[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

can someone explain to me how club points work. I see that I have 630 coins and that I have reached gold status. but it says that 230 coins expire on 6/30/2014. I hear people talking new rewards being put out next month so does that mean if my points expire that I won't be gold anymore? If so should I just go ahead and spend them on some VC games?
When your coins expire they are gone. Your status will remain gold even if you spend them. So the answer is spend at least the 230. The rest will be good for one more year.

You have coins, you can use them on stuff in the store. 230 of your coins will expire at the end of this month. Use them before that happens.
Thanks for the info everyone. I went ahead and bought kirby's dream land and tried to get electroplankton but it gave me an error so I'll try again later.

I'm patiently waiting for the 1st to roll around so I can redeem my Mario Kart 8 code and get the free game. I'm gold now, but I have no shot at platinum so I'm holding some codes back to register in July.

I'm glad Nintendo didn't do the total dick move and have the MK8 promo expire on June 30.

You can enter it now if you don't want to wait. Just enter the Mario Kart Pin, when the registration survey pops up click on the Club Nintendo logo in the top left to go back to the main page. Don't fill out the survey. The Mario Kart 8 Registration Survey (for 70* Coins) will appear in your to-do list with an expiration date a month from now.

If the free game promo doesn't pop up right away. Log out of your Club Nintendo account and log back in. It may take a minute, but it will prompt you. Pick your game and redeem. Download and enjoy. Make sure your Wii U is linked to your Club Nintendo account too, so you get a survey for downloading the free game too.

Easy 120 coins (Mario Kart 8 + Free Game) all ready to claim for next year.

Thanks for the tip! I was going to wait too.

If I could get some clarification that would be epic because I think I have done confused myself.

So last week I got a red 2ds pokemon x bundle. This week, a deluxe Wii U new, MK8, SM3DW and two more Mario Kart registration codes. The only thing I have done is link the Wii U to a New club nintendo ID. Everything else is still just hanging out waiting for the clarification from you wise folks.

There is nothing I want currently available with the use of coins. Do I need to hold off registering all of the above until after the 1st or, as I saw above, I can register the whole lot(and take advantage of the digital deluxe promo as well) and just wait on the surveys until after the 1st and have all the coins to spend on whatever pops up next month?

Just so people know, they must have adjusted the time period for how long you have to take the survey after you register a game. I just registered MK8 today, as I was waiting for the new club year as well, and the product registration survey has an expiration date of July 2, a week from today, so unless it was just me, you only get a week. Hopefully I can take it on July 1st and get my points for the next year, but I know Club Nintendo tends to have a lot of issues around that time.

I did this on the 22nd and my To-Do survey expires July 22nd. Possible Nintendo changed the way it works, but either way it'll get your points into the new year.

Thanks for that info. Yeah, the site can be wacky for a few days around the transition. I will definitely be waiting then. The only reason I see to put in the code early (other than wanting to play the freebie game right away - and I can wait on that) is to possibly get the early registration 10 point bonus. I know that ends right around now. But then you might not get that anyway until you fill out the survey and July would be too late. I'd rather lose the 10 points than have any chance of screwing up the timing of the points (either getting them too early or having the survey expire before I can get on the site I July).

And for those hoping for a great platinum prize, good luck. I've gotten every one and haven't been thrilled with any of them, though I suppose the Mario statue was decent in hindsight. At the time I was pretty disappointed in that as well, but especially compared to last year's garbage, that one looks pretty good now.

So learn the lessons of others here and when there's something you want, or a decent physical item, just get it so that you don't throw a bunch of coins into the virtual void or have to buy a bunch of garbage. Lots of people that have been complaining for the last three months despite there being the Luigi statue, the charging cradle, the hat pouches, and the game cases on top of the games every month. No excuse for anyone to have a pile of wasted coins (especially with Nintendo continually raising prices).
I missed all of those (sold out before I knew about them). Your point is made but not entirely relevant.

Anyway, can someone tell me, can Kirby's Adventure be played on Wii U without a Wii controller? I'd rather spend my expiring coins on that then Dreamland but not if it needs the Wii controller like Mario Party 2 does.

You won't be Gold anymore no matter what you do. CN status resets on July 1st for everybody.

Just registered MK8 to put me into platinum status for the year. I wish the prizes were better, though. The Mario hat the first year was pretty sweet. Maybe we can get a Luigi one.

anyone else able to order rewards from CN? been trying to redeem coins for a digital game and it gets stuck loading on the last page before you confirm the order...went ahead and tried it with different games and it will not load

edit: hmm nevermind, seems to just be my firefox browser...works just fine in other browsers, still doesnt in firefox.

Unlike most free things, it's actually well made. And when you already have a wife and kids, something being a "pussy repellent" is a non-factor. To each his own.
This. In fact, I got a cheap pair of denim overalls, a long sleeved red tshirt, and was the life of the last 80s party thanks to that hat.

To be fair, I didn't mean my comment in a condescending "you should be embarrassed to be a nerd!" type of way.  I've got plenty of nerd stuff in my collection anyway.  I realize I'm in the minority but I'd rather have a decent poster set over a Mario hat any day of the week.

To be fair, this whole conversation on nerding out with a Mario hat is kind of moot IMO.  Mario is one of those few gaming icons that has successfully infiltrated pop culture to be accepted (mostly), compared to something more obscure, like a Minish Cap.

Then again it would be cool if CN offered something like that though...
