[customspoiler=Basic FAQ]
-Basic Info/Overview
For those that don't know Club Nintendo is Nintendo's loyalty program of sorts. When you buy a Nintendo Console/Handheld, or a Nintendo published game, you get a pin that you can enter online to earn points. These points can then be redeemed for games, accesories, and collectable items. If you earn enough points in a Club year (300 for gold and 600 for platinum, which each have their own reward), you also receive a free bonus only available to a select few. You can read the full list of eligible titles, as well as their point value, here.

-How do I get coins for digital purchases?
In order to earn coins on any digital games you purchase on Wii/WiiU/3DS/DSi, you will first need to link you Club Nintendo account to your system. Instruction for doing so can be found here.

-Can I play the Wii games on my Wii-U?
Yes, but as of now, only in Wii mode. Native Wii U support might be added later on, but will most likely require the typical $1-$1.50 fee to transfer over.

-How do I play Wii games on Wii U
You will need to enter Wii mode on your Wii U. Instructions on doing so can be found http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wiiu/en_na/features_wii_menu.jsp?menu=wii_shop&submenu=wup-wiishop-ht-redeem-code"]here[/url].

- If I don't spend coins for the entire year long period, do they carry over?
Yes, you can keep your coins past the Club Nintendo year they are redeemed in. However they only count toward gold or platinum status for the Nintendo year (june 31st-july 1st) they are redeemed in. After two years old points do expire, so make sure to spend them before then. You can check Coin balance information while, logged in, at the top of the page.

- Is there a list of previous rewards for people who accumulated a lot of coins? Similar to Square Enix's Ultimate Tier?
The extra rewards for Club Nintendo are for those that accumulate enough points to hit Gold or Platinum status (300 and 600 points, respectively). If you reach the required number of points in a year, Nintendo will automatically send you your reward, with no cost to you or your points.

- Does the list of eligible games update as the games come out or on some sort of schedule?
The list will be updated before the game comes out, do to things like Pre-Purchase bonus points. Any game you can buy, should already be on the list and able to redeem.

- When do they typically announce the prizes for Gold and Platinum?
Generally at the end of a Club Nintendo year, but don't expect it anytime soon. Usually it will take at least several months for them to ship it out.

- Is there anyway to enter multiple copies of the same game or device?
They have an option in the settings to make your account a family account, which means it can have sub-accounts that allows you to register multiple copies of games. The coins from all the sub-accounts all end up in the same main account coin collection.

- How does the site show what balance of coins you have to spend versus your total towards Gold/Platinum?
At the top right of the screen you can see the coin counter. The big number is your total coin amount, and the bar underneath is your progress to gold or platinum status. The number needed to advance is displayed directly above said bar. Redeeming your coins does not affect this counter, as it is only reset at the end of the year.

- How can I tell if a code is valid without redeeming it?
If you want to check if a code has already been registered, without registering it yourself, all you need to do is try entering the code while you are logged out. It will tell you the name of the game, as well as how many points it is worth, without activating it.[/customspoiler]

Let me know if I missed anything or if something breaks!

You've outdone yourself, Nintendo; and I mean in the worst way possible.

Color me disappointed. I don't have a 3DS anymore.
Now WTF would you go and do something like that?

I'm happy as hell with these rewards as I always either got the game or just didn't redeem. I have zero interest in gaming knickknacks, calendars, posters, soundtracks etc. Absolutely nothing wrong with that stuff, but that's just not how I decorate my home. I don't even collect games, and just sell everything after beating. So I don't have a game room or anything where I'd remotely want to display that kind of stuff.

So having several games to choose from is fantastic. Especially since I've been tempted to get DKC: Returns 3D but not wanting to pay $25-30 for it since I'm not sure I'll finish it due to the difficulty level.
You never feel the urge to replay a game?

So, I woke up this morning and saw the washi tape and plush announced for Japan. As sad as it sounds, I was like "I wouldn't mind the washi tape, since I could give some fun gifts with it" and instantly ran to CN to see what was up. To my surprise, maintenance was still going on, but there was magically like 9 pages on CAG. After seeing the prizes listed (my safari browser still won't load the site, but I saw via Chrome) and no one correcting them, I was saddened to learn Nintendo went in this direction.

Let me start by saying, Nintendo has yet again failed to meet my expectations, which is honestly quite the feat. I was expecting something I didn't like, but this flies against the nature of Club Nintendo. I don't redeem codes and put up with surveys to get a very small offering of games for free, especially when a simple comparison between the MK 8 promo and Platinum is so vast that you can't even see the other. Anyway, I'm going to do something I don't normally do and thats ask for some advice on what to do.

I already own DKCR (digitally no less), Mario and DK, Ice Climbers, Super Mario Bros, Link II, Metroid, I can easily buy Kid Icarus via coins so thats out and I am really left with Dr. Luigi / NES Remix / Earthbound or Game and Wario. Regardless of which one I choose I will hit another DXR voucher (I suppose thats a plus) and was considering Dr. Luigi and NES Remix, but I really don't know as I never expected my formerly "special" reward for hitting platinum would be so lame.

