yards

sorry bro but i see trend.

Sounds somewhat similar to the things he was doing in our game. Like I've said before, it's way too late in the franchise to be retraining people on how to play. At best, we can just address these things case by case.

1. Passing to TEs and RBs...it's just this fucking game, man. Like I said in my game against Konfusion, people are gameplanning for it now. When you go into the draft using your first two picks on speedy TEs and switch your playbook to one that is TE heavy, what else do you call it? I don't know how you regulate it though ("You can only throw to your TE 3 times per game"?). It's a broken part of the game, and people are way past the point of having any shame in using it to the fullest. The best I can tell you is be glad we're almost done with this damn game...and hope they fix it in Madden 25.

2. Running with the QB. He did this against me as well...but it was because I was giving it to him and he had nowhere else to go. I was running a Quarters defense and blanketing his receivers. He started catching on that when I didn't QB Spy my DE's, he could get at least 8-10 yards...even with crap ass Ryan Fitzpatrick. You admit that you weren't blitzing. So, if you're dropping guys back in coverage, he probably is going to take off. It's what you're giving him.

3. The pulling back linemen off the line thing...I don't like. To me, that's the biggest potential offence here. And since it's come up in back to back games, I'm going to tell him right now to stop doing that. It's one thing to use the strategy pad quick links to counter what the offense is showing you...or to adjust the guy you're usering to a better position. But if you're usering several players before the snap and moving them around, it gives every appearance of trying to set up a nano blitz (which is what I've seen people in Youtube videos do). If one guys says it, it's just opinion. If another guy says it, it starts to gain credibility. If another person makes this same complaint, it's going to be a strike.
