[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Okay, I figure that was the case. I was hoping they restock them every now and again, but maybe I've been unlucky to catch them when they're available.

How many are there, not sure what I'm missing, I wish they really supported these titles but it's been pretty meh. =(
There's 6 from Nintendo (Xevious, Twinbee, Kirby, Kid Icarus, Excitebike and Urban Champ.) But they don't plan to do anymore. Too much effort not worth it financially. Which is why it's surprising Sega attempting to do what Nintendont.

Maybe if they hadn't started out with crud like Urban Champion it would have went over better. Frankly, none of the games are all that compelling except Kirby. I'd like to get Twinbee, but that's just because I'm shooter-starved.

I see that in the OP there are the new release games that you get an extra 10 bonus coins on if you fill out the survey before a certain day (i.e. Super Mario 3D World by 12/22).  Is there anyway to get these 10 bonus coins if you don't have the game and don't have a code to register?  I seem to remember hearing/reading something about that.  Thanks.

I'm not the only one confused after reading this right?

Hmm I'll try and elaborate.  I see in the OP a list of games that grant 10 bonus coins for filling out the survey on club nintendo before a certain date.  Right now, the four games are

:3ds: Mario Party: Island Tour ~ ENDS: Dec. 22th

:wiiu: Super Mario 3D World ~ ENDS: Dec. 22th
:3ds: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds ~ ENDS: Dec. 22th
:wiiu: Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games ~ ENDS: Dec. 15th

I am asking if there is anyway to fill out the survey for 10 bonus coins without owning/registering a code on club nintendo.   I thought I remembered seeing something about this with like Wii Fit U or something like that.  More clear?

Hehe, you guys crack me up.  :)

I think they actually did have it for a while that you could register as "intending to buy" a game and get 10 extra points when you did then in fact purchase and register that, but they don't do that anymore.  It was sort of a good idea, but I think Club Nintendo is sort of pissing into the ocean as far as driving actual sales.

If that's not what was meant, then yes, I am baffled by the post as well.  :)

I don't think anything like this exists anymore, as far as I know, unless maybe it does exist for Wii Fit U. Other than the "intending to buy" thing they used to have, I can't think of anything or any way.

OK, those are intend to buy surveys and to get the bonus coins from those you have to fill out the survey by the date, buy the game and then register it within a certain period. Someone said something about a 10 coin Wii Fit U survey but I had downloaded the software on day one and never got it.

Intend to buy surveys are still around but only on select games (basically first party or strong Nintendo ties). Nothing's really coming out for a bit so there aren't any around now that SMB and Zelda are out.

That's for intend to buy surveys, which you can fill out before a game is released and receive a bonus 10 coins upon registering it in the future. New release bonuses are for registering a game within the first four weeks of release, in which you'd also receive a bonus 10 coins, but you'd need to actually own the game.

EDIT: Ninja'd several times over...well isn't this embarrassing.

I thought they ended the series with Urban Champion, either way that was a ridiculous choice. There's not even a nostalgia factor to include that game in this series. Punch-Out, Duck Hunt, there are plenty of easy NES games that should have made into 3D Classics. That's just one of the many things were you just shrug your shoulders and say "cause Nintendo".

Yeah, I was probably wrong. I think maybe they started with Excitebike? I bought Xevious and thought, hmm, they couldn't have chosen a better shooter? Got Kid Icarus free, and it's neat, but not the best choice. Kirby is a great choice, but I don't know if it sold.

Your idea for Punch-Out is particularly good. There are tons upon tons. I also have to think that if Sega can get Mega Drive games working, surely someone could get Super Famicom games working. Buddha himself can't tell me that a 3D Classics Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past wouldn't sell out the ying yang.

I spent too much time trying to figure out Nintendo and fussing over what they could have done differently. In the end, as you said, "cause Nintendo". Not even science could find rhyme or reason.

Pretty sure Excitebike was the first one and believe it or not, Nintendo gave that one away for free for a while. However, I don't think they ever caught on, because the 3D was always seen as gimmicky. I rather get a cheap 2d version, than a slightly more expensive 3d version. Though, I've always hoped kirby would make it to Club Nintendo.

Yeah, I agree.  I think the 3D in Xevious is pretty neat, though!

It's funny, now that 3D is kind of on the way out, or at least de-emphasized, stuff like A Link Between Worlds is actually doing really good, useful, non-eyeball-straining, non-headache-inducing 3D.  Another boat Nintendo kind of missed.

I did get Excitebike for free, now that I recall.  I just never cared to play it.  :p

3D Classics Kid Icarus was fantastic. New backgrounds, the save system ported over from the Famicom Disk System version, and it looks great in 3D. Wish they would do a 3D Classics Startropics.

Actually, you guys are a little off about those bonus coins. Intend to Buy surveys usually disappear before a game's launch... However, if you register first-party Nintendo games within four weeks of launch, they grant yet another 10 coin bonus so as to encourage early sales.

So, for a Wii U game it's:

(Base game)50 + (Intend to buy)10 + (Early bonus)10 = 70 coins maximum.

I  wish the "Early Adopter" bonus would last a little longer.  If you buy their new releases for your kid for Christmas (Super Mario 3D World), you miss the deadline since you cannot register it until you open it even if you did jump on it right away.

