[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

You should buy the version that's on the e-shop, it's been updated to allow you to play it single-player. It has it's hang-ups but I'd say it's worth playing, especially for the small asking price.

I wanna do a list!

For me it's:

Wind Waker
Link to the Past
Skyward Sword
Phantom Hourglass

I know a lot of people hate on the DS incarnations(you'll get no argument from me over Spirit Tracks), but Phantom Hourglass was actually quite amazing at moments and it definitely has some of the series' best puzzles.
I didn't know that. Thanks.

Part of me doesn't want to buy it since I missed it when it was free.

Ha, that's the only reason I have it. I finished it and while it's still one of the weaker entries, I actually enjoyed it. If it ever goes on sale or something you should pick it up.

Just wanted to say I couldn't agree with you more here. Nintendo keeps acting like they want to freshen up Zelda yet they refuse to do this. Zelda is one of the biggest franchises out there that doesn't do voice, I just think they don't want to spend the money and keep coming up with excuses.

Just doing that alone would nearly be enough to cure the staleness to me!
See, I don't want that personally and like the sort of blank slate that it creates. Especially when you have the complication that almost every Link, Zelda, and familiar character is actually an entirely different person from every other iteration just makes it all the more complicated once you find an emotional resonance with an actor.

Well, you could use the same actors for most of the characters and use bloodlines as an excuse for why they sound the same. Link is the exception there, but as pointed out before, he doesn't really talk anyway. I hate reading through pages of text in Zelda... Why? I don't have to do it in any other big games that have a focus on story.

It just feels like it's behind the times and outdated.

Speaking of, has Nintendo EVER released a first party console game that had a full voice cast? Kid Icarus Uprising is the only one I can think of.

I think the no voice acting is part of the charm of zelda

If they do it right like FFX did then that's fine but don't do it wrong.

I'm new to this Club Nintendo thing, haven't registered any games or consoles yet, so I was wondering if it's worth to do that now, considering that (at least from my understanding) the point system runs from July of the current year through June of the next.

The rewards for Gold and Platinum members are only revealed after that period has passed? We won't know what's gonna be available 'til it's already too late to come up with the necessary points/coins/whatever?

Star Fox and *shudders* Metroid: Other M
Oh yeah, forgot about Star Fox!

Lol, I didn't mention Other M because that wasn't really Nintendo.

Oh, and to answer the question above, that is correct. They don't announce awards until sometime the following week after the year resets.

You answered all your own questions perfect . You should do the coins now

Not sure if this has been posted about yet, but a heads-up... There's a "bonus survey" worth 10 coins that expires November 10th. Just logged in and saw it in my "to-do" list. Not sure if every member will get it since it's apparently "to a small number of randomly selected Club Nintendo members", but check for it.

Thank you! I had 70 coins which expired without being used this year, I don't want the same thing to happen in 2014.

So, how long do you have to select your rewards before the coins actually expire? Because mine expired in June of this year, and the rewards were only announced in July. :/

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I also have some other surveys expiring on that same day. You just reminded me to go take them. Happy to get another 10 bonus coins. Still waiting on that charging cradle to come back...  :oldman:

Oh, they took the refunded 500 coins back from the cradle snafu, I guess it's good that I didn't spend them...I probably would've bought another cradle honestly.

Thanks for the heads-up mafu, I had the survey in my To-Do list as well. I wonder how small that number of selected CN members really is...

Thanks Mafu, had the survey as well, would probably have missed it if not for your post.

I was only 10 coins from Platinum and I had that bonus survey available! Now I get to wait forever for a probably-crappy reward!

LOL. Didn't get enough sleep. I don't know how, but I read it as he was only 10 points away from platinum for the 2014 reward.
They did... but I don't see how that is a big deal. A lot of people have stacks of these coins and I know Robo helped like 30 cags hit 600 for the 2014 year.

Heck, I got 1,000+ in vouchers and 3 3DS XL's I haven't redeemed, so I can hit platinum for the next two years.

It can't be that small a number, since I think I've gotten quite a few bonus surveys and I wasn't a club nintendo member till just about a year before the Wii U dropped.  Extra 10 coins in the bank.

No you read it right, he was only 10 coins away from being Platinum for the 2013-2014 CN year. It's pretty common (at least here on CAG) to pool up your CN surveys from the previous year and hit Platinum the first day of the change over (which was July 1st).

same here but I'm about 40 away from plat after this last survey. Like MAR, I have a 5 3DSs that I haven't opened and probably won't (all LE's) except for one The bummer part is that I have about 2-3 duplicates of some codes and I'll probably need to swap with others at some point.

BTW, for those who received their XL cradles, where were they postmarked from? I'm just trying to figure out when I'll get mine in CA as I received the shipping email on Monday.

So apparently my Wii U (which I admit I bought preowned) was already registered on Club Nintendo. It was weird though, because it didn't say that when I registered it, it even said about the 160 coins coming once I linked my Club Nintendo account. Strange.

I always struggle to reach platinum every year. ;(

Thanks, I was exactly 10 points away from Platinum! I probably have enough for next years plat as well, but I didn't want to go over and waste any points if I didn't have to.

I decided to buy Metroid since I had enough sitting in my 3DS account for the longest.

That gold nunchuk is coming back. I can just feel it!:D

They finally took the coins from my account for the red xl cradle. Wonder what would have happened if I had spent them in the meantime...

Same here. I was waiting for the Wii Fit U demo to register but this work too ^^

So apparently my Wii U (which I admit I bought preowned) was already registered on Club Nintendo. It was weird though, because it didn't say that when I registered it, it even said about the 160 coins coming once I linked my Club Nintendo account. Strange.
Mine was used and I still got the coins. Mine might have been the store owner's test model though.

I bought Zelda.  I was a little unsure of how my Wii would respond to the homebrew channel I had on it as I needed to do a system update to hit the eShop, but it was fine and I already started playing a bit.  Turned my TV to 4:3 mode and it looks just dandy!
