[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I love that Nintendo is giving away the 30 Cent games away before any of the other VC games.
1) They "gave away" SMW, which wasn't part of the $.30 cent promo.

2) They sold Donkey Kong, not DK JR as part of the program.

Regardless, I still agree with your overall point.

I'm down for Kid Icarus 3D. Wasn't last time the original GB version and not the 3D update or am I thinking of something else? I wouldn't mind Donkey Kong Jr. if it was a little cheaper but think I'll likely opt for Paper Mario instead.

Mark my words, there will be a CN exclusive amiibo by this time next year
 I should write this on a sticky note and stick it on my monitor.

Just do... or I'm fucking with people like usual. Take your pick which answer you like more. ^^

Yes, a month or two ago they had Kid Icaus: Of Myths and Monsters for original gameboy as a reward. The 3D version is supposed to have improved controls over the NES version, in addition to the 3D facelift, so I'm definitely getting it. Paper Mario, too!

Yes it was the GB Kid Icarus a short while ago, but the 3D Classic NES Kid Icarus was offered back in March 2013 for only 150. Paper Mario was also offered in Feb 2013 for only 200 coins. Donkey Kong Jr was offered on the 3DS but not on Wii U. Metal Torrent was offered in 2013 and 2012 for only 150 coins.

Ahhh, finally something I actually want on club Nintendo. I've been debating how bad I wanted kid icarus, but for 200 coins it's a done deal.

I look forward to the debate on how this is remotely true.
Well it depends on the item, tbh.

I sometimes just sell the Card Cases ~$30 when they are up.

I know they are not up right now but I mean after ebay fees + shipping they are $25 .

Not really an argument. I mean its not like I have alot of points, I have only sold two so far a while back.

I would rather have money, haha. You always find someone selling the codes cheap too. I bought Mario Party 2 for $4. so its like ehhh.

Yeah I see your point...in terms of getting a physical item when CN has it in stock and ebaying it. Generally though you can usually find ~60 point codes for about a $1.

Ah, that's the difference then. I just wait until there's something I actually want (like kid icarus 3d) and use it. Just like the animal crossing pouch I got this year.

I'm truly not trying to debate it, I just foresee it happening since I'm pretty sure I've seen it happen a dozen times before in this thread.

Oh I didn't know that. Many times I get some 3DS games from the amazon warehouse and sometimes I don't like them and trade them in for other 3DS games. The codes sometimes work and sometimes they don't so its a hit or miss. Thats how I pretty much rotate through coins. Never really need to buy any.

General rule of thumb is... unless I reply, no debate happens. Since I don't have anything to say on the matter, I don't see a large debate happening (some will talk about it simply because you called attention to it).

I was already like "oh lawd" this person wants to fight hahaha.
Ha, for the best that we all let it go then. In retrospect I shouldn't have said anything. I just figured this place is like a powder keg already since we are waiting on platinum rewards to be announced and the reward store has like 3 things in stock (seriously, everyone has already wasted 80 coins on that grilling game, let's take it down).

Nah its not big deal lol

(I actually haven't boughten that game)

Picked up Paper Mario the last time it was offered, definitely well worth the 250 coins for those that are on the fence.

Personally I don't think so much as the dollar to coin ratio value on these VC / WiiWare / DSi games, more or less as an incentive to try the games out that you normally would never spend money on otherwise.  My best case in point was MaBoShi Arcade, would of never paid the $8 bucks for it, but glad I redeemed it via CN.  I still play it from time to time and was worth the coins to me in the end.

I probably already have Paper Mario but if not I might have gotten every game this month (except probably Metal Torrent). I'll probably get Kid Icarus for my son, and DK Jr. for the Wii U.

The value of the coins is subjective and even I think of them as different values in different contexts. But since they started putting up VC games I tend to think of them that way. That is, 200 coins is worth roughly $5-$7 (depending on whether they are offering NES or SNES games).

But then if you go by eBay you can see that the Kirby medals have gone for $50-$75. I forget how many coins those were but obviously the value there was much higher. So really it is pointless to argue value but I think the VC games provide a decent baseline at least.

Already have Paper Mario on my vWii inside the Wii U.

May bite on DK Jr. Depends on how bored I get.

No interest in Metal Torrent, or I would have gotten it already when it was cheaper.

Already have Kid Icarus 3D on one of my 3DS units.

I am disappointed again. At least I have no coins expiring so I can wait for the next month to be disappointed all over again.

Metal Torrent is actually fairly decent. No R-Type or Nano Assault, but not bad.

Already own Paper Mario, so I will probably skip everything in this go around. I don't know why, but I just do not like playing NES games anymore.

I picked up Kid Icarus. I love having these NES games at the ready when I'm traveling or on a break at work.

As long as I can keep about 200 coins around and there are good titles ever other month I'll be happy!

So all the wii/wii u games are actually only available in the wii mode of the wii u right?

Not a big fan of that myself just make them wii u enable .... ;-)

Yeah, I was a little annoyed to find out that available on Wii U meant 'available on Wii U via Virtual Console within Wii emulation'. That adds a bit of extra legwork everytime you want to get into the game.
