[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Sorry to distract from the controller, and, uh, Dexter's Lab talk, but just wanted to post a reminder that Dragon Quest IX codes expire today, July 11th. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo removes it from the eligibility list immediately.

Sweet Zombie Jebus is Kid Icarus hard.  I'm amazed that I was able to finish that game as a kid.  I played it for about 20 minutes last night and couldn't get past the first area.  Crazy.

I've had third party controllers in general before (frankly, I love my Megaman Gamecube Controller & my epic mickey chuks). My problem isn't exactly with those that are sold in stores, ones actually sold in credible places can be pretty good. I have my eye on the Disney infinity & COD wii motes in particular.

Mostly I was referring to the third party chucks on ebay that are crappy Chinese knockoffs. Their build quality is not as good, the control sticks will often either be too stiff or get stuck in one position, they'll stop working after a short amount of use, or they won't work properly to begin with.
However, the number 1 reason I wouldn't use a third party chuck from these sellers is: I've seen multiple cases of them frying perfectly working legitimate wii motes. Unfortunately, a good buddy of mine purchased both a wii mote & nunchuk from one of these sellers. Of course the wii mote died instantly, but the nunchuk survived long enough to kill his legitimate wii mote. He plugged it in, popped in a game & suddenly everything stopped working. Wii mote's been dead ever since. Had no problems prior to that.
I see, and yeah I don't just randomly buy off of ebay either so maybe that's why I've never had much trouble. I am not opposed to buying a new 3rd party controller on ebay but only after doing the research and having at least a couple people vouch for it's quality.

And I never got why people buy crap like a golden Wiimote like it's some sort of investment. You really think it's gonna be worth anything in 10 years (assuming WiiU isn't "current gen" anymore)? Yeah you'll see them priced on Amazon for a few hundred bucks, but how many of those do you really think sell? Even if it does sell, if you want to invest your money, there are so many better, more efficient ways to do it than buy crap, let it sit for a decade, then sell it for a couple hundred bucks of profit.

I have statues, busts, LE controllers, CE of games, various collectables, ect. and not a single one is kept in the box. I have a friend who owns an old shop that sells record/comics/games/ect and he'll be the first to tell you that buying comics/toys/statues/games/ect is one of the worst ways to spend your money from an investment standpoint, and at the end of it all you will be lucky to break even.

Uh, I don't know what to tell you. I played all 3 Kid Icarus games around Xmas last year and found them all easy enough. The 3DS one was a bit trickier due to the controls but I didn't think any of them were bad.

Instead of bragging maybe you could offer tips to help people play better. If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem.

Reading this thread. I can't believe how many people are actually using the special edition WiiMote for gaming. I currently just have the Zelda and Mario remote, but going to collect the rest. However I don't care about finding a matching nunchuck since none of these are ever going to get played with. I did get the Gold CN chuck & Gold classic but those aren't being used either.
What good is a Wii Remote if you're not going to use it?

Regarding the digital deluxe promotion, I was one point short of $5 after getting Zelda. Instead of wasting my coins on Donkey Kong Jr, I decided to purchase another MK8 code from the trading forum and got me Pikmin 3 as well. That registered as $59.99 in the DD promotion, and now I have $10 earned.

Pretty awesome that this works, I can highly recommend this if you are part of the DD promotion. Plus, with all the points I am now close to platinum for next year already.

I wasn't bragging, just saying the game wasn't that bad IMO. And it's a fucking NES platformer/shooter, what tips do you want me to give? Be careful how you time your jumps and watch out for enemies?

This isn't Gamefaqs.....

Yep, it's pretty damn neat. A shame it'll only be around for another 5 months.

Kind of old news...I received $20 from downloading all 4 games. Already platinum for 2015 :)

Well, not everybody is reading this topic as religiously as you do, and with a lot of new WiiU owners due to MK8, myself included, I thought I'd bring it up. Never had heard about this promotion before I saw a thread on reddit, Nintendo does not promote it well.

Yeah I completely forgot about it. I almost never use the eshop but it seems I've built up around $50 in credit, I'm guessing from various promotions and codes I've gotten?