I don't see Sony and Microsoft throwing free games at you as a thank you.
Remind me what any other Gaming company like Sony or Microsoft's budgets for annual gifts are?
Can we maybe not defend Nintendo with lame defenses? I mean, these annual rewards are highly conditional and its not like Sony or M$ haven't done other such promos. Like M$ recently did the GS contest thing (if some people didn't try to get 9 codes a day it would have lasted longer) and was a free voucher that required little to no work to do. Sony is giving away a copy of Fat Princess for simply playing a few rounds of the Fat Princess F2P iOS game. Sony gave out free games to everyone via the welcome back program and outright gave people 4 games as an anniversary bonus, plus I've gotten a number of additional games from after the fact cross-buy (things like Flower and Sound Shapes) or in special cases DLC (WipEout), not to mention things like Sony rewards almost giving money away or the free $10 they sent some people, which is far more than I can say for Nintendo.

I mean, I get your point that free is free, but its not like Nintendo is giving these games out from the goodness of their heart either. These games were given to people that met very specific conditions and is a serious step down from previous years. Not only because they're games, but because I participate in Club Nintendo for unique prizes I can't buy elsewhere. If I simply wanted free games, I would sell my codes, which might not offer me the same ROI, but would offer me unlimited freedom.

When people expect them to give out free 3DSes or Wii Us, of course people will be let down, lol.
They just can't please everyone.

Put out a bunch of knickknacks and maybe one old VC game like last year, and people like me bitch.

Put out a mix of full games and VC games, and the people who like the knickknacks bitch.

I guess they could try offering a wider mix of games like this AND some knickknacks and let people choose.

But again, they really should just scrap it and give people points toward eshop credit with retail games and digital games, rather than only the digital games with the digital deluxe promotion.

Hello,
I want you to know on behalf of all of us here at Nintendo of America how much we value your participation in Club Nintendo and congratulate you on having achieved Elite Status. It demonstrates your strong support and enthusiasm for our products.

I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with this year's gifts. However, I appreciate your taking the time to share your comments with us. I will make sure that your feedback regarding the Gold and Platinum gifts is documented and shared with other departments to use as they see fit.

Again, thank you for participating in Club Nintendo-we hope you continue to do so!

--

Man, I'm really disappointed there's no physical reward. I have all these games minus G&W, in fact buying all these games is what got me to platinum status. Didn't they think that through? Anyways, I hope anyone else disappointed with what they are offering fires off an email as well. It was also my understanding that Club Nintendo was supposed to offer rewards unique to Club Nintendo members, not just games anyone can buy. Isn't that the spirit of the whole program?

The reason they're doing this is because this way, the rewards won't cost Nintendo anything. Sure they're giving away paid games for free, but this way they won't have to create actual rewards from their budget. It was a weak move by their marketing team, or whoever is behind this year's rewards.

So I wake up, turn on the computer, hear CN finally posted the yearly rewards and............................ :wall:

Well that was a waste to reach platium.  Would have been better just to reach gold for two years.  Who ever said "Last few years platium suck, this year's going to be Mario Statue or better!" please bend over so I can break off my foot.

You know what that is it, I'm done with this program.  I'm not going to go out of my way to buy extra games just to reach a level and from now on I'll just sell any coin vouchers I get for a dollar or two.  I'll make out way better that way.

Im a new 3ds player and only got gold this year, Im interested in the 4 3ds games of the platinum, anyone not wanting them? or wanting to sell the code, Idk. xD

They did and I strongly believe it was planned to be that way. Too many things happen for them to simply be a coincidence, such as the most of the Wii U digital games being part of the $.30 program, digital games repeat themselves, digital elite rewards are mostly previously CN rewards and heck, half of the gold offerings were ambassador games! I wouldn't be shocked if Nintendo outright planned their freebies around the number of people redeemed them (good in theory, bad in practice) and conceptual free spaces (like they could offer 11 3DS games, 10 could be ambassador games and they look great for offering 11 even if an ambassador could only select 1).

Anyway, like I mentioned before, this does go against the spirit of the program and I will be calling to complain. Before anyone gets on my case about going that far, I have to complain about my copy of Pokemon Scramble U (from like a year ago) not counting for DDP and getting that fixed so I can get whatever game I want and score the $5 voucher.

If you're buying games JUST to get Club Nintendo coins, boy howdy are you doing it wrong.

So can anybody tell me what sizes the WiiU downloads are? I want to gauge if I can fit one or two on my sons 32gb WiiU after I already have all four MK8 promo titles on there.

I would like to get "NES Remix" and "Game and Wario" on there plus the 4 MK* promo titles.

