[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I've had the craziest experience with CN. On July 3, 2013, I entered a code for Kid Icarus Uprising then I entered a code for Donkey Kong Country Returns. The KIU code worked but the DKCR code just returned me to the home page (no message, confirmation, or error message). I checked my coin transaction history and saw KIU but not DKCR. Then I reentered DKCR and was given a 'this code has already been used message.' I emailed CN but was ignored. I checked my account again on July 24, 2013. Still no DKCR, but the post play surveys popped up for both KIU and DKCR. So I now have 10 points from a DKCR post play survey by no entry of registering DKCR! Time to call CN.

Got the OST even though I've never played MM. I should get around to it someday, and I'm sure it has a lovely score. The only poster I would have wanted is the Windwaker montage. Too bad N doesn't offer any exclusive DLC as an option for platinum members, like a special chracter or vehicle in Mario Kart 8 or Smash Brothers U. That would be very popular with fans and cost Nintendo almost nothing to provide.
"Here's your prize, please spend $60 before you can redeem it."

So my Mario poster set arrived damage. Quick email to Nintendo and they sent me a replacement. I love Nintendo's customer service. Now hoping my Donkey Kong posters arrive in better condition.

Well, I suppose I should have stated that more clearly. I'm happy with the physical prizes as well, but I think offering limited DLC to Gold and Platinum members would be nice. As it is, they're offering downloadable games for the 3DS and Wii as possible options, and nobody cried "Now I have to buy a 3DS just to get my reward!".

Anyway, think of the possibilities: A special Tanooki-Suit Mario DLC for Smash Bros U that only Gold/Plat members could have access to as a possible reward. There would be no advantage to play, but you'd better believe I would always wear that outfit when playing online just to show my Platinum status. How cool would that be?

Why would they? It's pretty much a given you have a 3DS or Wii or Wii U if you hit gold, since those are the only platforms that give you coins and while you could obtain this stuff through other means, it's pretty much assumed you're a Nintendo fan on some level or simply going to resell it to bother with CN in the first place.

Anyway, the problem with the DLC idea is that we might see several awesome items, but each one requires platinum. So there might be Tanooki Mario, Ghost Hunter Luigi, and so forth. It would make more sense to make a bundle, but then at that point it would require Nintendo to work out a way to redeem / give you several different DLC items (plus make them, which is more than any of those games...) and of course people would be irked they can't play as those versions of those characters.

CHECK YOUR ACCOUNT!

I got a bonus survey today, which was about Nintendo game inserts. This is what it said at the top...

We are offering this survey to a small number of randomly selected Club Nintendo members.

We ask that the survey be completed by the person in your household who most often decides which video games to buy. If this person is a child, please have an adult help them complete the survey.

The survey will take less than 10 minutes, and you will earn 10 Coins for participating. You have until July 27th to provide us your feedback.

At the risk of getting off-topic:

Why would they need to offer multiple limited skins (not that I'm against such a notion)? Even if they did, why then would it make more sense to offer them in a bundle? Just one or two suits offered only to Platinum members would be neat. I just think hardcore N fans would love to show off their Platinum status in a SB match using a limited Platinum-only skin for one character that they chose. I like your idea of a Ghost-Hunter Luigi. This could be extremely cost-effective for nintendo, as they would only have to email codes and could forgo the production of actual bonus items and the shipping costs.

As for irked fans who feel left out: so what? I love Halo, but not enough to get the limited skins for multiplayer by preordering or buying the Collector's Edition, so I do without. If someone is really bothered by another player's golden Lancer in Gears, then they ought to Pre-order next time. Exclusive DLC might even encourage people to try for Gold/Platinum every year.

I was thinking of possibly multiple costumes (as simply making 1 character have a single unique design is pretty weak. Especially as a reward for proving your loyalty), but the bundle remark came from them offering more than just a SB skin. They could also make a special Mario Kart 8 character / look / item, just like they could for a lot of games. Since we only get 1 game now, I could see us having the choice of 1 SB costume or 1 Mario Kart costume, so the idea of the bundle came into play. Also the development time to make 1 costume would probably be fairly high for something like Club Nintendo. Don't forget that a lot of pick a free game (even at platinum), which is 1 less item they need to produce.

Why would it irk people left out? Generally DLC items like that are announced ahead of time. If Nintendo offered that costume as a platinum or gold reward, then you wouldn't find out about till after the deadline. Why is this important? Well I can see people bothering with Club Nintendo / buying codes / hitting platinum / gold in bulk to score an exclusive skin or at the very least they would have the choice before Nintendo says "oh so NOW you want to be loyal? Enjoy the eBay markup..."

ProfessorMicro, your idea is bad. Club Nintendo rewards should never be exclusive DLC. They did that once IIRC, with Punch-Out!! on Wii - an exclusive fight against the trainer. It was weak compared to the alternative, a Mario hat. Physical rewards are usually better IMO.

