[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Went with the poster set.  The Wind Waker poster looks amazing and I love the Pikmin poster as well.  The Luigi poster also doesn't look half bad and it will remind me of 2013 since this year is the "year of Luigi".

The music CD is tempting but I don't have nearly the fond memories of MM as I do with WW.

This year's prizes aren't as nice as the statue or pin set, but nicer than the card/poster rewards from last year.

Thanks Nintendo!

Really wish I made it to be able to buy the MM OST. MM is my fav Zelda game of all time and in my top 3 games of all time wish I was able to get it. :( Guess i'm stuck with Link's Awakening DX

MM OST will go great with the OoT OST that I got about 2 years ago. Posters were tempting, but had no room for them.

Just hope that Nintendo gets the message that people wants CDs and they start making them purchasable rewards.

Pretty much everyone (regardless of how you feel about Club Nintendo) has constantly made it clear that Club Nintendo needs to offer more of anything. That much is obvious when you look at one of two things...

1) How many people bitch / moan come the end of the year, since they have coins expiring and want nothing. Go reread this thread, there are tons of posts on this subject.

2) How quickly new items sell out. Even the green carrying case thingy sold out in a few days.

Despite the high sales numbers, lack of people spending coins on other things (don't a lot of people buy games because they're better than getting a pencil case 12 months from now?) , constant complaints and repeated requests for items... Nintendo seems rather oblivious to our message and continue to do whatever they please.

I'm only interested in games period as I have no interest in game knickknacks, posters, soundtracks, cases etc.  Much less Nintendo themed ones.

Nothing negative against people that dig that stuff.  Just doesn't mesh with my home decor at all as I don't have or want a gaming exclusive room.  Nothing on the walls/shelves but photos and art.

@admiralvic

I also got one of the Kirby coins limited to 1,000. That makes 998 left in circulation.  I cherish that as a collectible more then the platinum elite rewards.

Which is a bit weird because it was just a regular reward and not a platinum elite reward. I'm not complaining though I didn't go out my way to reach platinum status and I'm a really big N64 fan and buff so naturally I'm a fan of anything related to N64.

Personally I would have rather had platinum this year over last year. I prefer an OST of MM branded with club Nintendo over a deck of playing cards branded with Nintendo trademarks.

The posters to me are nothing that exciting other then being exclusive to platinum members. Year round they still offered regular sets of posters club Nintendo exclusive as a regular reward.

Happyconsolegamer got me to love soundtracks.

Agree with this. It would be incredibly tacky to hang Nintendo posters in my house. None of the free games interest me other than the Zelda game which I beat 15 years ago and the calendar I would throw away after a year and probably never use anyway. I got the pins 2 years ago and they're sitting on a shelf in my computer room next to some mailing envelopes and not even particularly visible to people in the room. I'll put the cd next to it and it will collect dust. Eventually I'll probably sell throw things to get them out of the house. Maybe Nintendo will go bankrupt and they'll become valuable.

I'm a little bit surprised to so much talking up of the Mario hat being the best reward.  I mean, you can walk into any toy store and find one for $5... Heck, they're all over the place around Halloween.  The thing probably collects dust just like everything else everyone is complaining about.  Can you imagine a bunch of people walking around with CN Mario hats on?  That's even more kid-like than grabbing a few posters IMO.

As for why some of us want posters, there are those of us who have gaming/hangout "man caves".  The wife and I will most likely be in the market for a house within the next year, first thing I'm doing is hanging up a bunch of framed posters and putting all my various collectibles in glass cases in my own gaming setup.  I promise you, it can look classy if you do it right.

I think people think fondly of the hat because it was (I believe, I don't own one because I wasn't part of CAG yet) higher quality than the ones you mentioned and iconic of Mario. It was also a little more unique / interesting than an OST, which is a staple preorder / collectors edition item or can be bought from a number of sites and even more so than the deck of cards (who doesn't have a deck? I got 4 from gaming CE's alone!). The same can be said of the badge collection, but I always liked that prize because it was a lot more complex than a simple set of pins. You got all the different images and ways you can display it to make certain images appear. It was very well done. Finally the statue is at least easy to display and a nice collectible for fans and collectors alike.

