[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

I sent their customer support a message and they assured me I was getting the two I intended to buy, they did say I had 2 yellow instead of green and also said I had called earlier to cancel, which I didn't but I'm sure they'll make it alright.
cool... wish i could have gotten one...

They canceled the 500 point one in my account and refunded the coins and are still preparing order on my zero coin one. I better not lose it.
Same with me. Ordered one but three had shown up on my account. They cancelled the 500-point order as well as a free order. That leaves me with a free red charging cradle :) Maybe this was Nintendo's way of making up for all of the trouble users were having placing their orders. Either that or Nintendo will grab the coins from our account later (probably not very likely).

Or they just outright cancel on us.

Anybody's ordet status changed already from "preparing order"?

With all the double / triple orders with zero coins used errors, hopefully nintendo will clean those up 1st so the # of cradles inventory gets updated and only the correct order quantity gets processed.

I would hate to read in the future that people getting multiples erroneously and screwing over others.

Went to work... not up yet.  Came back from work... OOS.  That's the way it goes.  Guess I'll be waiting a while for something else worthwhile.

Yeah. What can you do. I just wanted the damn cradle. Don't give a shit if it's the ugliest color. Might have to pony up the money and just buy the black one...I just wanted to finally unload my damn Nintendo coins on something.

2013 Platinum/Gold Rewards are beginning to ship. Checked this morning and it moved from the "Accepted" status to "Preparing Order". The cradle may ship with the yearly rewards.

Well, they cancelled out my duplicate order.  Pretty much expected, looks like the ones I did order are still pending.  Guess they are going through and cleaning up the mess.

For those who missed out, a Nintendo representative said these will come back in some shape or form but he cannot give out any details.

Read it somewhere trustworthy, forgot where.

THey need to because they advertised them as being available 10/31 so of course I was on at 12:01, nothing, 7am before I left for work, nothing, 10am on my 15 min break, nothing, 12-1 on lunch break, nothing. I don't even know when they finally released them but of course it was a random time of the day… Total bull shit! I'm so mad I didn't get to order one.

They might, but you're talking about a 3+ month wait for it to possibly happen again and then miss out on it forever.

Thanks! That sucks :)

Or they just outright cancel on us.
I highly doubt they cancel anyone's order for the users that were affected by this. They already went through and cancelled the duplicates. If they were going to cancel the orders it would have already been done. Mine is already listed as shipped, so it looks like they will be sending out the 0 coin orders that were left standing (Still only one per member though).

You really think we will get them free? :O

I imagine at some point Nintendo will catch it and deduct the points. It would be crazy to believe they not only won't catch, lets say 1,000 orders of 0 points (every CAG seemed to report they kept their 0 point order) and even more so given how much money they would lose on this venture. To put it simply, they would essentially trading $25,000+ dollars of merchandise (how much the black is worth x my assumed total sum) for absolutely nothing and further piss off the collective fan base.

Like I wouldn't just be pissed I didn't pounce on this deal (I am holding out for a better promo down the road), but imagine all the people who not only had no chance (given it only lasted 45 minutes) and are already annoyed finding out these lucky individuals also got them for free. Thats salt in the wound.

Isn't that what they do when coins are redeemed for anything; trade x dollars of merchandise for nothing because the coins have no monetary value?. Nintendo already got that money when a person bought the game or system.

Sure, take the absolute most literal interpretation and post it so I look like a total moron.

But no, they're different. If you have 500 coins and get the charger, then you're exchanging "imaginary" money for a physical item (like tickets for a prize at the arcade). However, if you're trading nothing (like platinum rewards) for a prize and still get to keep your coins, then they're giving you something for nothing. Especially since you can turn around and get another prize, so instead of getting 500 coins worth of value, you're getting 1,000 coins worth of value at the cost of 500.

I'd be pretty shocked if we didn't wind up getting charged for them.

HOWEVER,

There's nothing stopping you from using up your coins before the error gets corrected.  If you had 600 coins and already have the cradle on its way, you could go ahead and order a shirt.  If the cradle has already shipped and your shirt gets processed before the mixup has been corrected then there's really no way they can penalize you.  I mean, I suppose they could ban your account but would they really go through all of that trouble over something that isn't technically you're fault?  I doubt it.

This has all reminded me of how terrible CN can really be, they really need to do some serious de-bugging...  This happens nearly every time a decent award is announced, and the whole site gets locked up for a couple days whenever it's platinum/gold reward time.

Actually, I'm sure under normal accounting prodedure these coins would have "value" on Nintendo's balance sheet... negative value, because they are a liability. This would be no different than the airlines frequent flier mileage accounts. They actually were forced a few years back to update their balance sheets to reflect the liability hit they would take if everyone redeemed their miles. The only difference is that Nintendo does not have the same 1-to-1 comparison between a coin and what it will buy as the airlines do... but unless Nintendo would screw everyone and confiscate the coins without giving away anything, then they should be treated as a liability. (I imagine that's why sometimes it seems like items go up in "price". It's certainly a function of supply and demand, but it's also a way for Nintendo to get more "coins" off their books.)