Anyways do I really have to register all of these in $5 increments, I mean surely there's a way to add them all together right? I think I have around $50 in codes, it's gonna be a pain in the ass if I have to do this 10 times.

Wah wah free money is Soooooo hard 2 get wah

Wah wah free money is Soooooo hard 2 get wah
Yeah yeah I'm bitching about free stuff, so ingrateful, ect.

My point is, Nintendo is a tech-based company, so why is redeeming anything from them digitally so inconvienent? I remember it being a pain in the ass to download 20 ambassador games 1 at a time, but at least you could argue that was somehow a 3DS issue. There's no reason Nintendo can't lump all of your $5 vouchers together into a single voucher.

I suppose I will just redeem one a day... not like I need them all right now anyways.

I'm still waiting to hear the tips and tricks for Kid Icarus hahaha.
I don't know, I'm all tipped out. This looks helpful though, it includes some awesome cheats like jumping and moving.

The image is broken! I'll never know how to get through Kid Icarus now!

Seriously though I really didn't think the game was that hard, I beat it pretty quickly. I dunno, maybe it's me, I just know I had a much harder time getting through games like Megaman(s), Contra, and Zelda. Zelda is practically unplayable without a guide, I don't know how in the hell I ever finished that thing but I remember despising it so much I avoided the series altogether until Minish Cap lol.

One thing I love about CAG is that you can do something "helpful" or you think is right and still get in an argument or have people call you out. Like what kind of killer tips are you really going to give for an NES game? Aim better, plan your jumps, read this easily googled guide for helpful items and one ups? In many ways I would consider that just as, if not more insulting, than simply saying "While I got no tips, I personally found them easy."

Same goes for James comment. I wouldn't say "thats old news" is necessarily an attack or something really negative, since Its been mentioned a lot on CAG. It was constantly mentioned in the Mario Kart 8 promo thread, it was mentioned in the Mario Kart 8 get all the digital games for more or less "free" threads OP, I touched on it when I referenced the thread a few pages back and thats just what I found... so it was definitely out there.

Well you might have noticed that a classic forum structure and all the unmoderated off-topic talk, in which I am now engaging as well, don't go together very well and make it very easy to miss crucial information. The only recipe against that is to bring it up again and again.

So, people, google for WiiU Digital Deluxe Promo if you bought the M&L WiiU. And the free MK8 games count as purchases at full retail price.

Because the codes are created as you earn them. Kinda like Best Buy Reward Zone. If you are set up for $5 increments, you can't tell them you just want one $10 certificate after you've earned two $5 ones. Since you like convenience so much, this is done so you don't have to walk through any additional steps when you just want to redeem a voucher.

I know there is a lot in life and Nintendo to complain about, but really, you'd have already redeemed the ten codes in the time it took you to write that response.

(Now what they should really do is just allow you to redeem via the web, without having to go to the eShop, since the accounts are connected on some level. Of course then you get into debates about whether it should be done automatically in case you want to give away a code)

Well, after reading these tips I think I'm going to go ahead and pick up Kid Icarus.  I was worried it would be hard, but apparently all I need to do is jump and shoot a little bit better.  Thanks guys.

I swear I already have this on the 3DS, but I don't see it installed.  Maybe I'm thinking of my NES copy?

Because the codes are created as you earn them. Kinda like Best Buy Reward Zone. I didn't mean to make it sound like it was some massive problem that would make me boycott Nintendo or anything, it is certainly worth the effort to redeem these codes and I am glad I have them at all. I was just trying to call out these little frustrations that you'd think wouldn't be an issue for a company today, especially one like Nintendo. It's not like I can copy/paste these codes like I would with Best Buy either, I have to manually type each one into the system. Again, not a dealbreaker by any means, I just don't understand why they can't do something about that to simplify the process? Destructoid did a piece on it way back when, I can see if I can dig it up later.

And I thought you could combine Best Buy RZ certs? The only time I ever came close to spending the $500+ needed for that was when I bought my launch WiiU but I seem to recall getting a $10 cert for that? I don't know, that was so long ago lol.

There is a 3D classics version on 3DS. I don't think it would be in the VC section of the eshop but I dunno.

Yeah, I wasn't really looking for tips or tricks either on the game, just lamenting the fact that my gaming skills seem to be degrading as the years go on.