I thought the reason for the poster popularity was how hard they were to obtain last year. You can still easily get the deck of cards (especially if you settle for the Japanese prize version), but obtaining the set of posters is a lot harder than that. Also they're fairly easy to damage, so might as well have Nintendo front that problem and obtain the OST from someone in a bubble mailer.

After Fritzl and Ariel Castro, man cave has taken on a creepy new meaning for me

Oh for sure. I definitely get why some people like them.

Just doesn't fit my interior design tastes. I like things simple and elegant, so I don't want a media room with posters and knick knacks. I go the total opposite and can't wait to move and ditch my open media racks and tv stand for ones with doors so I can keep things out of sight.

Basically think how nice a well staged house that's up for sale looks. I like my place to be simple, elegant and super well organized like that. So I just don't collect things, hang much on walls etc.

Just all down to our personal preferences and eccentricities in how we like our homes. :D Nothing wrong with one way or the other, as all that matters about a home is that it feels like home to you and is a relaxing place to spend most of your time.

I didn't hit gold or platinum because I was too much of a cheapass. Now I don't feel so bad because the prizes this year are really so-so, especially compared to the item Japan gets!

The only thing I care for are the posters and those will probably be flooding ebay once Nintendo starts shipping out the rewards. Maybe I'll pick up some off of ebay for my woman cave.

Sounds dirty. =[

That year was also the only year I missed out, and while I did see some pictures I see where you're coming from. Still seems just as useless to me, though.

That pin set was my favorite platinum reward, but people still crapped on it back then too... Even with multiple choices there's really no pleasing everyone.

Will the posters have the best resale value do you think?
In my opinion worse.

Most people only seem to like one or two of the designs, so it would be best to break the set up, but that will also cost you a bit to ship (those tubes aren't cheap). If you do happen to go the three pack route, you're going to see some people hold off because that only raises the value. Above all, you also have to keep in mind that they can easily get damaged from either you looking at them or from Nintendo, so it could result in you having someone bitch and moan about how the posters weren't absolutely perfect. With that being said, I don't see the MM OST selling for much, so it's hard to really gauge how things will go.

That's true. I mean, I wouldn't even open them and would just ship them as they came to me, I don't really do posters and there's really nothing on the list for me at all anyways, so whatever I can sell at some point in the future would be cool with me.

That year was also the only year I missed out, and while I did see some pictures I see where you're coming from. Still seems just as useless to me, though.

That pin set was my favorite platinum reward, but people still crapped on it back then too... Even with multiple choices there's really no pleasing everyone.
Definitely no way to please everyone.

Best they can do is give option. I just hope they keep offering a few games as that's all I have an interest in.

Another idea would be to make some eShop credit an option. Even if just $5 for gold and $10 for platinum, still gives users more flexibility in picking a cheap VC game or two for those of us who'll never request knickknacks, cds, posters etc.

These prizes are kind of lame. I'll probably just get the posters, frame them, and hang them in my son's room.

Interesting, didn't realize SMT IV is $50, that's kind of crazy. Might still pick it up though.
It's because it's a limited set with a guide and bunch of other stuff packed in.

Most think once that first print runs out they'll probably put out a $40 game only version. Who knows if that will be in the promo period or not.

I think I'm going to pass as I just don't think I'd like SMT much. I'd like to get Fire Emblem eventually though. So maybe I'll take the plunge if I can get a hold of an SMT code for $10 or so for someone that doesn't need it.

It's 49.99 on the eShop.

Really. That's dumb as shit. Who'd pay $50 for a digital version that can't be re-sold when the retail version can and comes with a bunch of other stuff?

Digital game pricing is really baffling sometimes.

That's why I disagree with the "digital is better and would make gaming cheaper" people. Publishers are greedy, they aren't gonna discount their games just b/c it's digital... I know Vita does but the discount is negligible. It allows more sales like Steam, but we'd never see it to that extent on consoles anyway.

Well there are some decent sales on XBLA and PSN in summer and black friday sales, nice PS+ discounts etc.