My red one shipped today!  I'm super luck I randomly checked club Nintendo throughout the day yesterday and got one on order :)

I just noticed the cradle, and bummed out I missed on one. Sounds like some people were able to get them for free, but i'd gladly use 500 points for one. Hopefully there will be a restock.

Well, they could put you in the negatives. I forget what it was (I think reward zone), but I had a negative balance that I had to work back. Though, they would most likely ban you. We saw Nintendo ban a few people that "abused" parent accounts, which isn't as bad as trying to scam them out of prizes. However, I don't agree with you notion that it technically isn't your fault. While the action of getting the coins isn't on you, a person with integrity would notice they got back 500 coins and not rush to spend them in hopes of getting another item for free.

On a related note, did anyone else find it funny they took the time to make a halloween theme that would go up for a day, but can't find the time to restock items or even avoid fiascos like this?

I had thought about that as well(somewhat unrelated but I've had that happen to me on itunes before), but as ass backwards as they have everything on CN it would probably take them a year to even figure out how to do that... So, unless it was a widespread issue I don't really see them going that route. I remember the rash of bans that were being handed out earlier this year, but if you'd already be out of coins anyway or wouldn't be able to/care about hitting platinum, what would the ban really hurt? I mean, I doubt they IP ban people so setting up a new account wouldn't be hard.

What I meant by it not being your fault is, they have no real way to prove you didn't do it on purpose, so I'm not sure they'd be quite so harsh in dealing with it. I mean, I'd be surprised if something like this hadn't already happened on accident... People can be pretty obtuse.

But yeah, technically speaking, the site is a total mess. The laziness in which it's ran(what, is this the third new reward we've seen all year?) and the time it takes them to restock things is ridiculous. It makes me wonder how much longer they'll care to keep this program going in NA.

Maybe not an IP ban, but they can set a red flag on your house and block you like that. Though I don't see Nintendo doing anything. I just hope they charge people, since I will REALLY be kicking myself for missing out.

I think this is the second "actual" reward, but maybe 15th overall (if you count digital games and don't exclude dupes). Though I think they will keep US going for a while. I can't imagine they lose much money on the US branch.

Yeah, especially since there's never anything to redeem coins on.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it's around.  The cradle will be my 20th physical reward from them, so I've definitely gotten my use out of it. This year has just really soured me on the program though.

I've been a member since the start and the only things I've gotten are:

Every platinum item

The golden nunchuck

3DS XL cradle

Game and Watch Collection

2 or 3 download games

Really wish I could have gotten the Kirby coins, but I digress. Definitely shows how much I like on CN.

What can I say, I'm a lover of useless crap. lol

And yes I have a Kirby medal.

You guys are just pummeling Club Nintendo. LOL
To be fair, Nintendo hasn't really given us a reason to praise Club Nintendo either.

  • A good percent of the current offering have been there from the beginning.
  • The few exceptions are far and few between.
  • People love to defend their problems with the fact it's free, though very few people count their time towards value (please do not start this argument. Just agree to disagree)
  • The website got updated a while back, but still isn't that great from a design stand point.
  • Platinum rewards have gone down hill. Remember, we got the OoT OST for just registering OoT 3D (I believe Skyward sword was the same. I know Japan got Windwaker HD for free like this too), yet MM went on to be a platinum reward (isn't even unique to a degree, since it was a reprint)
  • Some items have lost value. Even newer things, since I vividly recall the 2DS being worth 120 coins, but is only worth 100 now.
  • Any new item tends to crash the site.
  • Despite offering nearly 50 digital games, they've constantly had titles repeat.
  • Wii U games have gotten the shaft, where as 3DS games don't. Monster Hunter / Sonic Lost World have coins on the 3DS and don't for the Wii U.
  • Due to too many coins in the wild (I guarantee there are a lot of people sitting on mountains of coins), the value of coins have dropped. For instance, the Mushroom tote bag cost 250 coins at launch, where as the Pikmin 3 tote costs 400. That is a 150 coin increase for a bag that seems to match the mushroom totes dimensions perfectly.
  • Some items get absurd values. They offered a 6x6 inch Yoshi cleaning cloth for 400 coins... If the cradle is worth $25 and costs 500 coins, then logically they're pricing this cleaning cloth at $20 dollars.
  • Nintendo remains horribly dated in some aspects. Like, most of the accessories / add ons are for the DS and Wii and while the 3DS is supported, it only really got 1 item.
I can come up with more faults, but other people already know I sort of hate Club Nintendo (even though I do support it). Also, I only bought 1 reward in my 4 - 5 years with the program.

Somebody has a little too much time on their hands.

Congrats to those who got in on the free cradles.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to snag one, but I'm sure Nintendo will restock these again some time in the future.
