[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Well, to be fair, the 30 cent program I think was intended as a little bonus for us early Wii U adopters. In that context, it would have sucked it they made them available for 3DS as well.
Yeah that comment was more in context of the fact that the 3DS won't get SNES/GBA/DS games in the VC. Though I'm also still bitter that I missed the 30 cent promo with the WiiU and the ambassador program with the 3DS.

Well, if anyone cares...

I got my replacement OST, which arrived perfectly via UPS. Sadly, they didn't use better packaging and I am surprised it came perfectly given the packaging was somewhat beat up.

On topic~

The free Steeldiver thing gives CN coins.

Glad to hear that. Enjoy it!

I cared, I was hoping it would turn out to be a happy ending, seeing how much difficulty the different CS reps were giving you. I think too many SD-likes were ruining it for everyone, claiming a damaged shipment just to get a freebie, that legitimate claims were getting lost in the shuffle.

I have no idea how I'd deal with issues like that, just give out free discs to all that asked and save time, or make every request send the original shipment back first, both pose problems that there is no one good solution (at least I don't think so).

The first manager basically explained it in a nutshell.

Nintendo considers the platinum rewards as "limited" items (lets ignore the fact that many of the paid prizes are probably rarer) and for that reason alone, Nintendo will not do an exchange unless you send back the "bad" one. However, since paid items are considered standard items. It seems that as long as your complaint is feasible (plastic tearing / 3DS case getting crushed seems possible, not ripped cleaning cloth or pencil case seems hard to believe), they will replace the item no questions asked.

The first guy seemed to be aware of the second policy and unaware of the first. This is probably because the first one rarely comes up (they told me that so many times I thought it was a commercial), so he just defaulted on the standard practice. Anyway, this all really boils down to Nintendo cheeping out on CN and not planning ahead for very predictable problems.

If I was Nintendo I would send any one wanting a replacement a pre-paid shipping label and get the damaged one first.

Its the only way to guarantee they aren´t being taken advantage of. Pictures can be manipulated.

Honestly, we can get into an endless discussion about how fucked up Nintendo is.

  • The endless amount of drama that could have been ended with a simple E-Mail explaining the return process. Go here, do this, wait, profit.
  • Making me pay for shipping. I don't care if it is only a few dollars, I still see it as a slap in the face.
  • Random games having coins. Like I've mentioned before, Monster Hunter 3DS does and Wii U does not. If anything, the opposite makes more sense than this.
  • Selling out with seemingly ample stock on hand. I can understand having replacements on hand to replace, but judging by how easy it's for some people to get a replacement, it certainly seems like they have more on-hand than feasibly makes sense.
  • Shipping "collectibles" like this in the cheapest methods possible.
  • Having a special Club Nintendo replacement center.
  • Shipping platinum rewards during the holiday season. If I had to guess the worst time to ship something, I would assume December 15th - Jan 2nd, which is when these rewards go out.
  • Slow restocking of popular rewards. I've worked for a company that printed and shipped promotional items and things like this could easily be accomplished in a month (though most realistically a week) if Nintendo wanted to. I mean, I understand why they do it, but keeping things like this in stock would only motivate people to use more coins during a single calendar period, instead of people having so many coins that Nintendo decided to make the Luigi's Mansion figure stupidly expensive.
  • Recycling digital games. Out of all the games Nintendo has published, there is really no reason why we should be seeing titles cycled.
  • etc
Though I think we can all agree that this could have been handled better and they should have better systems in place.

Actually that is a pretty sound solution, pre-paid labels (if they do UPS or FedEx) are only charged to the account if they are scanned in the system / used, so the CS team could issue them to the customers, and essentially call their bluff / easily handle the legitimate complaints. It wouldn't be perfect (especially if they require you to keep the useless original bubble mailer / poly bag for the return), but that sounds good to me.

Apparently from an upcoming TRU ad. Also to clarify, this is a Club Nintendo deal

Well, my decision to not register my black friday Zelda XL yet actually pays off.

Of course I just had to purchased Pokemon Y digitally already... :D

Whatever happened to Nintendo having a bundle with digital Pokemon for $20 more? Guess that must have been super limited with the launch of the 2DS. Not a bad freebie but you're kind of foolish to buy a full priced 2/3DS system these days.

Ooo, missed that this was a CN thing and just thought it was a TRU sale.

I would still prefer a selection of games like we got last year but at least it's a high quality game and not just SMB 3D Land again like EU got. Now to decide if I should sell my physical copy of X or Y.