Man, would be nice if the Club Nintendo site ever loaded. Actually really happy Metroid is available, almost bought that the other day with actual money! lol

Gotta say I'm on the bummed out bandwagon.  Was looking fwd to a fun, tangible, collectible.  I do not currently own a Wii U or a 3DS, woo hoo???  I bought a few points to bump up to elite, super glad I did that. :(

Just a heads up too, I'll be getting one or the other so I'll be using the codes.  :)

Well poop, nothing exciting.  Ah well, free donkey kong country it is then.

Anyone else having problems with the site?  I guess it's just getting overloaded, but it keeps timing out when I try to get the dk code

Very disappointing. Even for someone who earned Platinum by registering a bunch of old stuff and two new systems. I was hoping for something tangible, something I could put in a frame like a poster and give it to my kids. I showed them G&W, and they were completely not interested. I wanted DKR, but on cart. Went with it anyway.

I'm going to give you the benefit of doubt and assume that you're at work and don't want to risk loading other gaming sites.

But man, this took me all of 10 seconds:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/745184-nes-remix/68130984

Geez, listen to you people. "I can't use these games because I don't own a Wii U or 3DS!" Well, GET one! Your codes may have come from 2009, but that was five years ago. The Wii U really isn't that hard to find for a reasonable price... mine cost $150, and that was seven months ago.

Personally I'm really impressed with the games offered this year. I wanted games- not useless house clutter- and having Earthbound offered to me on a silver platter works beautifully for me. I was going to buy it anyway... now I get it for free. What's not to like?

I just emailed them now too.. I listed some of the complaints we are all talking about here.. and pointed them to gamespot.com 's artilce that they are getting bad press about this. I suggest you all do the same if you are displeased.

what I sent:

"Extremely disappointed at this year's club nintendo platinum rewards. There were absolutely no physical rewards this year. There are many articles breaking on the web about how upset club nintendo members are about this. here is one: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/club-nintendo-rewards-offer-free-games-but-no-phys/1100-6421161/

the whole spirit of Club Nintendo rewards was that you could get items that could not be acquired any other way. All that was offered were games ANYONE could buy, at any point. I already owned all the games up for offering so that I could make enough coins to make it to Platinum this year. I will keep this in mind in the future, as I probably will no longer be buying as many games as I used to.

Very disappointed nintendo. And may other fans are too."

Color me disappointed as well. I've been Platinum for the last 3 years or so and the rewards have been getting worse and worse. I know it's free but it always seems like Japan or other regions get way better stuff than us.
Japan ALWAYS gets cooler stuff. It's like a law or sonething.

I'm ambivalent towards the rewards. On the one hand, physical goods just take up space and have generally been junk for the last few years. So in that regard, I appreciate the games. On the other hand, the platinum choices are pretty meh frankly. I grabbed DKCR, since it was on my wish list, but I'm not even sure I really want it.

The entitlement is just oozing from this thread.

I'll likely get DKCR3D as it is the best bang for your buck. I'm more interested in Earthbound and NES Remix but I can see those going on sale fairly soon.

The more I think about it, the more dis-heartening these "rewards" are. If you can only select downloadable games which you can also get for purchase, then this is nothing more than a rebate program. (And I don't want to know how worthless the points really are by doing the calculations!) The physical items were much better because at least they felt special.

I think you might need to double check the meaning of 'entitlement'. Most of us are stating that the rewards are bad this year compared to the other years. We're not saying we're owed good rewards. It would be nice, yes but we(or at least, myself) are not owed it. Will I participate in future Club Nintendo rewards? Probably not.

It's funny how defensive console gamers get at the sight of someone badmouthing their respective system.

Can we not have this thread not devolve into another "is it free" debate? Club Nintendo coins are free with purchase, the end. Some people consider them free, other people don't and a small group actually buys certain games for Club Nintendo points (like I bought Yoshi during the $.30 program for 20 coins). In the end, it's a difference in perception and can lead down a long and winding road of semantics that ultimately leads to neither side conceding that the other is right.

I'm not complaining much about the rewards.  Honestly, I've had some of the physical stuff and outside of the Mario Hat, none of them have really been a big deal for me.

I actually want NES remix, DK Country 3DS, and Dr. Luigi, so I'm going to fight with myself until I ultimately figure out which one I want.

This is my first year taking part in Club Nintendo stuff.  I got a 3DS in the Spring and I'm pretty happy with these rewards.  Trying to figure out if I want to grab DKC Returns or Metroid.

DKCR costs like 4 - 5x more than Metroid, so you might as well get that. Plus I'm 90% sure Metroid has been offered as a standard reward in the past, so you can easily get that for like 200 coins in the future.

I'll be able to play DKR shortly before the 2015 rewards are announced at the rate it is downloading.
I feel the same way lol

I'm glad that I was able to trade in this game for a good value last year & I love the fact that I am downloading it for free.

P.s. I like my Mario themed deck of cards & my 2013 calendar, but they won't keep my kid entertained like DKCR3D will.