I remember when I purchased my XL, that was the first game I used on points because it said "3D Classics", I figured it must be awesome. But man was I wrong...I wish I saw Twin Bee or Xevious but so far in the last six months, I used up about a 1000 points or more and the games I've downloaded were ok...I can't complain about the oldschool Metroid or Zelda game but I'm guessing that a lot of these games are recycled offers. I wish the punchout game for the WII was offered on 3ds though.

I'd love Startropics, but I think we might be the only two people who know it exists.

There are a ton of games i'd love as 3D classics, but I guess I'd be happy enough just to have them, period, and Nintendo would rather do Urban Champions than Startropics, and Sega would rather do Sonic the Hedgehog than Phantasy Star IV.

I'm in the same boat. I won't receive Zelda or Mario 3D World until Christmas, just falling outside the deadline. Sucks, but what can you do.

Oh no!! Happens to all of us from time to time, though. I bought Hometown Story day 1 for $40, FORTY, and it turned out to be a mediocre game at best. (I thought it was a 100% sure thing and wanted to support it. Depressing.)

Reminds me of when I was a kid. I couldn't afford to buy NES games, but Mom would rent them for me ($2 for a day or two or something), and it was always so sad when I'd get a stinker and that was the only game I'd have all weekend! (Usually she'd take me to get another though, hehe.) When I got a little older, I bought some SNES and PC games on whims from time to time and ended up with poopers. Glad those days are behind me. Uh, except for Hometown Story. :( I want my $40 back. So much I could have spent it on.

I wish those days were behind me, but I constantly end up screwing myself over. Y_Y

1000+ reward points here and still no sign of me finding something to use them on. I may end up getting that Mario T-shirt for fear of some of the points expiring. Whats the timing on that, by the way?

I figured Lost Levels might be a fun one to have, so I took the bait on that one.  I know Balloon fight is Wii U specific, wondering if maybe I should wait to see if there's another Wii U title I might prefer other than that one.

Hehe I'd like to hear about your missteps! I enjoy the mistakes of others, just not mine!
Well there was the time I thought it was awesome to review NeverDead... that was a blast and a half. Y_Y

2 club nintendo years. You can view the expiration date in your user profile under coin history or something like that.

From 1UP: "NeverDead is a game, and it can be completed. In my opinion, those are the two truths that cushion the space between a D- and an F. Remove those two facts, and you're left with an amateur effort that redefines the boundary between bad game and flat-out punishment."

lololol

Hey what happened to my font.

Now I don't open my games for months and screw myself over that way when it's half of what I paid. At least then I have a sealed game to sell instead of a used one I played for 20 minutes.

Hell, I'd settle for Zoda's Revenge, even though it's so short by comparison to StarTropics.

Still remember buying it at TRU, back when they had the wall of tickets, to buy games. Only thing, Startropics and ZR were both less that $10 and the store just had them thrown on the bottom shelf of the wall.

I was completely floored at how good it was, how little I paid for it and wondering why I never heard of the game before.

Same! I'm actually happy that the majority of my purchases are digital these days so I don't have to fiddle with selling things or worrying about a hoard of games taking over my life/house. Although I still buy stuff, don't play it, and it's half the price when I do finally play it...

That's a nice memory! I think I remember seeing it on discount one place or another, but I didn't know what it was or have any interest, sadly. I was too busy playing Dragon Warrior IV at that time, apparently. I can't remember when Startropics 1 and 2 came out, but Nintendo missed a golden opportunity there. They were developed by Nintendo of Japan specifically for a U.S. audience (you probably already know this). It was just too late by the time they came out, and they didn't get enough of a push. They should have been released worldwide, earlier, and with fanfare.

I'm really hoping they both end up on the 3DS VC. I will buy them again, if so (and I can't say that about most games! cons). 3DS would be the perfect platform.

Bonus coins always come at the worst times. I only need 10 coins for platinum already but have like 6games to add. BUT i want them to count towards platinum so i gotta hold off til july 1st to add them. Whatever. Streets of rage 3d is what will get me platinum since its digital anyway.

Maybe ill do the math and see if i already have 600 ready for 2014 and decide then. Haha cuz i do have link between worlds, wonderful 101, super luigi u, pokemon x, and like 5 other random ds, wii, and 3ds games waiting for july 2014 for platinum again. Havent missed a platinum yet and dont plan to any time soon.

CAG 3.0 retains original formatting, so color / font / size will be transferred to the site. Just push the eraser button to remove it.

With that being said, that sounds about right for NeverDead. Some people made jokes about how I said it felt like you were held together by scotch tape and paper clips. No joke. A strong wind could come and you would lose all your limbs and chest.

If you don't want the Zelda one, I'm interested! =D

I could accept Urban Champion as one of the 3D classics if there was a strategy involved... perhaps doing all of the original Black Label NES games.

I have no idea why Nintendo didn't do their real 3D games...especially 3D Hot Rally, which was never released in the U.S.

I had hoped they would offer something good in December, oh well. Dillon's Rolling Western is awesome from November. Seems like every other month they offer something good.
