[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

Have you played it before? If not I highly recommend. It's awesome. Holds up great even today.
I have played it before. I'm just not big on replaying stuff. And I'm not big into retro gaming. I just didn't want any of the physical rewards. In hindsight I should have just sold the code.

What is the expiration date for the game codes for these Club Nintendo Platinum/Gold rewards? A friend of mine who reached platinum won't have access to a computer for about 2 months.

Ugh, at first I was excited, thinking "ALL those games?!" But just one is a joke. Those Virtual Console titles are ridiculously overpriced, and the emulation is shoddy to begin with. No extra options aside from maybe one save state, and the framerate inexplicably chugs all the time for me. I know it's a freebie, but the idea of rewarding hundreds of dollars in sales with a poorly-optimized, decade-old GameBoy port is painful. /whine

(Now to decide if Game & Wario is worth it or if Nintendoland fills my quota of minigame collections.)

Ok, would the best value be Game & Wario?
Depends. Price-wise, I'd say yes, aside from Donkey Kong. But I didn't care for G&W, and I've always been a fan of the Wario Ware games. I still may get it, at least with the deluxe digital promo, I'd get another 299 points, which would put me over the mark for another $5 eshop code.

Yeah same here, I was going to buy it at some point. If I get it, they will give me another $5 and will need less than 200 points for another one.

Decision is clear. xD

Would get Dr. Luigi if I had platinum but was 100 coins short.  The gold rewards don’t interest me at all.

I'm just disappointed because I'd actually play something like Zelda II or Super Mario Bros. again on-the-go but they aren't offering the 3DS versions and I don't have a Wii U. :???:

Wow what a joke Nintendo. Very disappointed by this.

I hit Platinum, willing to sell my code for a game of your choice for Amazon GC or even the deck of cards from CN a few years back.

I'm still really torn on what to get.  Even though I've already beat DK, it seems like the best value and will get me the most play time.  Other choices are Earthbound (I've beat that 10+ times easily), or NES Remix.  Either of the Wii U titles will get me the ddp points needed for $5, and then I could pick up Links Awakening DX for my 3DS.  Someone tell me what to do.

Color me disappointed as well. I've been Platinum for the last 3 years or so and the rewards have been getting worse and worse. I know it's free but it always seems like Japan or other regions get way better stuff than us.

What scheme are you using to get platinum easily w/o spending aprox $600 (not including sales)

pawn shop games? photos of family video rental games? buying the codes on ebay/other site? buying a plethora of systems?
You can get up to 90 coins per Wii U, game, no? 10 coins for the Intend to Buy Survey, 10 coins for early registration, 60 coins for the registration of the game itself, and then 10 coins for the post-purchase survey. Someone correct me on this if necessary, as I haven't done the math for that recently.

At 90 coins per game, you only need to buy 6 retail games and a handful of eShop titles per calendar year to reach platinum

It's totally reasonable to expect the average person to buy 6 games a year, especially folks that frequent CheapAssGamer.

If you're a GCU member, an average new release will cost you $48, meaning buy 6 a year is $288 prior to tax.

My first time to Platinum and this is what I get. Thanks, Obama.

Will probably end up with DKCR even though I don't like playing action games on the 3DSXL any more since it cramps my hands. A $20 off coupon for Tropical Freeze would have been better.

I hit platinum this year & next year without getting points for the second Wii U yet.

All the Nintendo games that I get points from have been purchased new from retail stores like Best Buy/Target. I would tell you how I've had such "success" (if u can call it that) but you came out like a
condescending b!tch

Not sure why everyone is so disappointed. I was hoping for games and they actually delivered. While the selection could be slightly better (esp when looking at the MK8 promo) I will gladly get NES Remix, it's a gamr I've wanted to try but didn't want to pay for.

i'm happy, got DKCR 3D and will trade in my physical copy (unplayed) at gamestop today for $15-20, woulda been nice to get a wii u game for extra DDP points but oh well.  Getting a $30 game for basically just buying the games I woulda bought anyways is a nice little bonus to me, I was expecting absolutely nothing good so I'm happy enough.

the website was up and down a lot and it took 4-5 tries for me to get my code but it worked eventually

I am interested in Dr. Luigi if anyone wants to check out my trade list.

Where is the formal trade list? I haven't used CAG much in the last year since the format changed. It is much harder to navigate now!

Even though I've already beat DKR on the Wii, I think I'll still pick it up on the 3DS.  It's got another world of levels, and I blasted through the Wii version with my brother in a day.  This time I'll try and 100% it and will probably get more play time in it than I would have with Nes Remix or Earthbound.  I'll probably buy Earthbound for $10 so that I can get another $5 from the ddp and pick up Links Awakening DX.