Anyone know if this applies if I register another 3DS XL? I already registered a 3DS and 3DS XL but I have not registered my Zelda 3DS XL and I never registered my copy of DK either. Pokemon game prices tend to stay high so I can sell/trade-in my copy of Pokemon X.

To bad I registered animal crossing anyway. Guess I could get Mario again or donkey Kong. Of course I have no interest in pokemon.

This may not be the best place to ask but does anyone know whatever happened to Strell? Guy used to be on CAG all the time and I haven't seen him around in nearly a year.

Saw this in the other thread and did not realize it was through Club Nintendo. I might have to register my nephew's 2DS and finally register my copy of Donkey Kong.
Yeah it's the fine print on it and I can barely read it.

Well you should but you can always sell the code.

Ah crap I didn't even think about that.

I have my original red XL registered already so I'd be in the same boat registering my Zelda XL.

Ha, just registered my Zelda 3dsxl a couple weeks ago so I could play Zelda. I don't suppose anyone has an extra 3ds code they would be willing to trade for club Nintendo codes? None of the prizes have interested me so far. If not, I guess I could cash them in and sell the prize.

Glad I never registered my black friday XL. I'm guessing we automatically get the code if we already have the promotional games registered to our account?

Already own X. Might just sell the code if I qualify.

I think just like the 3ds xl having to be registered between a specific time period the game probably have to be registered during the same time period which would exclude games already registered probably

Last time it wasn't retro active so I wouldn't count on it.

Back on topic of the game rewards, I have to say I can't recall how many times I ran excited to a Donkey Kong arcade machine as a kid only to face total disappointment once I realized it was Donkey Kong Jr.

Yeah, pretty sure pre-registered stuff doesn't count towards these sorts of promos; the Shin Megami Tensei/Fire Emblem thing is the only exception I can think of.

I hope it's like the SMT IV + Fire Emblem promo where they gave you the promo code for already having Fire Emblem registered and buying SMT IV.

Yeah I think this is going to be like the one from last March that was targeted around the launch of Luigi's Mansion to help further entice new customers to the system. This one seems to be focused around Yoshi's Island. Would be nice if it was like the SMT one but I think that was more about not horribly screwing thousands of their most hardcore customers since SMT isn't a mainstream system seller.

For curiosities sake, what promos were there for the 3DS besides FE/SMTIV? I cant recall any on account of my burnoutism.

There was the buy an XL + Pokemon or Luigi's Mansion and get 1 of 5 games promo, but thats it. Well, besides ambassador and register Kid Icarus and have a chance of winning every KI AR card, though the first wasn't CN and the second was limited to like 3 people.

That's right, now I remember. I have a pack of those AR cards as well. Also recall the DK Original vouchers for purchasing Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, Style Savvy: Trendsetters, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Art Academy and Crossword Plus.

Urgh.  I already have Pokemon Y and have no intention of getting X.  I wished there were other games than Pokemon.  I guess I'll just save my XL code for another promotion.

Frak...registered my Silver "Dream Team" 3DSXL at the end of January to get Zelda Four Swords.  I have an unregistered Donkey Kong 3D code, so I guess I'll try for it anyway.

Sweet, I have 3 unredeemed XL's. Might buy Yoshi's Island to get Y and trade in my physical (Since I hadnt started it and only used it for starter pokemon/event trading fodder)

Hey, you guys I am confused about this new CN promo, do you just have to have a 3DS Code?

It's just not clear to me for some reason, lol.

The Post-Play survey for Steel Diver Sub Wars is hitting now,

Asine from needing to create 9 CN accounts & NNIDs (I have several 3DS units, as does my girlfriend).... I made platinum from that and Pokebank. (I hit gold on my own).

There was the buy an XL + Pokemon or Luigi's Mansion and get 1 of 5 games promo, but thats it. Well, besides ambassador and register Kid Icarus and have a chance of winning every KI AR card, though the first wasn't CN and the second was limited to like 3 people.
I remember a Zelda soundtrack I missed out on. Iirc, it was for registering the Oot remake.

Remember that TODAY is the last day to do the Professor Layton intent to buy.

Yeah, I wasn't playing to get Yoshi right away but selling the physical copy of one of the poking mans and buying Yoshi from BBY (with GCU discount) basically will make Yoshi close to free.

I don't think we'll know for sure until the officially announce the promo.
