[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here.

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Don't suppose anyone got a copy of MK8 early and went through the free game redeeming process? I'm trying to figure out if you get the download code immediately after filling out the survey or if you have to wait. Trying to figure out the timing for a trade.

The first survey IS the registration. No free game until you finish it.
I assume the question is asking how early you can enter the PIN/purchase from the eShop so that the registration survey expires after June 30. And even though the FAQs give conflicting responses, I think the expiration on PIN registrations is 7 days, and downloadable registrations is 30 days.

So I think I should be able to download it next week, and complete the survey July 1 to get the coins in the 2015 year.

You should be able to keep all of your points for as long as you want.
It is so people keep on spending money more often on the games instead of slowly building up points for something big. Most reward programs do the same thing and it is just something you need to keep track of =(.

Most programs also have far better rewards.

Why do people care so much about Platinum? Do the dollarstoreesque pin sets, trading cards, and ancient CD's really mean that much to you guys? I'd rather get my free game ASAP and play it now rather than wait a month just so I don't miss out on the latest shoelaces or hankerchief......
You also have those 50+ coins from Mario Kart 8 (possible 120+ if you do the registration survey from the free game) count as past of this year, so they will expire in June 2016 instead of 17 like they would if you waited a month. For me, I much rather wait a month to get the coins than be impatient to play a launch title, some silly mini games, a HD remake from a number of years ago or Pikmin 3.

Why do they have this dumb rule anyway? You should be able to keep all of your points for as long as you want.
It's to prevent inflation (by moving coins out of the system), clear out undesirable items, keep you entering codes and to a degree have you ultimately get nothing. While the system sucks on paper, I rather see coins expire, than see what kind of inflation Nintendo would have to do to minimize their liability for those coins.

With the Pokemon promo a new survey appeared in the To-Do list which allowed you to select which version you wanted. I suspect it will be the same for this promo. As for the amount of time it was basically instantly added to the To-Do list.

Also to those who may receive the game early. Hold off on redeeming your Club Nintendo until tomorrow some time. The promo doesn't actually start until 12am EST on the 30th. Entering it early could possibly make it so you don't get the free download survey.

I wouldn't necessarily use 2 accounts, but I know it is possible to register both a physical and digital copy on one account. I was wondering if completing both those surveys gives you 2 free games.
i´m very sure it will be only one game per account. but take a look at the faq section, there must be one around...

Unbelievably to me, I can answer 'yes'. I was about to post about my experience in case it would help other CAGs.

Best Buy sent me an email saying my order was ready to pickup. I was surprised, but went to the store and it was there waiting for me. This is the part that's a little shady. When I went to club.nintendo to put in the pin number for MK8, a popup came up asking me to select my free game. I chose one and went through the entire redemption process and received a confirmation page. Then I entered "club.nintendo.com" back into the URL field and when the page refreshed, I was presented with the same popup saying I qualified for a free game and was prompted to chose one... so I chose a different one.

I was able to repeat this process and receive a code for all of the games on offer.

I was using Chrome. I'm not sure if this glitch will last until tomorrow when the game officially launches, but I would certainly enter you PIN for MK8 as soon as possible into club.nintendo.com if you are interested.

Also - I never get this lucky, so I am bragging a little. Sorry :(

Ugh...I'm 30 coins short for Mario Kart 64.  The one time I actually want to buy a game with my coins, I'm short.  Bleh!

Sounds totally worth it if you don't have a lot if points to lose. I have over 1000, but I'd make a new account if this glitch keeps up.
There is more risk than that...

 • Codes being voided, which if you sold could destroy your reputation on CAG, eBay or wherever.
 • Accounts count get banned. Instead of getting all the games you get zero.
 • Accounts you gave the code get banned. This would also destroy your rep.

But above all, the number 1 reason why you shouldn't is that Nintendo might shut down the operation early or never offer a sweet promo like this. I would hate to see a ton of people get screwed just because some trash from SD felt the need to exploit the system.

They totally would not shut it down.

Account bannings seem more likely.

Then again who knows. Also lol if you think there isn't trash on this website.

I like that neither of us thought they might fix it. Ban people / shut down the program sure, but fixing it? Oh hell no!

Anyway, I mentioned that because it's possible, though unlikely. I recall during the LoZ OST promo they underestimated demand for the OST and changed the promo from "while supplies last" or something like that to "first week purchasers." It's entirely possible, albeit unlikely, that Nintendo might shut the program down if it gets abused. Remember, MK 8 is not an unpopular game and it could totally sell 1,000,000+ copies in a day and even if only 1% uses Club Nintendo, then thats still 10,000 users with up to 40,000 Wii U games being given out.