Personally, I hate having to "jump through hoops" to qualify for otherwise unavailable in-game content.

How long do I have to redeem the Platinum rewards? I'm still deciding between the posters and soundtrack.
It says the Platinum/Gold rewards expire August 15 when I log in to the Club Nintendo site. Also, my bonus survey expires tomorrow. So, I'd check your accounts asap in case you were one of the ones that got that.

If you don't like DLC, don't chose it as your reward. Again, I'm not saying that Nintendo should do away with physical rewards at all. However, if given the chance I would have been likely to choose some limited DLC against what I felt were weak rewards this year.

I actually chose that Punch-Out DLC that year it was offered, and I'm sure plenty of other Platinum members happily chose it as well. I happen to like the idea of limited DLC for those that went the extra mile, but to each their own I suppose.

Thanks for letting us know - I never would have checked CN, so I would have missed out on the extra coins. Every amount of coins counts, and it only took me 2 minutes to finish the survey, as I never look at the stupid "game recommendations" insert - just give me the CN coins! :)

As far as exclusive CL DLC, the best thing to do would be to either make it a reward for registering the game (which would drive people to Club Nintendo) or to make them a regular reward, not a Platinum/Gold reward.

No extra survey on my account.  Personally I'd rather have a full game download than DLC as a reward.  IMO giving out DLC in the place of games is just another way to weaken/water down the rewards.

Pretty cool.

Ehh... Well, if developers must make promo-locked DLC, I suppose mere skins and such aren't the worst.

It still ends up being cut content that a large part of players won't get, though.

Down the road, players who missed out on time-sensitive promo DLC won't have the full experience.

"Too bad for them," some say. More like "too bad for everyone" as promo-locked DLC becomes more and more widespread, and more than a quarter of the comtumes/items/weapons/locations in games are locked up behind a series of hoops that you can only jump through for a limited time.

Nintendo has been good about not using promo-locked DLC much so far, and I hope it stays that way. One of the nice things people will say about old Nintendo games in the future is "I like how I have access to all of the content with just the game disc. It's too bad so much of the DLC and promo content for the 360 and PS3 isn't available anymore."

Got the survey, thanks. Guess I'll be ordering the DK posters, was going to get the Mario ones as well, but did not expect them to sell out that fast....

Literally nothing else for me to order there outside of games. Knowing my luck, the moment I spend some coins something awesome will go up. (Happened with the Kirby Medal last year and I missed it by like 15 minutes)

Has there been any indications on when Club Nintendo will start offering wii u virtual console games as coin rewards?
Seems pretty stupid for them to not give them away as it would motivate people to buy their failing console. Then again, Nintendo doesn't seem to know how to sell consoles.

If I were them, I'd only offer CN games for Wii U and 3ds.

Hey, new CN user here, with a question about the "Intend to Purchase" things. Do you only have a limited amount of time to get the bonus? If so, is there any "penalty" for selecting it but not registering the game in time?

Thanks!

There's no way in hell someone is going to buy a Wii U because Club Nintendo offered Super Mario 2 for 150 coins.

Most ITB surveys are good for a few years after you complete them. There is no penalty that I know of, and cant imagine them having one. Best to complete them all just in case :)

Once you complete the ITB survey, you have 5 years to buy the game and register it for the bonus coins. There is no penalty if you do the ITB survey and don't register the game, so its not a bad idea to fill out everyone that comes up.

Thanks for clearing this up. I was wondering why I still had surveys for New Super Mario Bros. 2 that never expire. I thought it was a glitch.

Got this poster framed up, looks great.

I can see myself framing the platinum zelda poster and luigi poster now after seeing this one up.

Is there a thread to trade codes?  I have an extra for Kirby Collection that I would like to trade.

PM me if interested.. I'll take any code I don't have.

Thanks!

Interesting to note, that was one of the platinum rewards Japan got last year for their CN. I wonder if this means we might see more of their stuff added to the US CN.

That's a pretty nice looking bag. I should probably get it, but I'll probably just continue to hoard coins until I'm forced to spend it on something I don't care for.

I love the bag (wish we got it this year as a platinum reward like Japan), but what is with the mark up on this shit? The original mushroom tote was a reasonable 250 coins and according to the specs I can find, it seems to basically match this bag exactly. Can't say I am really thrilled about prices nearly doubling.

Patiently waiting for the 3DS game case to restock since I already filled up my first one.

Pikmin tote looks nice but I'll keep on saving. I enjoyed the black super star bag I got a while back.

I just checked my coin history, and the starman tote set me back 550 coins.

Might grab the bag but will wait to see what 3DS game downloads they add once the current batch expires.

And that is relevant because? I am talking about the Mushroom tote bag, which had all the same specs as this bag, yet was 150 coins cheaper. You're talking about the Starman MESSENGER BAG, which was 550 coins. Oddly enough, that bag also seems to have most of the same specs, but it seems to be higher quality (states it can hold 10 more pounds) and used / had more production costs than those bags.