I'll be giving it another go again this evening.

Sorry to distract from the controller, and, uh, Dexter's Lab talk, but just wanted to post a reminder that Dragon Quest IX codes expire today, July 11th. It will be interesting to see if Nintendo removes it from the eligibility list immediately.
what really? i still have the code.

Yeah and I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be part of the problem either, I always want to be part of the solution

Somewhat more on topic question:
Who has had luck redeeming CN codes from prior to 2010? I tried to redeem Rhythm Heaven a few days ago, the game registered but no points.

No offense meant, but if your problem is missing "crucial information" the actual solution would be to check the dedicated MK8 free download promotion thread. Where the DD promotion is mentioned every few posts.
At least, that is what I would do considering the thread is about all things to do with the free game download promotion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for random helpful information, and I also think it's cool that the free game counts. I'm just pointing that out.

I redeemed Twilight Princess, Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus and Endless Ocean no problem.

And you might have noticed the Club Nintendo thread is like 9 fairly active site members talking about various things. If this thread was actually on-topic, it would be like 20 pages long, mostly be a few posts every month when new games are announced and random bumps for new prizes. Furthermore, the Digital DX stuff is probably better suited for the eShop deal thread or the pointless additional Mario Kart 8 promo thread. Again, nothing against you giving the information, but thats just how things go on CAG.

Do 3D classic games allow save states? That would obviously help out a lot. I have Excite Bike as a 3D classic, but haven't checked.

The PINs for Punch Out (Wii) and Rhythm Heaven (DS) expired quite a while ago.
Did these have expiration dates on them? So far I have not heard of non-expiration date codes expiring or being removed from eligibility by Nintendo. Note (for others since I know you know) this is different than games that were never eligible for coins to begin with (like Excite Truck and Battalion Wars 2).

I noticed the Selects version of Punch-Out is still on the list.

Hmmm... I still have a Punch-Out code (non-Selects version) and it does not have an expiration. So I guess they did quietly "retire" that one without telling anyone. That does not bode well for the rest of the older (pre-2010) codes.

I would of posted this:

Just in case no one watches Toy Hunter on the travel channel: that mork doll was limited in run (it was pulled from shelves pretty quickly) & was one of the only figures made in Robin Williams likeness to this day
I could have just have easily been that toy hunter guy. I could have definitely been one of the "thrift guys", but that's ok. One day my wealth of knowledge will be tapped by someone. Before he had his own show I used to laugh at his booth at the comic conventions because he had mostly best buy penny items.

I need to do some post play surveys now. Gotta get that plat!

I believe those games were specifically mentioned in a statement from Club Nintendo about not being eligible for coins after a certain date.

I kind of want Kid Icarus because I like the fact they improved some stuff but god I hated it so much on the NES
Do you know what they improved, other than graphics? I'm still debating using coins on this, I have all the ambassador games and haven't really played them, but something about Kid Icarus calls to me.

Crap, well then I missed it. Are there any others?

Ah I see. That answers my question then. I know it wasn't on the eligible list, but I was able to register other games not on that list before (of course it was a few months ago so maybe something was changed).

Eh, I could care less about the guys in those shows. I just watch for the toy facts.
At least he's a semi decent guy in person.

Here's the Kid Icarus tip you've been waiting for:

It becomes much easier once you realize the game literally teaches you how to play it wrong. Immediately you encounter seemingly infinitely respawning enemies, which cause you to think your best bet is to try and dodge them while plowing through the level.

But if you do this, you will fail, because you need every kill you can get in order to level up.

It's not at all obvious, but there's an XP/leveling system built into the game, and you want to kill as many enemies as you encounter. You'll discover that the enemies do not infinitely respawn after all, and you want to keep killing each set, not moving on until that set has stopped respawning.

I take donations of eShop download codes and coin codes, thank you. ;-)

No shit? I have hated this game for 30 years....might have to play it and test this method.

Thanks.

Nobody has announced yet, or it'd be blown up on the various news/scene sites with random people bitching.

Give it time. The bitching will come here soon enough.

I wanna say it took 10- 14 days last year, so I'm thinking it should be any day now...  But yeah, I really thought it would hit(along with a new reward or two) today.