I know there are awful people on CAG, but SD usually takes it a step further than the average CAG (at least older ones) and even then, I meant it in a more figurative way. Not so much literally people from SD, but the attributes typically being associated with those of SD and the ones who take part of such activities is trash.

Do you have publications to confirm those statements sir?

Crap. I was gonna wait until July 1 to register Mario Kart (I've already reached platinum already) but now I'm not sure if I should.

Survey code shows up for me right after i download the game and play it for 5 minutes. I also have 3000 club nintendo points with 0 expiring [=. Picking up my game at 10 am tomorrow! Hopefully i get all 4? lol... jk ... >_>

So I don't want the free game since I already own/love each of them.  It is just the single club nintendo code?  Well that's a shame, guess I won't be getting coins for MK8.

If anyone wants to trade something for it, I'll trade!

If I buy MK64, can I use the code for both the Wii and Wii U? Or just 1 system.
Only one system. If you put it on the Wii first and later decide you want it on the Wii U you can do a system transfer of the game. Still have to play it via Wii mode since there are no N64 games currently in the Wii U eshop. In the future there might be and you can then upgrade to the Wii U version for a small fée.

If I buy MK64, can I use the code for both the Wii and Wii U? Or just 1 system.
You can only redeem it on one system and if you have both, it's probably for the best you redeem it on the Wii U. Hopefully Nintendo will finally announce that Nintendo 64 games are coming to the Wii U Virtual Console. I'm sure then to get that version, it would cost you something like $2 or so, depending on what the discounted price will be.

There is! I'll save some people some time and post the "useful" information
Thanks for helping man instead of being a snarky little wiseass telling us to pull it ourselves. This is a big help for us mobile users where it takes forever to load a page, especially one without a mobile equivalent.

Man, what the fuck is with you people? I politely post something (as I've done a number of times in the past) and yet people feel the need to still point stuff out about it in a passive-aggressive way. Then ironically, when I get angry because I literally can't make anyone happy ever without a backhanded comment, people call me out for being rude. It's a vicious cycle that ultimately only I lose, but thank you, that is the last time I plan on posting something that helps someone (unless doing so also helps me in some way).

Much love,

Vic~

Then ironically, when I get angry because I literally can't make anyone happy ever without a backhanded comment, people call me out for being rude. It's a vicious cycle that ultimately only I lose, but thank you, that is the last time I plan on posting something that helps someone (unless doing so also helps me in some way).

Much love,

Vic~
I wouldn't take what that guy posts seriously, I hear he is, erm what's the word, a troll?

I for one appreciate your helping, and have never gotten any passive aggressive/rude vibe from you, but if it has it oh well, sometimes it's warranted when people ask the same fuck ing question over and OVER without researching or reading or what have you

I have never noticed you being passive aggressive in any way. The most I have seen is you say something back to someone who is being a dick to you. You are one of the people who is always helpful and I appreciate it. Thank you Vic.

For whatever it's worth, the glitch seems to be dead.

I got the "Get a Free Game" prompt a second time after claiming my Pikmin 3 code. I couldn't resist seeing what was up (hadn't checked this thread this morning), so I clicked New Super Mario Bros. U.

I was able to get to the screen with the "Claim This Code" button, but it wouldn't let me actually claim a second code. Got that "Don't worry, your coins are safe with Wario" error message.

I was being completely sincere. I really do appreciate the help, and loading certain sites (including Nintendo.com and especially the Club Nintendo page) is a bitch on my phone. All I was trying to do was express gratitude for you posting an answer rather than linking to some FAQ that won't load properly or telling me to find it myself.

I don't know why you would think otherwise?

Eh, trying to look objectively at Nintendo is enough for a lot of people to not take me seriously so I can live with it. Did I ever tell you how a certain big name Nintendo fan site banned me because I made a non-offensive comment about fanboys being ridiculous in voting for Super Mario HD Land for a GOTY award while bashing fantastic games like Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider........ over a week before HD Land was even released!?

But apparently watching trailers and reading early reviews was enough to know what the better game was. Who needs to actually play the damn thing?

So close to getting Kirby 3d. 10 more points and I'm there. They're still giving post play points for Poke Bank? Even if you don't have Pokemon?

You don't need to add " instead of being a snarky little wiseass telling us to pull it ourselves."

Just to clarify, when I redeem the game redemption code (from Mario Kart 8) in the Wii U store, that game will appear on Club Nintendo with a survey for points as well?

Post play surveys that are set to expire after the year resets, will still give points after the reset right?

Do they count towards platinum? or is that only when you enter an actual code?

Anyone else see the Gold and Platinum rewards show up? Club Nintendo is getting hit so hard right now, but just text loaded and seemed it was mentioning something about choosing my rewards for those.