But yeah, it's no where near Steam.

But it will have to get there eventually if they really want to move toward going fully digital down the road as most people aren't going to pay the same for a digital game they can't resell to recoup costs, loan out, etc.

Went with the CD, pretty disappointed with this years rewards, but hey, its better then what ps3 and xbox rewards have, NOTHING!

Supremely disappointed with this years rewards. It's either the poster set or the soundtrack. So pissed I hit platinum last year and got those cards and the year before that when I started they had that badass statue that I missed out on! I think I barely missed on the button set. But most of my codes are free so I'm not complaining too much (got like 2000+ coins no idea what to buy. I did get a golden nunchuck a whole ago though for 900)

This is why I don't go out of my way to obtain or purchase CN codes.

I seen people buy cheap games just for the CN codes. That couldn't be any more foolish because these are the prizes you get from doing that. I bet all those people would rather have their money back vs one of these platinum elite rewards.

That's why it's only worth it if you just happen to buy that many Nintendo games. If you're going out of youre way for a promo reward you did it to yourself.

Makes me think a lot of the people complaining went out of their way.

You do get more for your points than just a yearly reward.  I haven't done it specifically to reach a prize level, but even if you feel let down by the rewards, they have some great uses for those points you get as well.  I look forward every month to see what downloadable games they have for points, I've picked up several.  There have been some other cool reward as well, like the Gold Nunchuk, etc.

I look at the yearly reward as just a small bonus prize I get if my points happen to be above a certain level.  The real value is in what I can spend the points on, particularly the downloadable virtual console games.

Yeah, I'd definitely never buy a game to try and get more CN points.

It's a free bonus and if I can score a cheap VC game I'm interested in every now and then, that's great.  Otherwise I have no problem just letting coins expire and not claiming a reward if its nothing I want.

Entering code and filling out surveys takes very little time and is a nice way to take a quick break from work since I'm at a computer hours each day anyway, well worth it to get a game free here or there.  But no way I'd ever put any effort into getting Gold/Platinum as it's usually easier to just get a game or two a year you want with the coins than hoping for something good in the year end rewards anyway.

How are you all picking stuff? The website has been down since yesterday for me. Everytime I've tried it shows the unavailable due to site maintenance page.

Yeah the site is VERY cranky the past couple days, I'm going to wait a bit for it to die down before picking mine (my son needs to pick what he wants). Club Nintendo is ALWAYS really slow, they apparently don't put much hardware behind it.

When they add 15 or so items a year (mostly just games, though a good percent of these have been rehashes), not like you need to anticipate a lot of traffic.

I've also noticed that it seems to run better in Firefox. It either takes ages or won't load up at all in Safari or IE anymore for me.

Working fine in Chrome at the moment too.

Was down a while last night, but popped up for me to grab Link's Awakening and loaded the site right up now and logged in and saw the gift options with no issues (obviously can't redeem again, so can't speak to that part of it having issues perhaps).

I got the posters.  I really don't want the Pikmin one.  If you pay for the shipping, you can have it.  It will be a little while though, have to actually get the posters from NOA first.

I am disappointed in the rewards because I joined and got platinum the year after the Mario statue. I love statues, Nintendo doesn't have CE with statues. I just want something that cool. I would trade anything for something that cool. This year I got plat 3 times. So I get a poster set a CD and a calendar. A poster set costs me on average 10$ a frame (I'm framing last years right now for $29 from walmart). The CD is cool but I'm not going to open it, if I want the full soundtrack I'll go on youtube or better yet play the game. The calendar is alright, its a couple of pieces of paper that expires in a year.

In the past, how often has Nintendo cycled the physical rewards?  I can only buy so many shoelaces, and nothing else interests me.  Is it cycled all at once or swapped out one by one?

It's cycled randomly. Some items we will see go and never return and others will return in a few weeks, where as others have been gone for months upon months.

So I ended up going with the posters, but if there's anyone out there who doesn't care about any of these rewards and has Platinum, I'd happily buy the Majora's Mask soundtrack from you.  Let me know!