You get a free game for buying things you'd already buy. What is Sony or Microsoft offering you for buying their games and consoles? Nothing. Because they both have no loyalty programs but I guess that works in their favor since there's no bitching from people like you.

You aren't buying Wii U games specifically for the Club Nintendo code come on man get a grip that's a terrible comparison. This is a FREE service that you get currency from just by buying Nintendo items as usual, if you're specifically buying Wii U games and other items for the coins then you're doing it wrong.
Microsoft does have a loyalty program.

This was my first year using Club Nintendo and also my last. Let me get this straight. All I own is a Wii and Nintendo DS from 2009. However, they had Club Nintendo vouchers in the game cases, so I decided to register them. Also, some other CAGs gave me their Club Nintendo vouchers for even more points.
For the past years, the gifts they offered were little things like posters and calenders as prizes. Nothing big, but still cool in my opinion. However this year, some genius decided to make the prizes all downloadable games for 3DS or Wii U.

There's a problems with this:

I don't own either console.

Therefore, I can't redeem my Elite Gift this year. Not just that, even if I could redeem it, I don't want a cheap virtual console game after paying loads of money for Nintendo games. (Yes, DS games were expensive in 2009.) I won't be using Club Nintendo ever again, and probably not even buy that 3DS I was planning to get if this demonstrate's Nintendo's loyalty to their customers. All we wanted was a cheap poster, and instead we get downloadable items that doesn't cost a Nintendo a cent. I will be sticking to PC gaming instead investing my time and money into Nintendo.

Whelp.... Don't have a 3DS and already own all the Wii U selections. Oh well.

EDIT: Gave it away already, no need for PM's x.x

Just PMed you about potentially trading for game codea since you can't redeem them.

Hmmm

Seeing as I am new to owning a Wii U nearly everyone of the Platinum rewards intrigue me.

I can get one of course but would gladly buy others off of people for cheap if they don't want them.

In terms of value Donkey Kong Returns is the most expensive to buy outright isnt it?

I would love to see a price listing of all of them side by side because since I would take any really I just want the most expensive haha

I can definitely see the reason people are upset though having nothing but digital rewards this time around is kind of bunk, though personally I have enough junk around right now that a digital game is preferred.

*edit*

I was thinking the DK game was the Wii U one but that is Tropical Freeze... Lame.

Yeah, If anyone cannot redeem their code, or doesn't want it - PM ME.

I am in complete agreement that this years prizes suck, but I love having a good healthy amount of games to play on my 3DS/Wii U...

I am about to download Game And Wario since this is the only game that is really worth it (besides Earthbound and DKCR3D)

DKCR3D is a beautiful game, and it's amazing that Monster Games managed to cram the game into the 3DS hardware. This isn't in the old days were Donkey Kong Land was a mere imitation of Donkey Kong Country...this is the real deal.

The only real downside is the drop to 30fps, but otherwise its really solid.

I was hoping for a physical reward selection but I'm happy with what was available. Got Game and Wario and Zelda 2 on my 2 accounts. That's also 350 more points toward getting another $5 Eshop credit.

Pretty good rewards this year, wish I would have gotten Platinum.

Oh well, I'm back Nintendo. Let's see how long it takes for me to even get a Wii-U.

Only manage to get up to Gold.  Lots of games I already have on cartridge. Ah well.  I lost my copy of Mario Land 2 years ago, looks like I have a new one now.

I'll echo the sentiments some are expressing towards the lack of a physical reward. I actually enjoy having new posters to hang up on my walls, for example, even if a lot of people don't seem to care for them. It stinks that I got into Club Nintendo the year after they did the statue (i.e. the only really good reward they ever offered).

I'm still not extremely upset, especially since I've always hit platinum without having to go out of my way (I'm already at it for this year thanks to holding off on registering my Wii U and a few games I bought for it and my 3DS, and I'll save my upcoming Smash codes for next year), but I really just don't care for most of the games offered this time around. I have an almost compulsive desire for physical copies when possible, so I'll almost certainly be picking NES Remix despite the fact that Game & Wario and DKCR are worth more (plus the former has horrible reviews, anyway). None of the gold games are really that enticing, either, especially since a lot of them are classics I already own in the original format (and I have no qualms with emulating them if I want them to look better on my HDTV).

So what would you men recommend from the digital-only offerings?

Well I got only game I was interested in, Mario and Donkey Kong Minis on the move.  I would have liked an alternative of $30 eshop credit though, so you could choose whatever you wanted.
